The Book Group [Starting up again]

I had an idea and I believe somebody else mentioned it also, that we could start our own little book group.

The idea is that 6 or 7 of us get to choose a book one at a time, once a week, that we all read and discuss on here?

Don't know if this would work, but could be fun?

In the group:

Benjamin
Mokka
Eoin
Jessica
Tom
Natalie
GypsyGoth

GypsyGoth 18-02-2011 12:11 AM

Do we get to burn books? :amazed:

Not literally ;). We can discuss/disect them and share our opinions on the book chosen by the person that particular week. :)

It'd be cool to get 7 very different members who all read very different things and discuss a weird and wide variety of stuff, be it Mills and Boon *shudders* or something more challenging to read.

GypsyGoth 18-02-2011 12:20 AM

Hmm... it depends on the book I guess.

Well we'd all get to choose one book at some point that we all have to read and discuss, that way we all get to vary our reading and extend it and get our choice of what the group reads.

Maybe yes.

Lee. 18-02-2011 12:49 AM

*shudders along with ben at Mills and Boon*

I 'll be in the book group.. I'll read anthing. (apart from Millsand Boon)

Benjamin 18-02-2011 12:56 AM

*hopes whoever joins the book group doesn't pick Mills and Boon*

Cool. Obviously we only have a week to read the book, so we can't choose anything massive like 'War and Peace'.

Hopefully we'll get 6 or 7 of us interested in this. :)

Lee. 18-02-2011 01:01 AM

Actually, I've just been thinking.. I'm all like "oh I'll read anything". That's actually bull****! I'll read anything that interests me by page 1.. if I'm bored or disinterested by then, then it's over!
I like autobiographies, historical fiction and crime/thrillers. I don't mind the odd trashy novel.. but make me read arty farty **** and Ima going to cut you.. (missingyou Scott) :D

Niamh. 18-02-2011 09:34 AM

I'd be interested but I've only just started a new book now, unless you all want to start reading that lol

Jessica. 18-02-2011 09:36 AM

I'll play but I don't want to pick one incase ya'll think it's awful! D:

Niamh. 18-02-2011 09:46 AM

Read my one then Room, you'd like it Jess it Fritzlish:joker:

Hmm might be interested but I dont know if I want to be buying a new book every week, and some times I wont have enough time in a week to read the whole thing

I hate borrowing books though

Callum 19-02-2011 01:41 PM

I'm up for it, I love reading.

Stu 19-02-2011 01:42 PM

Can't we all just read Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy over and over?

Anyway this is a nice idea but I simply can't handle reading other peoples choices. I'm not someone who will read through any old book just to discuss it with some strangers.

maybe it would broaden your horizons Stu, you never know.

Stu 20-02-2011 11:09 AM

I reckon I'll take my chances with this one. Seems a calculated risk.

Novo 20-02-2011 11:12 AM

Same as Stu, you would probably get TheBeast picking Katie Price's Autobiography..

**** that.

Kerry 02-03-2011 02:40 AM

I'll take part in the sense that if I spot a book I may like I'll read and discuss it (if it's available to me at the time) but I couldn't guarantee I'd read everything nor nominate a book

Shaun 02-03-2011 03:26 AM

I would if I didn't have a huuuuge library debt :laugh2:

Benjamin 02-03-2011 08:22 AM

Ok, well we have a few of us for this. May as well attempt to give this a go.

I'll go with Lee (happyland) to start us off for suggesting a book we read.

Niamh. 02-03-2011 09:23 AM

How long do we have to read the book Ben? I'm away for the weekend and already have a booked lined up

Say, 2 weeks? Is that long enough? Obviously we have other engagements like work etc. :)

Don't be silly! No one can know if a book will good or bad till they read it

Lee. 02-03-2011 09:57 AM

Right.. I'd be as well just choosing one that I've bought recently.

Harlan Coben.. Play dead.

Niamh. 02-03-2011 10:15 AM

excellent *gets on to amazon*

Niamh. 02-03-2011 10:28 AM

They predict delivery between the 9-18th, if it's the 18th you'll all be finished already:bawling:

I'm still in the middle of another book Niamh, so I'll finish it first (mind you, it's utter crap!) oh plus I'm away for 4 days or so later on in the month so it'll give me a good chance to read it then. :)
