Can HMs Still Actually Make Money Or A Living From Big Brother?

I am kinda confused what is the appeal to the housemates these days.
The last celebrity to ever be made from the show was Josie Gibson who has become dire. Plus she was almost a lower level of Z list.

I really don't know why the housemates think they will get anything from it. But will they? For example will someone like Lauren make any cash? Will she get a job or anything from this? Same with people like Aaron. Or Becky who we know actually went in for future jobs.

I thought the last people to actually make any money from BB was Josie and John James in 2010, or can people actually make money or a living from this?

Just an honest question. Of course most of the people on this forum would go on for the experience, as would I. But ever since what Aarron said about 4 housemates trying to commit suicide. I worry for housemates entering the house. Do they think they are gonna be some sort of celebrity or something?

TL DR: Can The HMS Make much cash/living or future jobs from BB?

Locke. 06-08-2012 02:20 AM

Lauren has already appeared in Nuts mag which will have earned her a couple of grand, and Arron is going to be doing a gay magazine according to some thread on here which will earn him something.

I think most of the younger housemates just do PA's in clubs in and around London which they get paid a small amount for and just get to have a good time for a couple of months, and then it's over. But if you're a young and attractive female then you're guaranteed an offer of a few grand to strip off for Nuts.

Is it really worth it? Like in a few years having only made like 1k-10k from being someone like Lauren and then in the future for having jobs always being referred to as a BB contestant?
Doesn't seem like it can get you much work or cash in the long run.

Same with Becky. Won't this have damaged her chances of getting a mainstream acting job?

Jords 06-08-2012 02:28 AM

If they push hard and have talent there is a chance of break through, but Id say its a rare chance.

Like Locke said young 'fitties' will get a go at modelling, and depending on how popular they are, could be for a long run.

Locke. 06-08-2012 02:28 AM

Guess it depends, it'd definitely harm some of their chances but I'm sure some of the housemates from recent years have still got a good job now. Some of them probably just return to the job they had before the house aswell.

Tribal Spaceman 06-08-2012 02:28 AM

I think the only way to make money off BB these days is to have the right sort of personality for future TV projects, be it a reality show or as a presenter.

Pronshi 06-08-2012 02:30 AM

Good posts so far. I just can't bare the idea of any of the outsiders trying to do something silly like BB12 Aaron said. I just don't like the idea of any of them being that depressed from the show.

Patrick 06-08-2012 02:33 AM

Depends.
Someone like me, would go on and become big - like Jade Goody.. although I'd probably do something and wreck it for myself, like she did.

The only one from the remaining housemates that could make alot of money is Sara, if she goes full nude.

No ..... :nono:

Those days are long gone, when even an also-ran (e.g. Lea Walker, BB7) could make £3k a night for a couple of PAs a week in the months leading up to Christmas ..... :jdc:

Yeah I could see Sara And Lauren make some cash.
Kinda confused what you mean by Jade Goody character lol
Oh like you would have a book or something?

can I ask what PA work is. Like when people say that I don't know what it is.
Personal appearance or something?

Maxy 06-08-2012 12:58 PM

They will probably all make a bit of money but most of them won't be around for long, they will be forgotten in a few weeks. My hubby says the only job Becky is likely to get is to be a model for a blow up doll, that's what he thought she looked like on her eviction.

Antony Hutton BB6 winner is in todays' Daily Mail online saying he's quit showbiz to return to hairdressing and open up a salon.

Yes, they do their make-up and get paid a few grand.

alex_front2 06-08-2012 01:17 PM

You can't make a living per se, you still need a day job but it can be a nice earner if you have a niche and mass marketability. Josie BB11 winner had the 'curvy real women' schtick and gained diet DVDs, mag column, spot on C5's OK!TV etc.

This year I think Deana, Lauren and Arron will do the best with Deana the more successful.
Deana has got broad and niche appeal. There are very few young Brit-Indian celebs around given the huge contribution to UK. She won't strip (shes Sikh etc) but it's obvious loads of guys across racial lines fancy her. It's strange reading on Twitter, Facebook guys saying "never fancied an 'Indian'-bird before". Very very odd.

Arron has got loads of tarty slanty fringe teenie girls fancying him. He's bringing out a Onesie collection apparently, thought he was joking but not. Lauren is lads mag fodder.

Conor will be a local celeb in Derry (lets be honest it's not exactly a crowded market there) so he will do nightclub PAs.

Jayson 06-08-2012 01:21 PM

Doesn't Lauren have a potato farm waiting for her?

chuff me dizzy 06-08-2012 01:34 PM

No those days are long gone, only Alison and Brian still doing anything

alex_front2 06-08-2012 01:36 PM

Didn't Craig BB1 do DIY shows for a while?

I saw a 'reality TV rich list' in a trashy mag and bar Jade BB3, he was BB highest earner with GBP 6m fortune which shocked me.

exoticrosebud 06-08-2012 01:37 PM

what about imogen thingy....shes in paper alot.. or have i got the wrong show ! lol

alex_front2 06-08-2012 01:40 PM

Of course Imogen, mainly from kiss and tells and 'My fab life' 'Now I am preggers' etc. Although she couldn't really talk about Ry*n G*ggs.

She boasts about spending GBP1k on lingerie so she's not skint

This.

Withano 06-08-2012 03:11 PM

Couple hundred for being on BOTS
Couple hundred for selling a story to a magazine each time
Couple thousand for modelling
I think perfumes, other tv, and singing careers are over for good now though

I'd say 10-20k maximum.

Anthony Hatface 06-08-2012 10:19 PM

All cynicism aside, I was offered a job as soon as I got back from BBBOTS.

Granted, it was selling catalogues from a call centre, but work is work ...

:joker: That's true!

MTVN 06-08-2012 10:25 PM

If you're smart I think you can still make a good bit of cash off the back if it, obviously not as a major celeb or anything but a few grand from photoshoots, interviews, PAs etc. and it can help gain a foothold in the TV/entertainment/modelling/etc industries

Didn't Rebeckah get a 250k modelling contract last year or something, or was that bull :suspect:

hijaxers 06-08-2012 10:27 PM

Aaron last years winner has opened a bar in Weston with his pathetic Faye and he has a book coming out .That'll be thrilling

TIGHAMADAN 06-08-2012 10:29 PM

I think the days of making cash from BB are long one.Last years lot made nothing and this years wont either unless the girls strip for Nuts.

crumbling8 06-08-2012 10:41 PM

I think out of all HMs Deana will get lots of good job offers as she is diligent, versatile and has dignity and integrity. She will definitely receive lots of job offers.

Deana to WIN.............ALL the WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly - show up at a club/uni/shopping centre and spend a few hours mingling ..... ;)

Some lucky top-ranking HMs even got a pantomime spot which could mean anything between £3k and £30k for a few weeks work - Cameron (BB4) had a spot several years running .....

Quote:

Born in Seaforth, Liverpool in 1971, Craig is the younger of two children. His family moved to Shropshire in the late 1980s, and at the age of 18, whilst working for a local construction company, he secured a bricklaying apprenticeship. Determined to excel in his chosen profession, he attended night school classes in advanced brickwork and civil engineering, achieving a City & Guilds qualification. A self made entrepreneur, Craig went on to set up and run a successful construction business throughout the 1990s, employing 30 tradesmen and operating with an annual turnover of more than £1 million. Developing an impressive property portfolio, Craig also undertook a diverse range of projects including new builds and major structural conversions.

In the summer of 2000, Craig beat 45,000 applicants to appear alongside nine other contestants on Britain's first reality TV show, Big Brother. Watched by over 10 million people, Big Brother was a huge success, riveting the public and media alike. After more than nine weeks in the Big Brother house, Craig won the nation's hearts with his cheeky humour and came out triumphant with 3.7 million votes, £70,000 prize money and a National Television Award for Best Live Television Moment of the Year. Craig famously donated his entire winnings to childhood friend and Down's syndrome sufferer Joanne Harris. Within six days of leaving the show, he had raised £250,000 to pay for her life-saving heart and lung transplant.

With his new found fame, Craig went on to combine his knowledge of construction and media savvy to forge a brilliant career as one of the UK's leading DIY and home improvement experts.

Presenting and producing over 850 DIY and home improvement shows for major broadcasters including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five, Sky One, UKTV Style and Discovery Realtime, Craig has reached millions of viewers throughout Europe and as far as Korea, New Zealand and the USA.

Craig made his stage debut in 2002, playing Buttons in pantomime production Cinderella. He continues to entertain audiences across the country with his humour and personality appearing in pantomime productions of Aladdin, Jack and The Beanstalk and Beauty and the Beast

Craig is available for home and trade shows, venue openings, media appearances, event hosting, product launches, educational visits, motivational speaking, after dinner speaking, award ceremonies and more.

Sara will make a fortune for being a royal correspondent lol. Or maybe Prince Harry might want to hook up with her. She would have to dye her hair blonde though cos he only likes blondes

TBH,
They won't make that much cash even going nude. Do you think she'll get 50K to go nude?

I think it's rather pathetic that, as a woman, their biggest gig is getting naked for a few pennies.

Ashleigh is going to be on every rag that pays her in ciggies, but she's not going to last long. She has a very unattractive attitude with a voice to match.
