Grand National Betting
Who have you gone for?
I'm on Chicago Grey (the winner), Black Apalachi (a nice little fourth placer), and Hello Bud (my outsider, might just about manage to scrape the fifth place pay out that Paddy Power are offering.) Will probably throw a few quid on one or two others while am waiting for the train in the morning. Thinking about Junior and On His Own. Odds - http://www.paddypower.com/racing/dai.../-2607241.html |
I just pick ones that I like the name of.
It's as good a way as any :) |
Shakalakaboomboom is being heavily tipped on William Hill. Probably go for him and Midnight Haze e/w

We had the weird name winner last year it is time for a good old fashioned name like Hello Bud to win
Will probably wait till tomorrow morning and bet on whoever the paper tells me to
Cappa Bleu - winner
Tharawaat - e/w Hello Bud - e/w In Compliance - winner |
what ever number 17 is £4 e/w
Cappa Bleu should be about 10 or 12's and it will probably will go into 10's tomorrow so 14/1 is a great price not sure if i will back it though
May go for Quiscover Fontaine, Alfa Beat And Viking Blond each ways and then put something on Planet of sound and Always Right |
Just put a bet on Calgary Bay on what I had in Paddy Power 75p each way at 40/1. So £39 back would do.
Put a couple of quid on Cappa Bleu to win, then just 50p each way on Becauseicouldntsee and Calgary Bay
Edit - just put another 50p on Always Right e/w |
Deep Purples shortened from 66/1 to 25/1 in only a couple of hours

The horse I bet most on is clowning.
Anyone win anything?
£6 lost for me :bored: closest was Capa Bleu coming 4th, should have gone each way
Seabass and Bleu broke me even lol
I'd be fuming if I had money on Sunnyhillboy to win.
I was hearing about a guy who put £50k on Synchronised to win, what a shocker for AP
OldeR bro put down 20 on 40/1
Fuming I am lol |

Yeah.
800 win. Luckiest prick when it comes to betting lol |
Haha, bet he's loving it right now. So lucky as well, won by a few millimetres :joker:
According to Pete and Synchronised both died :(
Sad news, annoying how everyone goes into a frenzy when this happens though, wanting it to be banned
It shouldn't be banned but I do think 40 runners is a bit much. Synchronised won the Gold Cup earlier this year and didn't even want to run this, now he's dead.

(I'd have betted on Killyglen btw x) |
The whole sport shouldn't be banned just because of one race that carries high risk, people who say that haven't got a clue and just basing their judgement of horse racing from the Grand National but i don't think they have done enough to the fences they still look as high as they did last year and the width needs to be increased on that field but Horses are really injury prone anyway so they are always going to have a good chance of getting injured when they fall
Race horses are normally really well cared for though and have a higher quality life than most horses, it's a shame that deaths happen and maybe it could be safer but even in the most dangerous races like the national fatal injuries are relatively rare
Even for minor injuries horses need to be put down most of the things they suffer can easily be treated on a human people
The thing is, they're bred to race and they love it. If you watch a race, once a jockey falls off, the horse carries on to finish without him. If I were a horse, I'd prefer to have the life of a race horse than stand in a field avoiding my **** for eight years. They're kept active, well groomed, well fed and, once they retire, have a great quality of life. Yes, accidents happen, but at least once they do get injured they're put out of their misery. In the wild, they'd be left to suffer in pain (Before anyone says, I understand that the likelihood of a horse getting injured in the same was is is significantly lower in the wild). I've already said in this thread, perhaps the National should be looked at, the numbers of runners reduced and some action to make the course safer, lower fences and a wider field, as Novo said, but I horse racing shouldn't be banned as a sport.
