The 5-2 thread

Anyone tried this diet? I have a couple of times, it's hard but something I think you get used to when you have a few dishes down that fit in with the calorie restrictions.

Also called the fast diet it was made popular following a BBC documentary Horizon presented by Dr Micheal Mosely.

The focus is on intermittent fasting, for 2 days a week (non consecutive) you restrict your calorie intake to 600 cals for men and 500 for women.

Sounds easy... It isn't, but I'm having another go.
Anyone else willing to give it a go?

5 to 2 are the odds on it not working.

Josy 05-09-2013 06:16 AM

I think Vicky and Lee are doing this atm.

Kazanne 05-09-2013 10:58 PM

it DOES work,I know someone who's done it,but it IS a matter of will power.Go On Kiz you can do it.

Nemo123 05-09-2013 10:58 PM

"600 cals for men and 500 for women",
the norm is 2,500 and 2000 respectively.

Thanks kaz, think it is something you get used to should have stuck with it before heard nothing but good things about it :D

I know what the 'norm' is but who set the norm and is it not good to challenge it if there's a better way?....

You do eat, you eat a quarter of your usual intake is all. :)

Samuel. 05-09-2013 11:53 PM

The guy in the video doesn't sound overly healthy, gasping before every sentence :suspect:

It does sound interesting though.

I did this last year and it works well - it's quite fun too trying to think up how to get the most on your 500 cal fasting days, you can come up with some very inventive dishes.

It doesn't do the body ant harm to lay off so much food for a couple of days.if people are sensible with it,it's fine.

Kizzy 06-09-2013 02:23 PM

True and I haven't seen any reports of adverse effects after a day, longer would obviously. found some juice recipes that will be great for fast days, are you having a go kaz?

Vicky. 06-09-2013 02:47 PM

Started this a few days ago. Lost 2 lbs on my fast day, but it was probably just water

From reading about, seems it works, and works well. Hope so :p

Lee. 06-09-2013 03:34 PM

I was talking to a customer who has just lost 3 and a half stones on this diet.. He said he was exercising too though.

Hi Kizzy I lost just over a stone but then was taken into hospital (not diet related I might add) so had to stop doing it :(

My favourite recipe was steam lots of veg then flash fry them in olive oil with garlic and chinese 5 spice and add a few noodles comes out to around 250 - 300 cals depending on the veg!!

Kizzy 06-09-2013 04:47 PM

Over 3st lee wow, wonder how long that took? I love stir fry so this is going to be easy :)

Kizzy 10-09-2013 04:17 PM

I'm fasting today, Had a bowl of organic oats and a splosh of milk, Having 2 boiled eggs and some veg for tea.

Kizzy 10-09-2013 10:34 PM

Kizzy 14-09-2013 12:45 PM

Lee. 14-09-2013 12:47 PM

Yep, it's recommended really and thanks! :)

Kizzy 15-09-2013 12:33 PM

I'm fasting again tomorrow, actually looking forward to it was very naughty fri/sat had some choc/crisps made sure I didn't go over 2000 cal though, no point eating 500 cal one day then 3000 the next is there?

Having turkey stir fry with brown fine rice noodles, 5 spice and soy sauce.

Kizzy 16-09-2013 03:59 PM

Not feeling too bad actually, had 2 pints of tea though think I might have cracked this, will have my 500 cal meal about 6ish.

Josy 16-09-2013 04:22 PM

Well done on the lbs lost Kizzy.

Wouldn't you easily lose 6lbs in a months timeframe if you were counting calories though anyway? just wondering if there's any point to the actual fast days...

Kizzy 17-09-2013 12:42 AM

maybe, but I hate counting calories tried it for years and I just feel like i'm depriving myself, at lest with this as long as you stay within the 2000 for 5 days you can eat whatever :D
Bacon and eggs for brekkers I think haha!

Until he's in again asking for a refund when the diet finishes and he piles it all back on. :joker: (ie. the Natalie Cassidy diet).

Kizzy 20-09-2013 12:02 AM

Another 2lb off, not as dramatic as I'd hoped but with the cruddy weather havent been out with the dog as much or as long, will step that up and fast again mon.

x-evenstar-x 29-09-2013 05:37 PM

Are you still doing this Kizzy? How you getting on? I'm doing slimming world and I love it but I'm getting a bit fed up of eating the same sort of things all the time :-( lol

Kizzy 29-09-2013 05:50 PM

That's so weird! I'm fasting today actually :) had a banana so far, going to have a tuna salad soon and a few almonds.
I got bored on diets too, there's just something psychologically draining about being on a 'diet' lol.
The batteries went in the wii fit so can't weigh myself but will find out what I've lost on the 1st (decided to log weight once a month till I reach goal)
Is slimming world good?

x-evenstar-x 29-09-2013 05:53 PM

How funny lol. Good luck for yor weigh in  I'm sure you will have done great!

Slimming world is amazing! Just hard work and expensive! I've lost 12lbs in 5 weeks, my mum has lost 16lbs and my sister 14lbs. Needless to say I've cheated way more than they have haha.

Is it hard on the fasting days?

Samm 29-09-2013 08:03 PM

I might to this

Thankyou :)
Why is it expensive, do you have to go to meetings?
those losses are really impressive though! :D
Yes at first... you have to get used to feeling hungry haha, but 500 cals is a lot IF you eat the right things.
It's not for everyone but it works for me, have a look at the website.
