Do you think Jedward helped or harmed CBB ratings?
I know there are some who think Jedward brought viewers to the show but I say BS to that theory. It seems more likely to me they put many types of viewers off. Lets face it, their hardcore fanbase is not that big so who cares if they didnt watch? But when you think of the wide demograph who can't stand them it's potentially a huge number.
And to say it would have been dull without them is impossible to say because we would have had, hopefully, interesting personalities in their place. Plus a whole different dynamic. So its not that simple. Its obvious that ch5 had a plan here to have annoying toddlers against older HMs who would be irritated by their behaviour. So if you took them out of the equation it would have been a very different set up to begin with. So yeah, do you think their inclusion helped or hindered the ratings? VOTE NOW! |
Of course they helped otherwise the show would not even have got 1 million viewers otherwise, because even the haters like to bitch about them.
|
To say that they hurt the ratings is a bit of a stretch considering that the viewing demographic are people that are typically more prone to be accepting of such novel characters. You know all of Jedwards fans were tuned in each and every night and those who hated them tuned in to see who they were going to piss off enough to get killed and/or removed from the house...
In terms of what I expected considering their age and reputation, I actually came out a lot warmer to the duo than I was when the show started. At first I thought they were just annoying twits but after seeing them for the long haul of the series I kinda get their schtick. But to answer your question directly and simply; no -- they did NOT hurt the ratings. |

And please tell me just how many Jedward fanatics dedicated an hour a day to the show just because of their presence? Millions? Thousands? dozens? And would that include the 3000 that made the effort to buy their album? |
I'm sure they brought some people in but it didn't make up for the amount of people who didn't bother with it. The attempt to bring in a younger audience with flashy editing and the likes of Childs and Jedward clearly did not work.
And that's what we will continue to see, sadly. And this was the traditionally higher rating celebrity version. Now we have about ten weeks of it with nobodies and still no live streaming. To save themselves the embarrassment I'd just go all out and make it an 11pm niche show full of booze, punishing tasks and a house full of Shabaz sorts. I'm sure plenty of uberfans will disagree with me because they live and die by the ratings and get butthurt and paranoid at the idea that not everyone is watching their favourite show but I'd love it. |
I didn't know anything of Jedward, I didn't watch the X Factor when they were contestants. I had only seen them sing in last years Big Brother. It was then that I realised how annoying they were and that they couldn't sing.
When I heard they were doing this year's CBB I was hesitant to watch based on what I had seen previously. I never thought the day would come where I actually found them to be hilariously entertaining. I spent the first week watching CBB thinking what oddballs these two were. Then during the second week I really came to liking them. They were exactly what I like to see in the BB house. I like the madness and mayhem they caused, I laughed at how Paddy & Darryn would get worked up by them. By the final week I was loving their childish behaviour, it was harmless and they were playing the game brilliantly for me. I've still not really heard any of their music and I'm not interested in finding out, but I will say that they kept this year's show alive for me. I can't answere the question on whether they helped or harmed the show, only from my own personal point of view. |
I sadly know more people who watched purely for them than switched off because of them. The people who were put off by Big Brother were done so long before they were even famous, so I doubt they'd have motivated many to do so.
|
Probably for every one person who was put off by them there will have been about 10 who would have stopped watching, if it wasn't for Jedward and their antics.
|
^can you please spoiler your sig picture?
you seem to be an adult male so why you seem so enamoured by that picture Im not quite sure. Not even gonna go there. But some of us find pale, pasty almost nude teens disturbing to look at when innocently posting on a forum. |
Helped without a doubt. I definitely think more people tuned in because of them, then will have turned of because they don't like them.

Yeah it did help, but if im honest i dont know why, i really found them so irritating at points during the HL's.
|
I was not happy when they went in, but they grew on me. People I knew watched just incase they really upset someone and it all kicked off! As I said, not a fan, but good entertainment.
|
I don't think they helped the ratings as much as Channel 5 thought they would.
|
helped! they were the highlight of the whole show!
|
Definitely think the speculation (and then confirmation) that they were going in really helped the launch, but they definitely harmed the ratings in the long run.
|
It drove me nuts watching them as it incensed me and I wanted the other housemates to get ripped into them....so in my case: I'd have switched off a lot sooner - it was only in the hope that the adults would give them hell, that kept me tuning him tbh.
|
short term gain but long term loss IMO
|
They helped - which is why they should of won.
You'll see tonight when BB12 doesn't manage 2 Million, that Jedward made the show. |

But yeah, you're a Jedward fan so quelle surprise with your logic. |
If Jedward were struggling to get this pile of **** up to 2 million, then just imagine any future Big Brother series where theres nobody as well known or talked about as Jedward?
The viewing figures will be frightening, especially if C5 keep this new style up aswell. |
I think it helped. Another thing is i seen so many comments from people when the whole Lucien Amy thing was going on and when it went to Jedward they said it was a sigh of relief and they enjoyed watching them.
|
Jedward helped attract children of nursery school mentality and adults with the same.......As for a real BB series the ruined any chances of CBB being a true edition. For a childrens version of BB and the immature they were ideal.
Actually its unfair to blame Jedward they are what they are.....I would blame CH5 for turning CBB into childrens fodder.....Glossy childish editing also ruined the essence of what BB is about |

Well then, I suppose it's a good thing I really don't care whether you're following me or not... Your thread asked for my opinion and I provided it. You don't have to agree with it but let's keep the insults out of it, okay? I'd like to believe there's still some civility left in the world. :xyxwave: To further touch upon my initial post, I know SEVERAL people who couldn't stand the thought of those kids when they first went into their house. Many of those people (more than not) were surprised with the level of entertainment they ended up bringing to the house. Other than sweatgate and the love triangle of Lucien, Kerry, and Amy, without Jedward the show would have been bland (barring alternative housemates of the same nature). Finally, to touch on your last point about many people who "tuned out" and didn't bother to "tune back in," as it were, you're absolutely right... but then again, most of those people didn't feel the need to come onto an internet forum to express their distaste... On the contrary, they just tuned out and kept it moving, never looking back... Perhaps you should have done the same. In any event, you can thank your lucky stars that the series is over... so now you can find something else to be discontent about. Have a SUPER day. :wavey: |

It does make me giggle that some of those who allegedly switched off - or didn't switch on to watch - seem to be in a better position to judge the antics of Jedward - on the show that they didn't watch much of. wish I knew how to do that, would save me needing to buy a TV Licence !!! |

Going by the poll results: love 'em or loathe 'em - seems the majority agree that Jedward helped CBB ratings.
|
Considering they were the only 'celebs' relevant in the past 2/3 years they probably did.
|
Well,I am pleased to see that this poll is saying they had helped CBB so far.Maybe it will change over time but it's interesting none-the-less.
|
I think they helped, I mean, I don't think I would of watched the series otherwise, I hate the two of them, but I wanted to see them without being fake, which I didn't really get to see, but it's one of the only reasons I watched it.
|
Deleted some posts. Usual reasons.
|
Some turned off because of them. But I think overall they will have helped the ratings.
|
So, what were the ratings?
I didn't watch. First one I didn't watch. Not watching this one either. |
Were they worth the money they got paid? I doubt it, it could have been spent on other things (presenter, live stream).
|

However I do think celebrities get paid too much anyway. If other commitments or other work though have to be rejected or things put on hold then for 3 weeks or more, then these fees are unfortunately a necessary part of such series being made. Their fee certainly wouldn't have covered anything like the costs of live feed and there is a fully competent presenter in place anyway in Brian. |
