The riots were a case of opportunistic theft that has been encouraged by excessive consumerism. This is what happens when you teach people to value having expensive material goods - if they find themselves in an opportune situation, they're going to make the most of it. Especially if they already have very little wealth or possessions anyway.

The only people that should have been prosecuted were those who torched family-run businesses, that is unexplainable and disgusting.

The riots were crime, by low rent oiks with no stable family life and no father figure. They got jailed as they deserved.
