Bands/Artists that you're supposed to like but don't!

Basically what the title says..

You always get someone that says 'what do you mean you don't like *random name* everyone likes them'

Kizzy 31-05-2014 04:30 PM

I don't know how the vamps have got so big so quick... they're crap

I agree...a girl at work told me she loves them, I didn't speak to her for four hours to shame her

Z 31-05-2014 05:03 PM

Lily Allen :umm2: I feel like there's this expectation that if I'm clever enough to understand her tongue in cheek style, I must therefore appreciate it - but I don't. I think she's a dick. A lady dick.

Drew. 31-05-2014 05:03 PM

Madonna

LaLaLand 31-05-2014 05:04 PM

Ed Sheeran and Emeli Sande spring to mind.

lily Allen and Sam smith

Z 31-05-2014 05:10 PM

Also think John Lennon is savagely overrated as a solo artist and perhaps his role in the Beatles is a bit overstated as well.

Well said.

For me, Eminem. Not a big fan. I haven't got any of his albums and I don't think I've heard one of them all the way thru.

I agree, it's more "dick in mouth".

Then again, I've never though of Lily Allen as one of those artists loved by everyone and you are looked at weird when you don't.

LaLaLand 31-05-2014 05:11 PM

Omg The Beatles of course, and Bowie.

Marsh. 31-05-2014 05:12 PM

Paul McCartney.

I just can't like him. If he sings Hey Jude I want to slit my wrists.

I agree with this actually

he just shouts I don't get his appeal

Z 31-05-2014 05:18 PM

Oh actually Mariah Carey's another one. It's the same reason I don't really get Jessie J (obviously she's not really eligible for this thread either but anyway) - I don't care how many ridiculous notes she can technically hit, when it comes down to it I just don't think very much of her musical output and I don't like her personality or attitude.

:worship:

Squealing out of your range does not make any music nicer to listen to. I quite like Jessie J's voice when it's normal but when she starts having spasms and making stupid noises I just want to slap her.

Ugh so much. Sam Smith is the same - quite like his voice until he goes all high pitched and then I find it genuinely painful to listen to

i would hardly call him overated. he is one of the rare ones that deserves the praise. he is out there on his own really with his style. especially lyrically. dont have to like him but nah at overated.

Vicky. 31-05-2014 05:30 PM

Beatles, Elvis, Whitney, Amy Winehouse. Loads more but those come to my head first

He is very overrated, I'm not Mariah Carey's biggest fan but she summed him up here

Brother Leon 31-05-2014 05:31 PM

Madonna,Amy Winehouse most definitely too.

I agree with these 3 also Madonna, Beyonce (not sure if everyone likes her though) and The Rolling Stones

GiRTh 31-05-2014 05:37 PM

I think its a bit unfair to list an artist who was before you were born. Lennon was the most quotable Beatle, Elvis opened the doors for others etc. IF you weren't around its easy to say its overrated without witnessing the impact their music had. Just my personal opinion.

Marsh. 31-05-2014 05:37 PM

Oh yes, Beyonce's another one. Do not get the fuss at all.

Good singer with mediocre songs is suddenly so big? She's Cheryl Cole with a better voice to me.

Hmm you can dislike a band or artist without denying they had a big impact on the music scene though..

The thread is basically asking who you dislike that others think you should like.

smeagol 31-05-2014 05:44 PM

not sure there's any i'm susposed to like. ive always just played anything regardless of whats cool or whats considerd great in or out. etc

There is tons that i just dont get. jay z , kayne west. pink floyd to name but 3.
beyonce is crap most annoying music with no melody ive ever heard. but no one i know would tell me to listen to her lol.

dave mathews band. they do massive numbers touring. i just dont get it. they are not that good.

could name tons. i just dont get the hype to. normally acts they were good but stopped being good but are still raved about, dont get nirvanna either

Shaun 31-05-2014 05:45 PM

I like just about everyone but I think the most overrated is Springsteen... have to be American I guess to appreciate his same sound over 30-odd years

wtf. springsteen is forever changing thats why he is the only artist of his years to stil be top of everything. , you dont have to be american his biggest audience is in europe.
as everyfan will tell you . you have to see him live then your get it.

Shaun 31-05-2014 05:49 PM

Live and on record are entirely different things, if I'm not bothered by the record why on earth would I fork out about £100+ to see him :umm2:

Again that's the basic point of the thread though, if you dislike an artist or band then it doesn't matter if people say 'wtf you just need to listen to this song or see them live then you will love them' etc when really if you dislike it then nine times out of ten you aren't going to change your mind about just because someone tells you that you should like them

Kazanne 31-05-2014 05:51 PM

Gaga, Vamps,Maria Cary, Brittany Spears,Beyoncé,Elvis, and The Spice Girls

You've missed my point somewhat. I'm saying its a bit unfair to list an artist before your time cuz its easy to say they're overrated without witnessing first hand the impact their musics had. I'm not saying people cant do it I just think if you weren't around then you never really appreciate the impact of an artists music.

cause songs come alive when performed live. if the artist is good. springsteen is the best live act ever you wont get that from one or 2 cd's

Shaun 31-05-2014 05:56 PM

i'd rather see nicki minaj sorry

I got the point of your post.

You have again went back to the artists impact thing....when the threads about disliking an artist that lots of other people like.

I could turn round and say I don't really like Elvis' music but I wont deny he was a massive impact in his time.

You seem to be over complicating the thread when it's a pretty straightforward question..the impact doesn't matter if you dislike someones music.
