Which current pop acts will & won't be remembered in 20 years time?

Rihanna, Beyonce, Eminem, P!nk, Justin Timberlake, Britney and Christina for sure. I guess Gaga, Bieber and One Direction would be too

Won't: Probs Katy and Ke$ha

Saph 04-01-2014 01:06 AM

do you mean successful as well or just remembered?

Me. I Am Salman 04-01-2014 01:09 AM

idk um

Saph 04-01-2014 01:11 AM

ok well anyway ia with what you said

kesha is barely remembered now (no shade) so no way will she be in 20 years time, and Katy doesnt strike me as having the staying power

I dont think Pink will be remembered either, idk why

Saph 04-01-2014 01:11 AM

maybe not christina either

Amy Jade 04-01-2014 01:12 AM

Justin Bieber won't be remembered I don't think.

Saph 04-01-2014 01:12 AM

i'll always remember the Stripped era though, at my funeral I want the dress code to be the outfit from the Dirrty MV

Saph 04-01-2014 01:12 AM

The ones with staying power are the ones with hit songs and a gigantic media presence that has been built up over years. Justin Bieber and One Direction are of-the-moment heart throbs. Kids 20 years from now aren't going to give a **** about them. Genuine stars like Beyoncé will always be in the media, much like Madonna now. Britney Spears for sure - she's been musically terrible for the best part of a decade and she's still an A-list celebrity. Rihanna probably, she'll age well I think, and I'm sure Christina Aguilera will still be desperately chasing headlines trying to prove she's better than Britney despite always being better than her.......

Anyone from X Factor or BGT. :idc:

You have to remember that the media moves on really quickly, people become yesterday's news without us even realising it until they're suddenly considered has-beens. Only the most famous stars nowadays will be "remembered" in 20 years time, in the way that Elton John or Madonna are now. Plenty of current artists will still have careers in 20 years' time, but they'll only be remembered by people in our generation. The teenagers of 2034 won't care about the people we care about; they'll only know the people who are so famous that the media will never forget them... Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Rihanna... the kinds of people who are always in the media for the slightest little thing that they do. Rihanna gets news stories about posts she makes on Instagram; of course she's going to be in the news 20 years from now (unless she passes away unexpectedly) because she's someone who attracts attention. British popstars generally get thrown to the kerb and we'll maybe hear from them every now and then on some reality TV show.

This.

Brother Leon 04-01-2014 02:29 AM

Eminem
Jay Z
Kanye

Those three will go down as some great rappers, whether they are or not their status has earned it. Especially Jay Z as he became a whole lot more than a Rapper and is pretty much the ultimate Rags to Riches Story for Hood kids.

Beyonce
Madonna
Britney?
If 1D continue they may have the whole "look how crazy the world went for them back then" thing.

lol at Leona being remembered in 20 years. C'mon.

Mystic Mock 04-01-2014 04:43 AM

Remembered in 20 years time:
1. Eminem (if we count him as Pop)
2. One Direction (just for the craze they've received)
3. Pink
4. Leona Lewis (for Bleeding Love and Run mainly)
5. Adele

Not remembered in 20 years time:
1. Katy Perry
2. The Saturdays
3. The Wanted
4. Little Mix
5. Olly Murs
6. Rihanna
7. Lady Gaga

Btw I like some of the singers on the not remembered list of mine, but I can't see their Music being played in 20 years time on many lists or anything.

Ammi 04-01-2014 05:25 AM

..it's really impossible to say because Madonna was just a flash in the pan pop princess...yeah, she didn't amount to much....

Amy Jade 04-01-2014 06:00 AM

Leona will be remembered.

She's one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) singers to come out of any singing Reality shows.

Samm 04-01-2014 10:58 AM

Jessie J would be forgotten, like she was most of 2013

MeMyselfAndI 04-01-2014 11:02 AM

Taylor Swift obv, America has been crazy about her for 5 years now

Niall 04-01-2014 11:13 AM

I'm not so sure if P!nk will be remembered as such. Granted she's had a fairly large amount of big songs but she only just manages to stay on the radar at the best of times imo.

Other than that I agree with what Salman said in the OP. Especially Katy, she has the talent of a turnip.

Leona Lewis winning a TV talent show won't keep her in the papers 20 years from now... she's barely getting a look in nowadays, the X Factor won't last forever, it'll come to an end one day and with it will go all those primetime TV promo slots that X Factor alumni rely on to sell their songs. There aren't likely to be any British popstars who are remembered in 20 years, as things currently are, because only well publicised solo artists with interesting personal lives will be remembered, or artists who are at the very top of the pile in their field of music. Britain doesn't have anyone like that. I agree with Jay Z, Kanye and Eminem. Jay Z/Beyoncé are a power couple. I think Justin Timberlake will probably be remembered too - as much as I thought his musical comeback was crap, the fact it was such a success shows that he can dip in and out of music and still be a success unlike many other artists who have stopped making music.

Katy Perry will probably be remembered if she ends up marrying someone on her level of fame. Beyoncé's best career move was going out with Jay Z, what would that Crazy In Love music video have been if it wasn't for their chemistry and people's interest in their private life? Britney and Rihanna will be.

The OP doesn't really specify what is meant by "remembered" - we'll remember the people we like now because we're fans of them so that's obviously not the question being asked. By remembered, I'm taking that to mean "who will still be getting media headlines in 20 years' time" - which is why only the most talked about American popstars will be around, because they command that level of power in the media that doesn't just go away overnight.

Who is Khia ? I've seen the lots on the forum. But have no idea who it is
