Mum or Mom?
This is mainly aimed at British and Irish amongst us as it is actually Mom in America..
I got in a little twitter debate with loads of people from the midlands (all the Aston Villa fans of course) and they're all telling me it's MOM. I can't stand ''MOM'' If you had to say either what would it be? (and don't say mother) Poll coming up |
as i said on facebook

Tbh I don't call her 'Mum' 'Mummy' or 'Mother'.
I call her 'Ma'. Not in a kind of Spanish 'Ma and Pa' way - It's in a chavy tone, which sucks but I've been use to doing it for years and everyone else does it so you know. Same goes for the bloke who's jizz made me. I call him Da'. Mother and Mum make you sound Posh and Awkward - especially Mother. Mummy makes you sound 8 Years old. I called her 'Mum' one time though infront of her friend to act really polite - but it felt awkward, because we don't get on and I quickly reverted back to Ma. |
When i want something i say Mother it usually works a treat
|
Mum or mam if I was speaking to her directly but if i'm speaking of her to someone else I normally say my "Maw"

Mom is, for some reason, what they say in the west midlands area. But not east midlands where I once lived.
|
Speaker to her - Mam
Speaking of her - Mother |
neither.
Mam, Ma or Mother. |
Mummy, in an exaggeratedly posh 8 year old manner.
|
thats really cute
|
Isn't mom the more logical short/informal way of saying mother, as there actually is an 'o' in mother? How the hell does a 'u' get in there?
