My street has only had 2 reports in December, both for anti-social behaviour (weren't me I swear), but city centre of Sheffield has had 1050 crime reports.

281 in the area, 1 on my street.

wow that'll stir up fear and paranoia.

expect a lot of movement in the property market.

But on the other hand, it's great for people wanting to move to a new area. In most cases there is a blatant divide between the ****holes and the nicer areas.

yes but then the areas with bad stats will become depressed and deserted. Plus stats do not tell the whole story.

If one burglar goes on a spree then a street could have 10 burglaries in one month. But the stats don't show its just the one thief. People see 10 burglaries in the stats and think there's loads of burglars in the area. Plus some streets have denser populations...etc etc.

I just think these stats could mislead people about the real dangers.

It wont be, did this "Welcome to your local crime and policing website for England and Wales." not give you a clue?

Only had 1 in our village in December; "other crime" apparently, not sure what tha could have been

If you hold your mouse over the number of crimes it gives you what sort of crimes are included in the category - "criminal damage, shoplifting and drugs offences" for other crime

Oh right yeah I see that now, it was probably for drug offences then I think :laugh:

-50 anti social behaviour thingies

it works on postcode areas hence Glover St in Preston looks, on street view, a nice street but is the worst in the UK. The street has no crime but it is the representative street for a postcode that takes in all of Preston and as such looks really bad.

take the whole thing with a pinch of salt

I typed in the postcode for 10 Downing Street, SW1A 2AA. There are 4414 crimes recorded. Those Camerons are bloody rowdy.

447 in the area, 6 on my street...
