Catfish

Quote:

When New York photographer Nev Schulman receives a painting based on one of his photographs from Abby, an eight-year-old child prodigy in Michigan, they become Facebook friends, and Nev develops online relationships with Abby's family, in particular with her attractive elder half-sister Megan.

But is everything as it seems? Nev travels to Michigan to find out.

A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.

True Stories commissions and showcases the best international feature documentaries.
This was brilliant. A film/real life documentory. An eyeopener. Especially with us all online.......

If you can catch it, do. Sadly not available on C4 OD right now

Smithy 03-05-2011 10:59 PM

Spoiler:

Well, bascially Nev was duped into thinking he was chatting to some young lass who was painting his pictures. Then he got talking to her older sister. Trouble is he spotted a few slip ups. As they'd already exchanged details he and his brother and mate travelled to see what was what. Long story short it was all bollocks and it was some woman pretending to be about 15 different people.

Theres more to it, obviously, but thats a general gist

It is good.

OMG!

I told everyone to watch this today in class because it looked epic, I told my nan to watch it aswell, I was so excited to see this from last week when I seen the advert.

And guess what?
I forgot to watch it. :bored:

Will it be on 4OD or something? :(

Ninastar 03-05-2011 11:05 PM

aww, the advert made it seem like he found some kind of monster mutant thing

Kerry 03-05-2011 11:07 PM

Oh and -

Spoiler:

the older daughter he had started to fall for didn't exist (it was the mother) and the paintings were also painted by her, not the young girl Abbey. The mother was the batty woman

Depends on your view I guess. I'd say freaky

Jords 04-05-2011 08:20 AM

Sounded great wish I had seen it!

Tom4784 04-05-2011 12:57 PM

It was very good, I think I would have just defriended them all as soon as the slip ups started I think.

Spoiler:

I felt quite sorry for the woman in the end, she's got a lot of issues and unresolved anger I think.

Niamh. 04-05-2011 01:02 PM

I wish I'd watched it now, I turned it on for 5 minutes and it looked crap so I switched over :/

Tom4784 04-05-2011 01:23 PM

They'll probably end up repeating it sooner or later.

Chilltown 07-05-2011 11:15 PM

Doesn't change the fact it's a good movie.

Deirdre 08-05-2011 06:01 PM

Brilliant movie I thought. Think you kinda have to watch it spoiler free though, that way the reveal is more shocking.

Ramsay 08-05-2011 06:17 PM

The thing is though, wasn't the guy kinda creepy too? I mean, turning up to catch her out like thats pretty stalker-ish

InOne 11-05-2011 04:56 PM

The guy who did that Supersize me accused it of being fake O.o. Thinking back I'm not sure, it did seem sort of farfetched in places. But the story seemed to override that, hmmmmmm

Quote:

In an interview Ariel Schulman related that some viewers believe Catfish to be a fake documentary, or a hoax. Morgan Spurlock, director and subject of the documentary Super Size Me, walked up to the producers of the film during one of its initial screenings and told them "it was the best fake documentary he had ever seen." Comedian Zach Galifianakis also has stated that he does not believe the events in the film to be true.[7]

The Schulman brothers and Joost stand behind their original statements: the film is "100% true"[7] and tells the story exactly as it happened. They also chalk up the perfect timing of every narrative element in the movie to just coincidence and sheer luck. Ariel Schulman has stated that

"It felt [too perfect] to us also, as we were making it. We're very lucky. We look back at our experience and everything leads to [the moment we discovered things were not what they seemed]. As filmmakers we were ready; we felt like we spent our lives preparing to be ready, and it just happened to be me who shares the office with my brother and my producing partner

Ramsay 11-05-2011 05:02 PM

i cant stop listening to that song from the movie..downhill ..its so good

and i found it funny when she linked truman sleeps to him even before he played it i knew it was from the truman show movie it was hilarious ha

InOne 11-05-2011 05:07 PM

That was a good read. I'm starting to doubt it's real more and more now, especially with the reaction bit that it mentioned, and how she didn't freak out or anything

Knew the song from OTH when i first heard it on the movie, great song.

Chilltown 11-05-2011 05:23 PM

My Theory:

The film is true however the 'live' filming didn't really begin until the 'fishy' bits started to happen, like realizing that that wasn't her singing, so they filmed it from X point onward and then went back and filmed the beginning by acting it out according to the events that happened.

InOne 11-05-2011 05:27 PM

I also wondered with the disabled kids in the house how she had time to do all that. The whole thing seemed pretty elaborate and took a lot of effort, and those kids seemed hard work and time consuming

Novo 11-05-2011 05:36 PM

I was surprised that Abby Girl was real she looked nothing like the mum or the dad though.

Kerry 11-05-2011 07:26 PM

I believe the story is true. Not so sure about the filming

andybigbro 12-05-2011 10:48 PM

This movie was wierd.

But I was completely stuck to it while watching.
