How much is your extended family involved in your life?

Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, second cousins etc. Do you see them often? Is your house full of relatives popping in here and there? I've got a massive family but don't see too many of them. I'm close to probably three of my cousins an Uncle and an Aunt. But even then I don't see them all the time. I'm glad of that though really, I much prefer the small family unit and just seeing my cousins whenever for a drink and that.

King Gizzard 14-11-2012 10:04 PM

Only a tiny bit, they all live in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and I only see them once a year if that

King Gizzard 14-11-2012 10:05 PM

thank god I was born a southerner that's all I'm saying

GypsyGoth 14-11-2012 10:06 PM

See some of them around the likes of xmas time. I don't feel close to any of them.

You love Yorkshire really :idc: You always used to rave about Whitby

Ninastar 14-11-2012 10:08 PM

not very

I've always lived in different places to them

joeysteele 14-11-2012 10:08 PM

Seen much less oft hem since going to Uni but at Christmas and Easter I try to catch up with as many of them as I can.
They don't interfere or greatly influence my life now but I do still take notice of them a lot and even sometimes ask for their input to things in my life.

Benjamin 14-11-2012 10:08 PM

I don't even speak to my mother or sisters, not spoken to my mother in about 5 years.

Smithy 14-11-2012 10:08 PM

See my grandparents and 3 of my cousins frequently, dont speak to anyone else on my dads side and everyone on my mums side lives all over the country

King Gizzard 14-11-2012 10:09 PM

I do love a bit of Whitby, Flamborough, Filey yes

Niall 14-11-2012 10:09 PM

Quite a lot really. Well my Dad's side more so than my Mum's seeing as I live with him.

I have a huge family anyway (I have like 6 aunts/uncles on each side, don't even ask how many cousins I have omfg) so we all like to keep in touch. I'd hate having a small family.

King Gizzard 14-11-2012 10:09 PM

Lincolnshire must be the most dull place on earth though

Livia 14-11-2012 10:11 PM

I live far enough away from the buggers now that I don't have them in my life all the time. My parents live in the next cottage though, so I see them every day, which is lovely.

Princess 14-11-2012 10:15 PM

None of my family live close enough, we're close enough though, see them at least every few months at various family things, well my mum's side anyways. We only really see my dad's side at weddings and things like that.

Vicky. 14-11-2012 10:17 PM

I dont have any extended family. My mum and dad were both only children. And my grandparents siblings are long gone and didnt have kids of their own.

Marsh. 14-11-2012 10:27 PM

I see some cousins and a couple of Aunts and Uncles from my mum's side on a frequent basis because they don't live far.

But there's a couple of cousins I only see at the occasional birthday party and Christmas and we don't really have much in common. Kind of awkward.

Oh my good god... filey is my favourite place ever :)

King Gizzard 14-11-2012 10:40 PM

Haha my my mothers family is from there/she was born/raised there

MTVN 14-11-2012 11:00 PM

My distant family are all dotted around and none of them are that local so only see them about once a year really

Josy 14-11-2012 11:51 PM

A lot of my family and extended family pop in every couple of days and the house is hardly ever empty since having nephews and nieces that aren't that much younger than me means I have them popping in at all times of the day normally to say "i'm starving make us something to eat", "can I get" or "I'm staying".

Same here, only they don't live in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Shaun 14-11-2012 11:53 PM

I go to see one of my aunts usually around once a fortnight when I'm at home... other aunts and uncles usually only about twice, three times a year :( there's a lot of ill-feeling between some members of them and it's sad because there never really used to be when I was younger... but yeah, bad things happened to many people (a murder, a couple of drug addictions, divorces, etc.) and it just strained relationships I guess. I should try to make more of an effort really.

Are you cool Aunty Josy then? lol

Kizzy 14-11-2012 11:59 PM

Your family sound like mine shaun, think emmerdale on acid ...lol

Brother Leon 15-11-2012 12:01 AM

A fair bit.

One of my cousins is pretty much my brother. Been through way too much with him back when we were young and dumb. On the whole I see my extended family a fair bit. Around about December time we all go to my nan's every Saturday until Christmas. Dad slammed in the family menality to me and my brothers when we were young and it's kinda stuck with us since.

King Gizzard 15-11-2012 12:02 AM

Extremely jealous of one of my cousins who lives in Tokyo, and got another one in Seattle who married a multi millionaires daughter so yeah

Mystic Mock 15-11-2012 12:03 AM

The one from Tokyo's got a hot Japanese girlfriend hasn't he Nathan?

The world can be cruel sometimes lol.

Novo 15-11-2012 01:13 AM

Are you from Albert Square? Or Hollyoaks Village?

Jords 15-11-2012 02:27 AM

Ammi 15-11-2012 04:01 AM

..I have a huge extended family..my dad was one of 14 children..my mum was one of 9...they're scattered in every corner of the world..I couldn't possibly keep track of them...I'm probably related to most people I meet...

...my OH was born near Filey btw..as a child he used to holiday there most years...a very popular place by the sound of it...

Niamh. 15-11-2012 09:43 AM

I only really see aunts/uncles/cousins at events like weddings or funerals. I am very close to my brothers though and I think my kids will see more of their aunts/uncles/cousins then I did

CharlieO 15-11-2012 09:59 AM

None at all. My immediate family isn't even really

Z 15-11-2012 05:45 PM

Not at all. Family feuds pretty much killed off all family contact. One of my cousins was in my year at school and we're in the same group of friends but because our families don't speak I don't even consider him family, just as a friend. Also when I was on holiday last year in Corfu, I bumped into another cousin of mine in the airport there waiting to fly back, first time I'd seen her in over 5 years and it's in a Greek airport. Weird!

AnnieK 15-11-2012 06:31 PM

I only have a fairly small family. My mum was an only one and dad had one brother. I hardly see my brother either as he lives down south and works away a lot. Don't really see my cousins even though they live around 20 mins away....just get texts from time to time. should make more of an effort really but like others on here there was a big family bust up years ago and everyone drifted..shame

Me. I Am Salman 15-11-2012 06:34 PM

Most live in London/outskirts so yes.

Me. I Am Salman 15-11-2012 06:37 PM

I have one aunt though who moved to Oman about 12 years ago with her husband and her kids were born there. Last time I saw her was when I was really young and I've never met those cousins.
