Mum or Mom?
 

This is mainly aimed at British and Irish amongst us as it is actually Mom in America..

I got in a little twitter debate with loads of people from the midlands (all the Aston Villa fans of course) and they're all telling me it's MOM. I can't stand ''MOM''

If you had to say either what would it be? (and don't say mother)

Tbh I don't call her 'Mum' 'Mummy' or 'Mother'.

I call her 'Ma'.
Not in a kind of Spanish 'Ma and Pa' way - It's in a chavy tone, which sucks but I've been use to doing it for years and everyone else does it so you know.


Same goes for the bloke who's jizz made me.
I call him Da'.

Mother and Mum make you sound Posh and Awkward - especially Mother.

Mummy makes you sound 8 Years old.

I called her 'Mum' one time though infront of her friend to act really polite - but it felt awkward, because we don't get on and I quickly reverted back to Ma.

When i want something i say Mother it usually works a treat

Mum or mam if I was speaking to her directly but if i'm speaking of her to someone else I normally say my "Maw" :laugh:

Mam's also another one that I hear a lot of my English friends use, but Mom comes from over the pond.

not exclusively, alot of Irish people say mom but not in an an Americany way

it's both, it's pronounced Mod-ra in Irish but it's spelt them same as the spanish word

Mom is, for some reason, what they say in the west midlands area. But not east midlands where I once lived.

Isn't mom the more logical short/informal way of saying mother, as there actually is an 'o' in mother? How the hell does a 'u' get in there?
