Cheese on toast.

Is there anything more lovely in this world, than biting down on some melted gooey perfection covered in black pepper?

The only thing left to decide is whether or not you toast both sides before adding the cheese, or just one side. This question has been plaguing man since the dawn of time, so it's time for it to be definitively answered.

Marcus. 28-02-2013 01:10 PM

oh cheese on toast is lush

A cheese thread :)

OMG! Cheese with anything is heavenly, and with pepper or mustard, just yum. Cheese and tomato pizzas are the best meal ever. I could live on them.

Niamh. 28-02-2013 01:17 PM

Cheeeeeeeeeeeeese mmmmmm, I have to toast both sides first

Jesus. 28-02-2013 01:21 PM

Then you need to vote wrong, Niamh.

Jordan. 28-02-2013 01:22 PM

Toast both sides of course. I don't want no soggy bottom.

Jesus. 28-02-2013 01:23 PM

That's not what it says on the toilet walls, Jords. :idc:

Suze 28-02-2013 01:28 PM

I am getting a bit peckish now, so I am going to do some cheese on toast covered in black pepper :)

Ammi 28-02-2013 03:57 PM

Niall 28-02-2013 04:05 PM

It's even better when you get two slices of bread, make a cheese sandwich with it, butter the outsides and fry it. Then you have the perfect crunchy gooey sandwich.

Apple202 28-02-2013 04:24 PM

Apple202 28-02-2013 04:25 PM

Josy 28-02-2013 05:47 PM

Sorry but it's called Roasted Cheese. :idc:

And I only toast one side.

Marc 28-02-2013 05:48 PM

Just the one side... then put cheese on the other and grill.

People actually toast both sides?.. What is this madness?

Marc 28-02-2013 05:49 PM

I like toasted cheese sandwiches, but only once in a while. I don't think cheese is that good for one.

SharkAttack 28-02-2013 10:24 PM

What kind(s) of cheese are people using?

..I don't fry it but I butter the outsides as well and put it in the sandwich toaster..so I think we're of 'one heart' here Niall.......

..EDIT:..oh and if you kind of gently 'flake' the bread a bit first..you get lots of those crunchy flakey bits...

Oh, that is a good one! I'm currently trying a bunch of new cheeses, from all over the world. Found a gruyere that was slightly blissful, and had a few sharp cheddar types that were also very good. Wish I could pinpoint just one for you!

The typical "grilled cheese" that we make here, not the fancier ones that use good bread and over-the-top cheese, but the common grilled cheese: Usually, it's two buttered up squares(both sides) of plain white bread lightly fried on both sides, cheese is usually Kraft American, and can be served with a bowl of tomato soup for dipping. It's not bad if done correctly, but you can feel your heart beating more slowly with each bite. Some I know add a slight veneer of mayonnaise on one side to give it an extra creaminess. :joker:

I've used a recipe similar to this but with a good Swiss and multi-grain wheat, with the tomato soup, and it was outstanding. It's cheese, bread, and butter, what's not to like?! :spin:

That's a compromise I'd be willing to accept. Nothing beats gooey cheese.
