What are your controversial music opinions

my biggest one is probably that the 00s is the best decade for music (followed by the 90s) and that the 10s are better than the 60s, 70s & 80s

I find Coldplay and Metallica crazy overated

I don't think Jay Z has ever been anything above average.

Mumford & Sons are a dire, tinny sounding, glorified wedding band.

Late 90's progressive trance is cheesy but it's also amazing. And pop today seems to be built on the supersaw waveforms and build up breakdown structures it popularised. Gatecrashers 4eva.

I also listen to and enjoy the above whilst not using Ecstasy.

Pitbull is amazing. I saw some of his set at Oxegen and he is the best kind of cheese. He keeps speaking Spanish and I'm not sure if he can.

Classical music bores me. I've tried and I respect it but I would never sit down and devote time to listening to it again.

Artic Monkeys are too loud and totally totally beyond boring.

I don't really mind the massive pop dance infection on the charts these days. Give me Swedish House Mafia over Ne-Yo and the parade of by the numbers RnB wallpaper.

Eric Clapton puts me to sleep. So do most of the 70's dinosaur rock acts. It really was a terrible decade for music.

Everything post Funeral has been a dirty, dull trudge through their English influences. Listening to Neon Bible is a bit like walking through a spook house with all the actors removed [odd highs like Intervention aside].

I like funeral and neon bible, suburbs sucks

The 00s are my growing up years so they'll always hold something above the 60s/70s/80s

Dance music today is so uninspiring, it all sounds the same.

Coldplay got lucky with timing, they are not anything above average.

Arctic Monkey's and Eminem stopped being good a long time ago.

I don't get the love for Jessie J, she is awful.

I found it hilarious when everyone balked at Jedward covering Blink 182. Because they're only Jedward. And also ... they're only Blink 182.

- I don't care for Led Zeppelin.
- I like a few Chris Brown songs (Superhuman, 4 Years Old, I Can Transform Ya)
- I prefer conceptual/experimental classical to pre-1800's classical
- I don't think Eminem would be as successful if he wasn't white
- 90's music isn't that bad... if you look in the right places

99% of Metal is awful and cheesy and it's only cool when you are 13. I have a burning hatred for ardent metalheads.

I can't think of anything else. I know there's more though.

Metal is one of the hardest musics to play though, it requires more skill to get everything in sync than nearly all music, so in that respect, it doesn't get enough respect/praise

and also to hate metal isn't particularly controversial Lol outside of those who love it, nearly everyone hates it

It's a good point. Black metal has some of the most insanely genius, virtually unknown guitar players in the world. And growling is a total strain on the vocal chords and not something anyone can do [someone like a Dani Filth is incredible] but it's the weird pre pubescentness of it all that's a bit of an odd one.

I love Cradle Of Filth but I think that's about it. I love Manson too and whatnot but that falls into more of an industrial tinged, poppy, transgressive Venn diagram [my favourite of Venn's].

Adults who are persistently into bands like Bullet For My Valentine, AX7 and Trivium ... I mean there is something sorta underdeveloped going on there.

Also most metal songs are persistently about nothing in exactly the same way as a lot of the pop they get so up in their tits about is about nothing. They're like rhyming David Gemmel books with no emotional narrative.

Oh yeah Slipknot are fantastic too obviously. But they have charm and an image and poppy hooks. They're just total chaos.

I respect the technical side of metal but in the same way I respect bottles of acid. Don't want either pouring into my ears.

I like some metal but most of it is just cheesy and cheese without self awareness is unbearable.

Nay ... unaware cheese is the best. Self aware cheese leads to manufactured craziness like the Fast Food Rockers.
