Soaps - Suspension of reality

A thread for those moments in soaps that stretch the boundaries of reality :p

Scarlett. 29-12-2010 01:33 PM

Xmas TV was absolutely dire this year and Eastenders was awful. So many inconsistencies and borign moments.

* Ronnie and Roxy moping around about Archie again seemed very repetative and built up to nothing. Why weren't they concerned about the fact their mother had recently been pushed down the stairs? Where was Glenda anyway?

* Ryan handing over Lily so easily within the last 10 minutes was rushed and unbelievable. Stacey just admitted she didn't really love him so didn't want him going with her or their baby? Bitch!

* Max wanting to jet off and flee with Stacey? Ok, he was gonna do that a few years ago amidst the height of their affair but then Tanya had Oscar and Bradley died - would he really leave them all now? Also rushed and out of character. Plus it made the Max/Vanessa 'romance' seem even more pointless/unnecessary.

* Why were Ian and Jane hardly featured and shown drinking merrilly in the pub? It's their first Xmas without Lucy or Peter! Peter only left the day before but he seemed compeltely forgotten about!

* Where was Denise? Similarly her first Xmas without any of her kids and her first Xmas since the Lucas reveal. No reflection on it at all - instead we had Kim and Pattrick drinking away withotu a care in the world.

I'm not impressed with Bryan Kirkwood's hold on EE at all. I thought I'd wait for the Xmas ep and try to focus on the positives but was completely underwhelmed. Ofcourse Stacey had to flee right away so her rushed exit was plausible but in the long run so many characters are having weak spur of the moment exits. Peggy upped and left the day after the fire, Adam when Libby found out he was propositioning Lucy, Peter when he didn't even push Glenda, and now Jean!
*Breathes* Rant over

Barbie 29-12-2010 02:25 PM

Bryan Kirkwood isn't very good at this. above post says it all. Peter Beale? surely Ian and Jane noticed on christmas day when he didn't come down to open presents.

He introduced Vanessa and now seems to have made her relationship with max irrelevant and where was jodie thoughout all this?

He's exits have been rubbish. Staceys was ok i thought although it wasnt feasible it was fitting. Peggy's was the worst exit ever. Pub blew up, ok im off. Libby and Chelsea, Libby tells her mum she is never leaving her again, then in the next episode she's off to spain with Chelsea!

What is going on!?

Mac Hiavellian 29-12-2010 03:09 PM

You know I'd actually forgotten how awful Libby and Chelsea's was thus I only mentioned Adam's. I don't hold much hope for the new family based on how he's already handled the Golds. The sooner Kirkwood leaves, the better IMO

Hollyoaks:

Fire starting in Il Gnosh, and the camera zooms upstairs showing Amy Barnes asleep on the couch while the room fills with smoke.

thought it was done great

Yes Yes!

Don't forget Peggy watched her son on heroin and thought it best she left him on his own. When only a few hours before she was adamant he was going with her.

Peggy spent most of her predictable life talking about how important family is and when her family needed her the most, she just walks away all because she lost 'her' pub!!

Yes, that too.

They made it look really easy to come off heroin.

Yeah but she got the flight on Christmas day, it wasnt prebooked xD Not to mention she took Lily..who most likely doesnt have a passport xD

Not just that she got a flight. But had hardly any money (Max's notes would run out quickly enough), clothes, food for the baby. No place to stay and she got straight on a flight within 10 minutes. And wouldn't the police be able to track her down. Surely they'd be able to find out she'd been to that airport and gone wherever it was. Can't see her getting that far with a baby in tow.

It was the fact that she decided somewhere to go, got her tickets, went through security, boarded the flight & was flying over London, all in the time it took Max to drive home, when it only took him a very short time to drive there in the first place as London City Airport isn't that far from where Walford is meant to be...

I would like to add, after tonights EastEnders, the terrible effects used to make it look like Ronnie & Hefter were on the tube... Almost as bad as Corrie's CGI tram! :joker:

Also the shot we saw of her on the plane, she was looking down at London, I didn't think there was a flight path over London for security purposes.

Tanya and Lauren blaming Max for everything, yes he cheated on Tanya with Stacey and admitted to Stacey he's still in love for her but in reality he saw her as the only link to Bradley he has left, he's made mistakes but at least he hasn't tried to bury someone alive or run their own dad down:rolleyes:.

bbfan1991 30-12-2010 11:34 PM

Pat calling Stacey '' a tart'' when she's been round the block more times than Stacey has had hot dinners:bored:.

Mandy suddenly being turned evil in Hollyoaks:(, legendary character on the verge being ruined for good...

Janine didn't care about Stacey killing Archie, all she wanted was Stacey out of the way so she had Ryan to herself. Janine could have been charged with murder/manslaughter for the death of Barry.

Laura's death was an accident but it's been forgotten by the EE writers that Pat tried to frame her for that and of course Danielle would have been alive if she had looked when crossing the road and not staring at the car:rolleyes:.

Vicky. 30-12-2010 11:58 PM

Corrie - Sally being encouraged/allowed to stay (or even be let into) in a burning building that could have collapsed at any minute without so much as a hard hat on...

I don't think that is a suspension of reality that they blame Max! And they only did those things to him after he broke the family apart & then carried on being an absolute asshole! Shame he didn't actually die...

She was given a hard hat, but held it rather than put it on... (I'm not sure if the reason it wasn't put on was because Sally wears a wig) The fireman (Barnesy from Hollyoaks) did hold something over her head though...

They ain't exactly saints themselves and Tanya should count her lucky stars the truth about her attempt at burying someone alive didn't come out, she must have been sick in the head:shocked:.

Tanya and Max were going round in circles, they work better without one another.

InOne 31-12-2010 03:21 PM

How in Hollyoaks the oddest pairs will suddenly be best friends and act they've know eachother for year. Also the deep emotional bonds that are turned on and off at whim. Oh also all the **** they go through, and the next day they're in the pub or something, Hollyoaks has always been bad with peoples reactions to death
