Actress Annette Charles, who played Cha Cha DiGregorio, in the hit film Grease, has died at the age of 63.

The actress, who also starred in TV series Gunsmoke and The Bionic Woman, was suffering from cancer.

As Cha Cha, she memorably stole the limelight dancing the hand jive with Danny (John Travolta) at the school dance competition.

She continued acting into the late eighties, but latterly moved into teaching near her home in California.

According to reports, she had only recently been diagnosed with cancer - and died from complications linked to the disease.

A family member told US website TMZ: "Annette had recently started having difficulty breathing and when she went to the doctor she learned that she had a cancerous tumour in one of her lungs."

She died in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Her death comes two months after Jeff Conaway, who played Kenickie in the hit 1978 musical, passed away.

They are all dropping like flies. Olivia Newton John and John Travolta better watch out!

Marc 05-08-2011 04:25 PM

-goes to look out for any possible life threatening diseases that might strike Olivia-

All jokes aside, its worrying at how many celebrities are dying, most of them being young aswell like Stephen Gately and Amy Winehouse as examples.

I wonder what is causing it all?

Shaun 05-08-2011 04:37 PM

I think it might be mortality

Good sarcasm, but people like Stephen Gately,Amy Winehouse and Jade Goody shouldnt be dying at there ages and especially so close together,Its very weird IMO.

Smithy 05-08-2011 04:44 PM

They all died over a year apart, hardly odd when you think about the number of people their age that die every year

Marc 05-08-2011 04:47 PM

It's death. It happens unfortunately, we shouldn't care any more really because they're famous.

Note: me and Olivia have history.

Grease is the word. Word. RIP ChaCha.

JF, I don't think celebrities die any more often than us mere mortals. We just simply hear a lot more about them so they stand out. Really, theyre not actually that frequent when you think of how many thousands qualify as some kind of celebrity(Cha Cha from Grease is hardly A-list).

Plus Annette was in her 60s. Really not unusual for women to die of cancer by that age. Sadly. You could turn it around and say that its amazing that none of the other females in Grease have died by now of cancer. They are in the high risk age group. Olivia has survived cancer, I know.

LaLaLand 05-08-2011 05:10 PM

WOW that's so weird I Googled her yesterday! R.I.P.

In respect of Cha Cha being the latest victim of cancer go to the Breast cancer site and clickety click to raise funds. Its a simple gesture.

Well farrah had cancer, which statistically one in three people get, then something like one out of three of people who get it die, so that's not that big of a surprise. And Michael Jackson was (supposedly) murdered

Apparently a quarter of Americans have been on TV anyway. Everyone seems to be "famous" nowadays ;)

People die every day, whether they are famous or not.
