King of R&B?

No Marvin Gaye/Luther Vandross suggestions please, someone who isn't ancient and of this generation

Usher imo :worship:

Brother Leon 20-01-2014 01:19 AM

It's obviously R Kelly.

Gstar 20-01-2014 01:21 AM

I don't know, there's so many but R Kelly and Usher are definitely up there

Drew. 20-01-2014 01:21 AM

R Kelly, Usher, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo,, Don't really have a particular favourite though

Shaun 20-01-2014 01:21 AM

Prince

I agree with Ne-Yo, In My Own Words, Because of You & Year of the Gentleman are amazing

Z 20-01-2014 01:24 AM

Usher or R Kelly in terms of current artists, the only two with any real staying power.

Yeah i'm going with Chris Brown and Ne-yo based on their older music, both produced good songs.

reece(: 20-01-2014 01:28 AM

Agree with Ne-Yo, Sexy Love and Because Of You are iconic

Z 20-01-2014 01:28 AM

There ought to be a review every decade of who was the king/queen of each popular music genre in the previous ten years because as great as I'm sure Madonna was at the time, she's not like an actual monarch, she's not the Queen of Pop until she dies :idc:

Me. I Am Salman 20-01-2014 01:31 AM

Rihanna is quite clearly the current queen of pop and anyone who denies if is quite frankly lying to themselves

Me. I Am Salman 20-01-2014 01:31 AM

I think I just said an oxymoron

Gstar 20-01-2014 01:32 AM

yes and changed the topic of the thread like you always do

More talent in his little finger than Usher, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown combined, lets be honest :idc:

Shaun 20-01-2014 02:11 AM

although of the current generation, Usher obviously

Roy Mars III 20-01-2014 02:13 AM

No one comes near Prince.

R. Kelly was good in his earlier days.

Usher is a hack

Z 20-01-2014 02:18 AM

I'd say Michael Jackson is still the King of Pop because there honestly haven't been any globally successful male popstars since Justin Timberlake who aborted his career for no apparent reason. Every other major male solo artist I can think of just doesn't belong to pop.

Roy Mars III 20-01-2014 02:19 AM

Timberlake is a better actor then he is artist. He made the right choice

I didn't rate his comeback at all, I'm assuming there won't be a follow up to it in the immediate future, just seemed like he got bored and decided to make an album one day and it just sounds like an extension of his last album to me, from what I heard of the new one.

Shaun 20-01-2014 02:21 AM

i'm not really a fan of the whole "let's give this title to someone else now" movement

MJ will always be king, Elvis will always be THE king, Madonna will always be queen. There're other titles that can be given to Britney or whoever's still dancing about in ten years time.

Aside from Mirrors he just didn't seem to bother promoting it at all, especially the second half of the album. Even then it was only really a performance at The Brit's I remember him doing. He just didn't seem to care too much. Mind you, aside from Take Back The Night and maybe a couple of other songs, there wasn't much to promote.

R. Kelly.

Usher would be a contender but about 3 of his albums have been pop. Plus his voice is only about 13% as strong as R's

No body in the history of music plays better Rhythm and Blues music than The Rolling Stones.
