Why do some people dislike Dan for being intelligent?
 

I know the thick Housemates are usually more popular cuz their fick innit.


But why do people seem to actually dislike Dan for being clever? Yes it's annoying that he seems to know everything but it's not something that people should evict him for over Sam and Sophie imo.

he's pretty smart but not that clever

He questions so many things that happen in the house, of course he is going to be right once or twice. He has gotten about 50 + things wrong, and two or three things right. Not really great results

I don't dislike him for being intelligent. I do blame him for the lack of common sense to keep his cards close to the vest. He has no idea if he's guessing things that will lose a task. He also has no appreciation for how sharing that kind of info hurts him in the house.

He's more interested in showing off than he is in getting ahead, and it ends up with him having pouty strops like he's done last night and again today over his place in the pecking order. Instead of telling everyone "this is what's going on, so change your behavior accordingly" he'd do better to figure things out, act on his own, and let everyone else hang themselves or figure it out as natural selection has given them the ability to do so.

5 GCSE's grade c and above was all he needed. He's made guesses about every single thing that's happened in the house, he'll get some right.

I totally agree. I find it quite bizarre when people complain about him sussing things out. If their fav was doing it, it would be wonderful. ;)

Even if he was a genius, he'd still have flaws in his personality. Why do people think he's clever? He's not.

And at least Dan shows his flaws unlike Sophie who tries so hard to hide her cruelty it's unbelievable, plus she's treating the public like idiots, don't prove her right.

I think Dan is perceptive, shrewd, funny and intelligent. And he SHOULD win!!!.

I don't really see him as that intelligent, he's just suspicious of everything. All of his conversations are idle gossip, he's not really that interesting and doesn't display any interests.

It's this misconception of Dan that does my head in. He scatterguesses about everything on a show called...wait for it...secrets and lies. Wow - he must be super-intelligent to work out secrets and lies will be told through the course of the program.

100% right, it is amazing the attacks on him,I admit he has flaws, they all do as I do too.
Every single one of his though becomes major event and thread on here.
He doesn't like Callum,he gets slammed for that, Dexter belittles Callum every chance he gets but is a hero for it.

Sophie is quite selfish, okay when she gets her own way, you can though easily see the nastier side when she is displeased at even the smallest of things.
Yet, being so dull and inactive, she would be preferred to support and stay if it got Dan out.

You have hardly been on here through this series and have worked that out already, you and Dan would make a pretty good pair.:hugesmile:

It doesn't matter if he's figuring it out or wild-ass guessing. Either way he needs to keep it to himself.

Why, I for one and it would seem a good few others enjoy hearing his suspicions. At least he is saying and doing something.

It sort of means there is no intelligence involved if your guessing.

he is quite smart as far as ppl are concerned i like him for it. though sometimes he should learn to not say everything he thinks. thats his biggest downfall

I agree completely with that,fair comment.

Then he should report them to the DR. If this had been a previous season, he'd be failing tasks for other housemates daily with his constant suspicions.

quite agree with the comments about dan we're not saying he is perfect as a viewer I would much rather watch him then sophie I think is not everyone cup tea but he is loyal look how he is with hazel when Charlie was getting to callem he stuck up for him like him or loath him good hm

I don't think people dislike Dan for being intelligent. More that he's whiney and self-involved.

I can honestly say I have never noticed anyone say they dislike Dan for being intelligent.

I don't care how intelligent or stupid a housemate is. I've liked housemates such as 'the dumb people' like Alex (BB12) and Jade (BB3), right through to the more intelligent housemates like Science (BB6) and Stu (BB5).


And in terms of intelligence, Dan is not that intelligent, he's about average.

He is only intelligent in terms of the other HMs. Which, let's face it, isn't hard! Lol! ;)

Absolutely.... people feel threatened by it and think he is just trying to be clever. Instead of keeping his opinions to himself he speaks his mind saying exactly what he and feels.... showing he is not fake and wears his heart on his sleeve....Love him for that....Dan to win.:dance::dance::dance:

There is being intelligent and then there is being patronizing and wishful thinking.

There is being patronising...and there is being someone open and honest about their thoughts and feelings around many who are too scared to express them.... then there are those who are too thick to have seen things that more intelligent people do... that doesnt make him patronising.

More paranoid than patronising.

There is a point where honest opinion becomes plain rudeness. Children learn to hold their tongues because it's not acceptable to tell people what we think of them in most situations. Being opinionated is not the same as being intelligent and can, in fact be very annoying and boring.

In general people of higher intelligence are disliked by people of lesser intelligence. It's a complex situation involving jealousy, lack of trust and the "ficker" people projecting their own insecurities onto the "smarter" person.

I'd say the average IQ on these boards wouldn't be too sky high(plus from a lot of the posts I have read over the last few months I would say that average age of posters here is quite young), so that kind of tracks with the general Dan hate I have seen here.

Add to that he is an ex-cop and the general predilection amongst younger people for not liking police officers(or outright being young thugs and hoodlums themselves who may have had negative experiences with the police)and it's a perfect storm of negativity towards Dan.
