Naiive question about site protocol/set-up

Is there not a way in which only logged-in members can view certain parts of the site?

I can see that it is good for the health of the site that guests can view any threads/discussion on BB/any other show simply by coming-in from google. But some parts of the site such as chat n games seem a bit more for members, yet a casual onlooker could "Meet the Members" (I'm presuming why that's why you have thought twice about under 16s involved).

Many sites I have visited have limited access on forums - "enter your ID"

InOne 18-05-2011 03:50 AM

Might put people off joining though. Not like we get many new members and I doubt that that many are eager to join

Kerry 18-05-2011 03:53 AM

I agree some threads could/should be made private/members only.

I know that Joe - I was thinking not the general ones about shows - only the bits like chat n games.

If a casual browser had been interested enough to read thru crapola on BB12, and wanted to read what we say in chat n games, it might even encourage them to join..............just a thought

the flip side is: guests with access to all areas can see exactly what does go on / has been going on / and guests have access to all threads and pictures being shown, links to sites without permission of members etc - and perhaps that's as much a reason for people not being eager to join. It's a consideration.

In essence, I understand why the suggestion has been raised and why - especially when Tibbs is known for having so many younger members.

Stu 18-05-2011 06:43 PM

It's good suggestion. Something like Meet The Members should be viewable by members only for ... obvious reasons.

Vicky. 18-05-2011 06:54 PM

Thats a very good suggestion actually.

And I think it could be done...since thats kinda how the quiz teams bit worked

Smithy 18-05-2011 06:59 PM

Peoples walls should be made private too

InOne 18-05-2011 07:02 PM

This has been brought up a few times hasn't it? Don't think anything happened last time. I agree with MTM though, dodgy people out there :nono:

You can do that yourself in options..can change it for only your friends to see/people signed up to TiBB/ or not have a wall completely

Smithy 18-05-2011 07:05 PM

ik, but I think it'd be better for the default to be for just members to see it, then you edit to what extent

Stu 18-05-2011 07:06 PM

What about these forums where you can view threads as a guest but only the text? Images don't show up for non members. Happened me loads of times.

Vicky. 18-05-2011 07:11 PM

I've brought this up in admin :)

I dont think I have ever actually seen people putting up a link to their facebook on here so I dont think that would be much of a problem :)

Stu 18-05-2011 07:15 PM

Besides which it's your own peril if your Facebook is public, surely. Put it on private if you are paranoid about pic poaching methinks.

I said 'if'. I'm only putting up my own thoughts - especially if it's being raised with Admin - it may not necessarily be a members putting a link to their own FB page........ it could be members putting up fb links to other membersFB pages, twitter, you tubelinks (which I HAVE seen on here which hold some pretty 'near the knuckle vids of banned members, prancing about their underwear, pulled down, teddies stuffed down the front etc,.) etc. That's the type of thing I mean.

It was only a suggestion for consideration. :)

Not everyone on here uses (or knows) everyone's real live personas or names. those who do - that's more my point.

Stu 18-05-2011 07:31 PM

I know, I understood it.

I think if someone wants to make their Facebook open and wants to give away their full name well they know what to expect. If you don't want pics taken ... or at least the risk of it ... don't give away your full name if your Facebook is an open account.

Common sense, really.

Common sense to you. Common sense to me. It's not commonsense to everyone As I've explained: it has happened and not restricted to facebook only - it applies to some members having linked to other members you tube uploads etc. All I'm putting forward is: if it's to be considered, may as well consider this too.

It's not a 'who is right' situ: it's a 'possibly consideration' only. It's Tibbs' decision, as members, we can put forward suggestions/ ideas - they don't necessarily have to be implemented.

Stu 18-05-2011 07:52 PM

Yeah, I'm aware of all that. Why do you have to constantly defend your viewpoint as if either A) Someone hasn't understood it or B) They've failed to see it's just a suggestion and someones opinion.

I know all of that. I just ... ****ing disagree with it lol. I don't think we should be censoring links to other sites to babysit people.

That's ... it really :conf2:

The age limit for membership is under 16. I think that's more the area of concern and as an adult, I personally feel there 'may' be a need for a certain amount of protection for those classed as 'children' on the site.

It's nothing more than suggestions from current members - and opinions will of course vary. It doesn't make any of us right or wrong. I'm aware that you may personally may understand what I mean, but I'm also very aware than not everyone reading, may have that same level of understanding (if that makes sense!)

Stu 18-05-2011 08:09 PM

Another potent argument for raising the age limit of the site to 16+ to to be honest. It's hillarious at best and irresponsible at worst to expect 13 year olds to virtually hand you the cash revenue through repeat webpage hits for a show that isin't even intended for that audience. And all it does - and let's be honest - is produce 9/10 annoying, disruptive members the forum would be a lot cleaner and more coherent without.

Young teens and forums just don't mix.

Whilst I agree with what you say: the matter lies with Tibbs' owner / managment and for the target audience they (Tibbs) wish to attract. Whilst BB is 'in effect' an adult show: whilst I haven't been here during many BB shows on Tibbs.....I can see how many under 13's contribute to it and who have much purchase on the interaction on the forum and that does remain a constant in respect of the 'reality' of the demographics of BB viewers vs BB's 'intended target audience'.

Currently - the active members who offer the higher rate of contribution to this forum, many are under the 16 / 18 years bracket - regardless of what the TV show intended 'target audience' is.

As I say, I do agree with you, but at the risk of stating the very obvious, the forum doesn't belong to us and all we can do is put forward our 'ifs, buts, maybe, what about this' scenarios.

Pyr - please do not get too angry - treat it for what it is or eff off to DS and see how awful it is there!!!!!!!!!!! Oldies (over 20s) gravitate particularly during a live BB and learn to ignore the snipes. I invented "4am club" cos allthe waynes were in beddy-byes and adults talked

I dont think he meant that in a bad way :)

Kerry 18-05-2011 09:36 PM

Perhaps there could be a forum specifically for photo's that is private, including meet the members, so that a lot of the board can still be seen to 'the outside' and still look inviting. It could also lead to people maybe having their own personal threads (diaries as such) plus a lot of the creative writing could be hidden in there so not ripped off which we've seen happen

Of course, I'm not naive enough to believe that people who are friends of bannees wouldn't pass them on but it may make potential members feel more secure to join

Oh, and this forum could be hidden too. Suggestions. So prying eyes wouldn't know whats going on

I couldn't agree more if I tried. :(

I do appreciate your saying Iceman, I do. :)

Kerry 18-05-2011 09:40 PM

"Members only lounge"

If you want it hidden, outside eyes are forbidden

Oh and maybe there'd have to be a timeframe on when you got access though. Say 100 posts or it's pointless

actually, in another forum I'm joined there's a separate section that only members with over 2000 posts and a certain amount of rep(like karma) can gain access to and only if they verify themselves with photo to admin holding a sign with a word of their choice on it (as yet I haven't posted enough though!
