The Supermarket Scam

Not sure if this is true, but most likely is. Is that Supermarkets will raise their prices sometime in November, and then lower them again in December to make it look like everything is cheap and they have loads of offers on, when basically it's the same. :suspect:

Maia 26-11-2011 11:57 PM

Doesn't this already happen all year round?

Novo 26-11-2011 11:59 PM

The best one is when they do buy 1 Get 2 free but they make the item price really high so really you are paying for 2 and getting 1 free

Yep, they sure do. Same with the other side of 'sales'....they only have to have had an item at a higher price in one store - not the entire group.

It amazes me the people who don't actually look at the price breakdown on these deals........ who really think they are getting a bargain, because something is 'on offer', when they aren't.

InOne 27-11-2011 12:20 AM

I think that's probably where they're quite clever. People just look for the buzz words and ignore everything else.

Smithy 27-11-2011 12:21 AM

How have you only just found this out joe?

Kerry 27-11-2011 12:22 AM

Deals are never deals. Well, unless you want everything in bulk and pay twice what you wanted

I got some noodles with my shopping the other day. 4 for £2. First thing I thought was what if someone just wants one for 50p? They can't

They're not stupid

Yeah but a lot of people do their shopping like after work and stuff, so they're often half rushing around, that's who the buzz words will appeal to. They basically just throw it in and don't think anything of, maybe they might realise after but most of the time they'll probably just think they got an ok deal

Yes a lot of people do their shopping rushing around but it doesn't take much time to look and suss out what is a good deal and what's not - not saying it doesn't happen, what I am saying is that clever people who don't want to chuck money down the drain - are wise to it and the scams - and can easily work out what's cheaper.

Even easier when you shop online and the prices are broken down into costs per item (in the case of toilet rolls) or weight etc for other products - makes it incredibly easy to see what is a bargain and what is not. It's really not that difficult.

I don't think it's about being clever, it's just not what is always on people's minds

With respect, it's sheer stupidity to just buy something because it's got a certain sticker on it and you (ie: the consumer) are happy to take the supermarket's word on it - that's my opinion - and if anyone wants to give away their money for nothing, that's the way to do it.

Short of nipping into a supermarket for a one off such as a cooked chicken / pair of tights ..... I always order online and get it delivered, and as I said earlier; it makes it so incredibly easy to see what's best value as the items are very clearly marked up with individual prices for bulk purchases etc....... it really isn't difficult nor anymore time consuming - given that you have a plethora of items showing on one page.

Jesus, you act as if you're some supreme being or something.

And like I said, people are sometimes in a bit of a rush so they don't have time to go adding every little thing up along the way.

And you appear to act like no one else is allowed to have any other opinion on something other than agree with your own - and that's when you start throwing around insults. - simply because someone doesn't agree with you 100%.

I speak from my own experience - so that's what I'll comment on.

No insults thrown here, don't start all that again.

And I'm just calling you up on comments, that is all.

Perhaps lay off with the BIB type comments and accept that someone else has another take on things; which is not you 'calling me up on comments' as there is nothing for you to 'call me up on'. It's me giving my own view on how some consumers don't realise how easy it is to work it out - and I even backed that up with a fairly detailed explanation why I had that view.

Kerry 27-11-2011 01:15 AM

Well your way of wording is dodgy, we'll leave it at that.

Back on topic please :)

My way of wording could not be clearer if I tried.

I think you will find my reply above, was in direct response to your comment to me. You will also find that my comment above, was directly ON TOPIC.

Blimey, an argument about checking supermarket prices at 2.20 on a Saturday night

InOne 27-11-2011 01:26 AM

And guess who's involved :idc:

Kerry 27-11-2011 01:27 AM

Not always practical but one good thing to do is shop with a family member or friend. Then split the deals. Especially BOGOF's
