California passes law against trying to convert gay teens.
The Californian governor has signed off on new laws making it illegal to use psychotherapy in an effort to make gay teenagers straight.
California is the first state in the US to pass a law banning conversion therapy on anyone under 18. The state's governor, Jerry Brown, says therapies used to try to change a person's sexual orientation have no basis in science or medicine. "They will now be relegated to the dustbin of quackery," Mr Brown said on his Twitter feed, after signing the ban into law at the weekend. Gay rights activists have been battling groups that believe counselling and prayers will help teenagers rid themselves of their homosexuality, arguing the treatment can cause depression and suicide. Under the law, doctors cannot provide therapy that seeks "to change behaviours or gender expressions or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex". The law comes into effect in January. |
Not a moment too soon i say. Proud to be a Californian.

It's about time too - I was gobsmacked to read that this even happened how backward and narrow minded some people are.

California has spoken! I hope many other places follow suit!
|
Only in America can you find such madness, trying to "cure" someone of their sexuality because their parents don't agree with it.. Lol
I welcome this law it's about time these quacks were stopped getting rich on other people's prejudices...!!! |
Good news. California at the forefront of American progression as usual.

in a nation where thousands get murdered by 300 million guns , they think this issue is more important? crackers.
|
Well it's gonna be harder to clear all the gun crime out over doing something that's easier and should have been dealt with years ago.

meanwhile rather more important unresolved issues like the thousands abused and in effect killed off in care homes, hospitals, the fact we have no military hospitals, the act the Uk is bankrupt, the fact disable people still cant even access wheelchairs or even buildings in their wheelchairs, the meow meow drug craze is out of control, the police force is unfit for purpose, the media corruption, the illegal wars, corporate corruption worldwide creating war poverty famine , the melting ice caps etc etc etc this lot on here need to reassess their narrow selfish agendas. |
I agree with alot of your points The Truth, but the Governments can only do so much.
