Each pair has one exemption. If both take it, neither get it, if one takes it then that player gets it. If more than 2 pairs go for exemption, you fail and The Mole is a step closer to winning...

Its both, 1 exemption per a pair but only 2 pairs can have the exemption

Seeing as me and Smithy have both had a exemption so far, we are not going to go for the exemptions so this is one group out of it. :)
