What's with the strict rules on the English Language, mods?

OK, I understand that text speech is quite difficult for the older generation to understand, but don't you think capital letters is going a bit too far?

Vicky. 06-07-2011 08:23 PM

Theres always been a no caps rule here...since the forum opened.

I dont really get why people would want to type all in capitals anyways :/

No, I mean you should have capitals for nouns and that. Sounds a bit OTT to me. :conf:

I know, but having CAPITAL LETTERS for EVERY single noun is ridiculous, IMO. And here's somebody who's studying advanced English.

I very much doubt it.

CharlieO 06-07-2011 08:35 PM

And its not nouns its only proper nouns.
People, Places, Names ect

For example:
apple - no need for capital letter
London - needs capital letter.
shop- no need
James- need

Doogle 06-07-2011 08:38 PM

Apple would be a capital if you referred to the company though.

Kerry 06-07-2011 08:39 PM

What about the word language?

Stu 06-07-2011 08:43 PM

ukturtle is damn right.

Well done on the pointless moan thread though. You know damn well nobody is going to get warned just for not capatalising so why complain about it?

The amount of language transgressions that get excused here is unreal.

You know what I mean. You're talking to somebody who achieved an A* at GCSE English, top of the class.

Infact I dont know what you mean, you have not been asked to make every noun with a capital letter.

Vicky. 06-07-2011 09:44 PM

There's always the possibility that the 'older generation' have degrees in English, you know. Which would wee all over your GCSE :joker:Text speech isn't 'difficult' for anyone. It's irritating, lazy and boring. I'm astonished that anyone on TIBB could complain that the moderation in relation to the English language is too strict. It seems virtually non-existent to me.
