Fast Car - Tracy Chapman [#4 in chart!]

I'm a sucker for amazing classic songs getting back into the chart, but this being back at #3 is fantastic. Anyone know the reason why this has climbed back in the chart 23 years after it went to #5?

Locke. 19-04-2011 02:11 AM

Google News says it was performed on the crap X Factor spin off, BGT

Benjamin 19-04-2011 02:13 AM

Oh, well that show is crap, but glad this will be back in the charts. Would be amazing if it entered higher than its original peak all those years ago. :)

Jessica. 19-04-2011 02:41 AM

choon

Shaun 19-04-2011 06:31 AM

amazing song <3

Niamh. 19-04-2011 09:57 AM

Yeah, it's brilliant and most likely down to the fact that the guy from BGT sang it at the weekend

Jordan. 19-04-2011 10:07 AM

This was so overrated on BGT. :laugh2:

Anyway its good its doing well just too bad its come around because of a **** cause.

Yeah definitely agree about the Subo thing. Its hilarious they're been compared, he no where near had the same affect she did.

He was just a pretty decent singer who looked a bit underdressed.

Vicky. 19-04-2011 10:20 AM

Love this song :)

Shaun 19-04-2011 10:23 AM

I'd bet my life it was a set up as well, I thought the comments from Amanda and Michael were a bit snotty as well but probably rehearsed

Lee. 19-04-2011 10:32 AM

Strange.. I was just talking last night about what a great album that is!

Josy 19-04-2011 11:44 AM

joeysteele 19-04-2011 02:06 PM

The amount of comments I have seen elsewhere that say this dude was better than Tracy Chapman. I want to find these people and take away their 'ability' to listen to music.

Too right! Me and my mum used to sing this song out really loud when she was driving up to Newcastle every other weekend... it always brings back memories.

Smithy 19-04-2011 07:18 PM

-prefers Chris Daughtry & Kelly Clarkson's version-

Benjamin 20-04-2011 03:09 PM

Nice one, she is #4 in the midweeks, a place higher than this song originally went to back in 1988.

Benjamin 25-04-2011 12:46 PM

Yay, she went to #4 in the chart yetserday! Beating her original peak position all those years ago. Amazing!

Doogle 25-04-2011 01:06 PM

Oh, this song brings back memories of when I was younger, I loved this whole album.

Patrick 25-04-2011 01:11 PM

I know right. They're only buying it cos some guy did a mediocre cover of it on an overrated talent show (which admittedly I do watch  )

I wish more people had actually just know about her beforehand. But I've noticed this song has re-entered the chart several years since downloads came around.

I despise BGT, but I'm happy to see an amazing song has come back to people's attention, even if for the wrong reasons.

The amazing thing is, songs never ususally place this high because of talent shows, they usually stall outside the Top 20 (there wasn't even a campaign for this song).

Goes to show how incredible this song is.

LOL That must of been why I thought it was released 3 Years ago, it was played alot on the radio that year for some reason.
It's one of those songs you can't get tired of

iRyan 25-04-2011 05:53 PM

I can't believe this is sung by a black woman. It sounds like a white guy.

Doogle 25-04-2011 05:54 PM

I always used to think it was a man.
