no comparism to springsteen, U2, mccartney etc

Im no music expert all her songs sound the same to me, or at least very similar and very unmemorable

Smithy 05-02-2013 02:14 PM

The setlist wasn't brilliant, but the performance was

MeMyselfAndI 05-02-2013 02:16 PM

springsteen, U2, mccartney etc are no comparison to Beyonce

by performance Im interpeeting that to mean the flashing lights and choreography, because her songs are hopelessly bland , she wads probably lyp sinking again and her dancing is totally predictable too

shes ok but shes not all that

Black Dagger 05-02-2013 02:23 PM

U2, Paul, Springsteen > Beyonce.

But the performance wasn't bad, some of the song choices were like 'WHY GURL WHY?' but it was decent.

Brother Leon 05-02-2013 02:35 PM

Yeah. Crazy In love and Halo are carbon copies...

She was a lot better than Madonna and Black Eyed Peas who were the last two..

the truth 05-02-2013 02:41 PM

it was mind numbingly boring, behind the flash and the glitz there was nothing, like so many things all style and no substance.
if we could forego this materialistic glitz for 5 minutes and pretending to all be so hip, maybe we could invite the greatest song writer of all time. yes old father time himself, bob dylan....if he declined, theres always bowie, billy joel, noel gallacher, elton john, paul weller, dire straits, even adele would be good as she at least has a great voice and some quality songs...is it just coincidence theyre al brits?

Locke. 05-02-2013 02:46 PM

Her slower songs are great, can't be bothered with the uptempo stuff though.

Brother Leon 05-02-2013 02:47 PM

It's the superbowl...half those names would put the viewers to sleep and miss the second half.

I disagree...not everyone has attention deficit disorder, YET

Munchkins 05-02-2013 02:53 PM

Most the people watching the Superbowl just want a quick show with the glitz etc and then to watch the 2nd half. Lol at coming out with all this they should of got great songwriters stance. Wouldn't make a difference to the people watching and I wager people enjoyed Beyonce more than they would of enjoyed any of the names you mentioned.

Tom4784 05-02-2013 02:55 PM

agreed....whereas some of the legends I listed, who brother leon insists would send us all to sleep, still have a catalogue of fantastic songs everyone loves to listen to, heck adeles biggest hit is a bob dylan b list song he wrote decades ago lol (the best music today were leftovers at bob dylans table years ago lol) but that was when music wasnt owned by one bore called simon cowell and it actually meant something, in fact it meant everything

give me piano man or rocket man or blowing in the wind , over this innane background noise

Don't bring the ADHD kids into this :nono:

Maybe you're too old to appreciate modern music?

Stu 05-02-2013 03:05 PM

Are you going against the grain on purpose? I mean the overhype of Beyonce as some fierce pop deity baffles me to no end and I love all the acts you mentioned but Paul Weller doing the Superbowl halftime?

The world doesn't work like that. Yeah it's all style and no substance at the top of the mainstream. So just ignore it and don't hang out there.

I'm 22 and plenty of people my age are of the opinion that it sucks dick as well, so that's hardly relevant.

Most ardent pop followers who purchase singles and put posters on their walls are young teens. If anything even 22 is too old to be caught up in chart fandom. It seems like a bit of a kids thing a lot of the time.

Glenn. 05-02-2013 03:07 PM

Vocally the performance was outstanding :idc:

why not? adults and kids have it? dont be so precious. kids have to face endless barrages of this materialism and endless ads promotions and peer pressure which in turn puts pressure on the parents to afford all this designer nonsense, whether its music or fashion. were enslaved to this as they target kids young. oh and dont be so ageist (im only 30):nono:

Gstar 05-02-2013 03:26 PM

I don't think you have the right to say all of Beyonce's songs sound the same, from your post you obviously haven't listened to all her albums and she is a very talented woman who writes a lot of her stuff.

Also, Beyonce is an R&B artist so all of her songs will have that R&B element to it so maybe that is what you mean? I know it's all about being versatile nowadays but Beyonce has always been R&B and that's not gonna change anytime soon, she's not gonna release a club banger with Pitbull just to get a top 10 hit.

no genuine opinions...as for weller I agree hes an outside bet but the others are bona fide world wide legends....(though weller would do an awesome job, especially if he did a few hits from the greatest mod band ever, the incomparable the jam) whilst many wouldnt know him well stateside, once he sang some jam hits theyd soon be won over.

armand.kay 05-02-2013 03:31 PM

You probably haven't even listened to a album to :idc:.

Havent got the right to say an opinion on beyonces music, eh?

they all sound very smiliar to me and very bland and unmemorable music....I have 25 000 songs on my ipod and shes not one of them....i listen to bowling for soup more than beyonce...shes just spectacularly bland imo

Gstar 05-02-2013 03:35 PM

You could voice your opinion by all means, but it looks like you genuinely dislike her and her music and you're coming across as ignorant

so are you. youre being disingenuous by saying I dislike her, I dont know her, I just find her music mind numbingly dull. I shouldnt have to repeat the same opinion 4 times for you to understand it.

armand.kay 05-02-2013 03:45 PM

Germyle I love your sig

armand.kay 05-02-2013 03:46 PM

Gstar 05-02-2013 03:51 PM

@armand Thanks! I was about to say the same thing to you, Zoanette is flawless.

@the truth How am I being ignorant? You said all her music sounds the same when you clearly haven't listened to all her music.

Youve name called me by labelling me arrogant, totally unnecessary personal attack. all the music Ive heard of hers sounds very much the same and all of it bland., Ive explained the same thing 5 times, this is getting very dull. please stop asking me to re say the same thing. I dont rate her music at all. clearly youre a fan and youve taken my dislike of her music persoanlly and used it as an excuse to insult me which is out of order:nono:

Gstar 05-02-2013 07:35 PM

Personal attack? I said you're coming across as arrogant so don't get it twisted; that's not name calling. I'm not telling you what to say I was just letting you know that your thread didn't make sense IMO.

And as far as insulting you....

I honestly cannot listen to her voice for more than 5 seconds. But voice aside, I do find her songs all dull and samey.

First off, LOL at the title. Try to pinpoint the similarities between "Irreplaceable" and "Run the World (Girls)", please.

Secondly, I wasn't that blown away by the performance either. In all honesty I preferred Madonna's show, there was more of a spectacle about it. And I don't think Beyonce really silenced that many critics of her vocal ability either - she didn't sing for most of Crazy in Love, Single Ladies or End of Time.

That said, saying she's a bad singer is pretty laughable. Live performances of the likes of Halo, Listen, I Was Here - and the press conference where she sang the Star Spangled Banner - pretty much writes that off entirely.

The appeal with Beyonce totally lies with her 'ferocity' and I completely understand why people don't really give a toss about that. But she can dance, she can put on a show, she can sing. Give me her (performing live - obviously Paul is part of the greatest music act of all time) over McCartney gradually getting hoarser with 'Hey Jude' any day.

her songs are dull as dishwater, totally unmemorable, as I say they all sound the same to me too....her voice is totaly forgettable and looking wise shes no better looking than many other women...seems to me she got lucky and has the biggest management behind her promoting her to the high heavens....
just so forgettable

as for having a go at macca, do me a favour, hes 110 years old, but the beatles are the biggest selling artists of all time, you could take the entire top 50 acts in america and hes had more hits than the lot of them combined...though Ill agree with u on one point, lets get a variation on hey jude please paul
