This.

Red Moon 21-08-2011 11:03 PM

I'm having trouble understanding all he say's but then my dyslexia can't be helping, but it is getting easier the more I watch.

Zippy 21-08-2011 11:04 PM

enough to get the jist of what he means

but I wouldnt want to be in charge of his subtitles

CharlieO 21-08-2011 11:06 PM

Sometimes can sometimes cant.

Lister of Smeg 21-08-2011 11:06 PM

cant understand him well but i still like him

Mystic Mock 21-08-2011 11:08 PM

I used to try to understand him but now ive given up.

Iceman 21-08-2011 11:09 PM

I get everything he's saying.

emmetmcl 21-08-2011 11:15 PM

Yeah, took me while to understand on the first night, but know what he's on about now. Probably cos he's got a kinda Irish accent.

Callum 21-08-2011 11:20 PM

Most of the time I can't, no.

Locke. 21-08-2011 11:20 PM

Don't understand a word he says but he still manages to be funny

Jordan. 21-08-2011 11:23 PM

Not at all, just the odd word.

:joker::joker::joker: I can most of the time but I have to really concentrate.

Zippy 21-08-2011 11:27 PM

I was amazed to hear him say he was born in England. He actually picked up that accent growing up here? Surely not.

Jamietwo 21-08-2011 11:31 PM

i like him but i don't want my drive resurfaced or anything....pikeys just sound irish to me

aiv 21-08-2011 11:35 PM

It's like when I listen to the people on TG4 in Ireland speaking Irish really fast and everything... I don't understand all of it but get the idea... Paddy is getting easier to understand with each show though. Needs a bit of getting used to

CaudleHalbard 21-08-2011 11:35 PM

I find it hard to understand what ANY of them are saying this year. I don't know if C5 have decided to get cheapo mikes or whatever.

But when Marcus Bentley announces the voting phone numbers, it's so loud I have to turn the sound down!

What's going on? :conf3:

reece(: 21-08-2011 11:40 PM

rarely

Peter. 21-08-2011 11:43 PM

Your probably right actually

Yea actually, because I know when I watch Big Fat Gypsy Wedding I could understand him no bother and also I should have an advantage because I do also live in Ireland so maybe C5 should have a look at their audio equipment:/

Zippy 21-08-2011 11:46 PM

Its not the equipment. I have no problems understanding other HMs.

Peter. 21-08-2011 11:50 PM

Maybe its just Paddys mic

Maybe it's just his mic lol or as some quoted 'iPod'

Most Irish Travellers stay within their communities with little outside interaction. I don't know if you watched any of Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, but some of the younger ones might have been 3rd generation English despite having really strong Irish accents.

@ OPs question. I can understand about 80% of what he says. It's got a lot easier.

lostalex 21-08-2011 11:54 PM

I'm starting to understand him more. The same way it took me a long time to understand some thick scottish accents in the house on previous seasons.

Sophiee 22-08-2011 12:12 AM

I understand most of what he says now, it's getting easier the more I listen to him.

amai-murasaki 22-08-2011 12:26 AM

I understand Paddy - I suppose it helped watching The Big Fat Gypsy Wedding you get used to their accents.

Peter. 22-08-2011 12:59 AM

Also I mean that phone call sounded like a different language..:/

I did think that at first actually.

Sunny_01 22-08-2011 08:06 AM

Nope its all kind of spoken in tongues as far as I am concerned.

Jords 22-08-2011 08:07 AM

Mostly.. just about :joker:

Marc 22-08-2011 08:10 AM

I think he's hilarious BECAUSE I can't understand him

ABigbother 22-08-2011 10:08 AM

I can only understand him when he says "Lady" or "Honest to god" apart from that it's all double Dutch.
I'm also have trouble with Tara that accent is truely horrible.

Incensed 22-08-2011 10:12 AM

I actually switched the subtitles on last night so I knew what he was talking about. :joker:

Livia 22-08-2011 10:19 AM

I think Paddy udnerstanding other people is more of a problem. People have to say the same thing to him over and over and over and still there is hardly a flicker of comprehension in his eyes.

he also seemed to say 'Baby' a lot to his wife...

dwarling 22-08-2011 03:37 PM

I do find him a bit to understand at times, but I'm getting there..I think he's really funny and a great choice of housemate.

Smithy 22-08-2011 04:31 PM

Why does he have an irish accent if he was born in Manchester D:

▲¯\_(ツ)_/¯▲ 22-08-2011 05:23 PM

Being Irish and growing up around travellers, I can say yea I understand him easily.

He doesn't have an Irish accent though, he has a Traveller accent, but I can definitely hear a British twinge to it, Northern English to be precise.
There are a lot of things he says and words he uses that sound very English when you are used to the Irish Travellers accent
