Me and Mr Clarke

In the light of the effect my postings seem to be having recently on a few site members, I think perhaps I need to try to clarify a few things. I refer to a resurrected thread which has today been locked.

I am not
 madly and blindly enamoured of Paul, and I do not have restless turgid dreams about him. I like him, and ROB has become a sort of champion for him over the months. This has become a bit of a cause celebre' without my intending it too. However, I have been more than happy to go along with it, it's harmless enough, I'm old enough to be his mum, and after all, he is a nice young chap.

It has also fitted in with my little stories, and I make no apology for the fact that I find it easier to write about Paul and Helen in these than any of the other housemates.

I also like many other of the ex-housemates, although admittedly some more than others. This reflects my feelings about the people I come in contact with everyday.

I do not hate any of the ex-housemates.

I do not intend to offend any members of the site with my posts.

I am happy to read everybody else's posts too, in fact, the more the merrier.

All my posts are written tongue in cheek to some extent. I know this isn't the World Summit, and I know what I or anybody else thinks about a growing band of ex-reality TV participants isn't going to further the development of world peace and harmony.

What I value most of all about visiting this site is the friends I have made here. They have become part of my life, I value their comradeship enormously, and consequently I will keep visiting because of it.

So, if I go off at a tangent about Mr Clarke, please step back and remember that I do still have a grasp of what is going on around me, and I am just trying to have a little fun.

Thankyou and happy posting!

ROB don't worry, I think 99% of your posts are great. I enjoy bantering with you, and think 99% of the people who use these forum are not 'offended' by any of your posts.

I don't feel you needed to justify your posts. I like to talk about Spanky a lot. Everyone has there own faves.

I would like to thank you, ROB, for keeping me entertained, for almost a year now, with your wonderful stories about Helen and Paul and also for your many other amusing or heart-rending posts.

I would certainly miss your contribution and I am so disappointed that you have found it necessary to justify your postings.

I like reading about Paul Clarke myself, keep it up, in fact I've learnt so much about Paul Clarke from ROB the questions on five lives should have been about him.  I know that your having a bit of fun. It's a pity that some people are taking the postings a bit to seriously. Have a laugh now and then, for gods sake. :spin: :spin2:

You don't have to justify yourself ROB. Just carry on being you and posting whatever you feel in your own witty and intelligent way, which is about a hundred times more lucid and interesting than anything certain other members could write!!

I must take issue with the thread title

It is more grammatical to write "Mr Clarke and I" :nono:

Us old timers must really set an example for the younger posters.

I feel old and I see the ever closening shadow of the spectre of a zimmer frame

kaphc 02-09-2002 07:56 PM

Dear ROB

We wouldn't have you change a single thing! :nono:

I hope you can carry on exactly as you are!

True Sticks, very true. However, I feel the parallels here are with the 'Me and Mrs Jones' presentation, if not the 'You and me and Bobby McGee' format.

Me and Mr Clarke makes it seem somehow more 'inclusive', more intimate, more 'have you got enough of the blankets babe?'.......... :spin2:

Tonto1278 02-09-2002 08:16 PM

Hey my Mates mum works with Paul

Romantic Old Bird 02-09-2002 08:21 PM

Tonto, your mate's mum is a bloody lucky woman!!

You can't just leave it there-

To paraphrase the great W&I

I demand to have some news!

Tell me more!!

I am GREEEN with envy!!

Tonto1278 02-09-2002 08:26 PM

Well my mates know I'm a BB nut. And they were saying to me your gonna pack your pants when you find out whos working with so and so's mum. I said who and they said Paul Clarke, I wasn't that excited cos I'm not a big fan of Paul. I asked the person and they said yer apperently hes got a nice car, I forgot what it was. And shes met Helen, i was excited by that!!!!

BusyBee 02-09-2002 08:31 PM

We all have housemates that we became attached to, so ROB became attached to PC why not. Her stories and ramblings have kept us all amused for so long - keep it up ROB dont ever change.

I am totally on your side as I think the young man is a good un. Watching over him and Helen in the house made me feel protective as if they were my own son and daughter (Yes I know that would be incest, but you know what I mean)

Tonto you must let us have all the gossip - we hear so little news of this particular young man that any insight will be jumped on. Please tell us more. :hello: :hello:

Tonto1278 02-09-2002 08:33 PM

Well thats all I know. I wasn't interested in Paul. Oh and she said hes hunky in real life.

Too right Peachy. I could not have put it better myself.

We love you ROB, and I am unanymus in that [for those who don't know that is a quote from 'Are you being served']

PS can't we have a spell check on this facility for idiots like me who can't spell and don't want to be 'rumbled'

Bonzo, you've hit the nail exactly on the head!

ROB, thank you for making that post, although I feel so sad that you felt you had to make it.

After BB2 finished, I visited several forums and was absolutely shocked at how vicious and malicious some of the posters were - both about the housemates and each other.

Over a period of months, fans of Brian, Helen & Paul, Bubble, etc. tended to bond together on one particular forum. If you were, for example, an H&P fan and posted about them on a forum which favoured Brian, you were invariably ripped to shreds by the other posters.

Consequently, a lot of H&P fans congregated together, firstly on TBB and then on this fantastic forum, which provided a 'safe ground' for them to discuss their favourite housemates.

However, we are also delighted that we have members whose favourite housemates were Brian, Bubble, or other housemates from BB2 or BB3. I make no apologies for admitting to be a Helen & Paul fan, however I also think Brian and Dean (and Alex) are great. Like ROB, I don't HATE any of the housemates, whether from BB1, BB2 or BB3. I respect the fact that everyone has their favourites and if that doesn't coincide with mine, then so be it.

The point I'm trying to make? We may all like different housemates, but that's not a crime. Surely we can all be adult enough to respect each other's opinion ............ and yes, have a laugh or two together while we exchange views.

Sorry for the ramble. ROB - never change!

Mairi 02-09-2002 10:11 PM

Just for the record, although I am a HUGE fan of Paul and Helen's and, like BusyBee, darn near adopted them as my own, I am also a fan of every other BB2 housemate except Elizabeth and Stuart and am happy to hear news about any of them.

I have'nt been on this forum long but R.O.b. you have given me a lot of entertainment from your stories about Paul and Helen i love them they are brill i have spent hours reading them you always fetch a smile to my face whenever i read any thing you write on the forum you have a great gift with words keep up the great work your making a lot of people happy

Romantic Old Bird 03-09-2002 06:23 AM

How nice all of that was! I didn't write my position statement for that purpose but I'm not complaining!!

Boris my friend, can I just say that although I am sure 'Are you being Served' has brought forth some classic quotes for our times, in this case

I demand to have some news!

I was referring to a slight pun on the classic words of the wonderful Richard E Grant in that masterpiece of modern cinema...

Rob if it was not for your postings and a few more that post on this site i would not bother to visit . I dont always post because i do not always know what to say with out sending everybody to sleep.but visit every day just to read everybodies post and have a nice smile for the day.Its a pity you feel that you have to explain to people that donot think it is just a bit of fun , there is not enough peoplle like you in this world who can give so many people a lot of joy just by dreaming up your stories about Paul and Helen, I also like you enjoyed bb2more than bb3 and still love to hear your stories. I think you must keep all the people around you very happy just for them to know you you sound such a careing person who likes to spread happieness where you can and after all if you make people happy you should never feel you have to explain to them that dont want tobe happy . KEEP US OLDIES ENTERTAINED PLEASE JUST BY BEING YOUR SELF.

ROB - I go away for a few days and look what happens. I have obviously missed the furore but the shock waves reached me here on the sunny isle of Menorca. I had to find the nearest internet cafe and get in touch asap. I don´t know who´s said what and have obviously missed quite a few postings but, please, please, please, don´t ever stop entertaining us with your stories of the lovely Paul and Helen. We (who have brains) KNOW your thoughts on the delectable Mr C are always tinged with humour and genuine liking for his role as a guardian and general good guy in looking after Helen. Sorry that someone has misinterpreted this (?) and obviously made some disparaging comments. HOW DARE THEY!! Keep up the good work ROB - we love you to bits.

BigSister 03-09-2002 01:03 PM

I agree with all of you

I like Helen and Paul and although I like some of the other housemates (Brian, Kate, Spencer and others) I like them too

ROB dont change, because if you did it wouldnt be the same

cc100 03-09-2002 01:54 PM

DONT CHANG ROB!!!

i like many others enjoy your musings on p/h and bb in general

i post just as many things on the couple as you do-no one hassles me

chill yer boots

monie 03-09-2002 05:13 PM

I have not posted for months as BB3 was not as interesting as BB2 until possibly the last couple of weeks. But I felt the need to come to ROBS defence. Being a TIBB member for over a year I have found ROBs stories, and harmless fun re Paul a pleasure to read. Sometimes when I was a little down I would read over ROBS words and would end up crying with laughter. You continue your wonderful stories ROB. The only sorry thing is that the news on Mr Clarke is now very thin so we do not get so many wonderful stories. :hello: :hello: :elephant: :elephant:

Sticks 03-09-2002 07:36 PM

With all our new targets and quotas, I feel it is my duty to bring in a note of dischord.

Anyone mind if I have the night off from doing that ???

Oldgit 03-09-2002 09:03 PM

Sorry I have missed this thread up until now.

As it happens, ROB, I think your postings about you and Paul Clarke are hilarious, loved some of your older stuff where you and another, shall I say, mature lady from this site had a fight over him... had me in stitches, who cares if you are tongue in cheek or you really have a huge crush on him, it's funny either way.

But on the more serious note: I think the title "Me and Mr Clarke" is grammatically okay, if not completely correct. It cannot be completely correct because it is not a sentence, it is a phrase used as a title.

I think the word "about" is implied, in that title, so you could say the title actually means "About me and Mr Clarke". That phrase would be correct, because if Mr Clarke were not included, you would say "About me". You would not say "About I".

When deciding whether to use "me" or "I" in this situation, you have to look at whether you would have used "me" or "I" if the other person was not there.

So the sentence "Mrs Oldgit and I watched Big Brother" is correct. To say "Kate's victory was welcomed by me and Mrs Oldgit" is also correct. If I were to say "Kate's victory was welcomed by Mrs Oldgit and I" that would be wrong, as "by me" is correct and "by I" is wrong.

Comprendez?

  :spin2: :spin2:

cc100 04-09-2002 01:17 PM

does mr. rob know about ur fantasies?

Ig 04-09-2002 08:31 PM

Take no notice ROB!! Even someone like me with a well-documented PC allergy enjoys your posts and lovely stories!

I don't know where these mysterious strangers came from, or why they decided to single you out, but I think this thread may have put them firmly in their place(s)!!!

I like ROB's stories, I do!! :wavey:

Janette 04-09-2002 09:45 PM

ROB

You are the best, and no-one here wants you to stop writing about Mr Clarke!

The reason I closed that thread was because I was sick to death of new members joining this site and posting one abusive or nasty post and then going away!

I did not want everyone to have to bother with idiots like that, simple as that!

We all love your stories, they make fabulous reading and I for one hope you're composing your latest story right now

cc100 05-09-2002 12:09 PM

I THINK ROB KNOWS THIS AND IS DOING A 'TARA'-PRETENDING TO BE HURT JUST TO SEE HOW MUCH WE LIKE HER

peachy 05-09-2002 12:14 PM

You could be right CC100. There are distinct similarities between them. ROB frequently pretends to be a lickle bitty bunny rabbit and the sight of ROB in a black bikini is something to behold!

Romantic Old Bird 05-09-2002 12:19 PM

Thanks a lot cc.

. :bawling:  :bawling: I wasn't really although I admit it does look a bit like that.

I was trying to defend myself from a rather personal attack and take issue with a couple of people. It wanted to remind them that I know I am quite mad, but also that this, us, TIBB is all just for fun.

But the comments were really nice, thankyou everyone.
