Question for the Mods... (not a rant thread)

And this is not a thread about me complaining about stuff on TiBB or the Mod Team or whatever, so don't leave just yet

Do you feel like members on this site are scared/cautious of getting into a debate/argument/discussion with you on here in case you decide to ban them?

And I guess this could be asked the other way around too, to members, asking if you don't argue with TiBB staff incase they ban you?

Marsh. 03-06-2014 04:37 PM

No, because they can't ban down to a disagreement or a debate, only if you break the rules.

If they banned me because they simply disagreed with my opinion and I didn't break any rules they'd soon know about it. :fist:

I'd curse and swear at them. :fist:

Then get banned from the appeal section/from PMing. :umm2:

I know, but people can still be afraid of getting into arguments with them cos you'd feel like they have a vendetta against you and will not hesitate to ban you the second you make a tiny slip-up  I used to feel like that when I first joined here (and other forums tbh) but now I feel comfortable and know that the Mods here a very professional (unlike other sites, not noming and shaming tho) and are able to have a healthy discussion with you without the threats of bans or anything.

Crimson Dynamo 03-06-2014 04:45 PM

Its not faceless vile DS.

Vicky. 03-06-2014 04:46 PM

I dont feel members have that thought about me tbh..given the amount of abuse I get in general  People seem to argue/debate with me perfectly fine too

However the other way around, I do sometimes find myself holding back certain opinions and stuff incase it gets used against me in the future for something..and with some members I do tend to tone down what I was going to say in a debate..or compeltely ignore their posts sometimes.. so that they don't start with all the 'it must be vicky' stuff when they get their next ban :joker:

Well that's not really fair or true Kazanne, every single infraction we give out creates an individual thread in the reports forum and if any other mods don't understand the reason for the infraction then they ask what it's about.

Just for an example, say I see an insult to another member and edit the post before giving out an infraction for it (this happens I done this recently actually) then the other mods/admins would see the infraction on the already edited post and say wheres the insult? I can't see it? then I have to explain oh I edited first by mistake wait and I will paste the edit.

One mod doesn't get to make a decision about long term bans on their own.

Theres also been infractions and bans over turned because of a mistake or misunderstanding.

No, Josy keeps her threats to PM's in my experience. :worry:

It was tongue and cheek Josy:hugesmile: I was just trying to scare Marsh:hugesmile: I don't think it worked.

True.

Just about to pm Hayden actually and tell him if he doesn't start posting these type of threads in the suggestions forum then I'm banning him :fist:

I think sometimes people aren't gonna argue about certain situations because they just get infracted for causing arguments when they just have a different POV

Vicky. 03-06-2014 04:52 PM

Most regular members know that this doesnt happen..and those that reckon it does are just a bit paranoid tbh

During BB though, its really awful. If we post a lot and people get to know our faves, every damn time someone gets an infraction its blamed on whichever mod likes whichever housemate..and so on. I used to get irritated by that but we all just laugh at it now really..as 9 times out of 10, there is someone on the mod team who likes/dislikes every housemate...so the 'the forum staff are biased against anyone who dislikes rachel rice' or whatever is completely baseless :D

Crimson Dynamo 03-06-2014 04:52 PM

All mods get new keyboards anyway with the "extra button"

http://forums.androidcentral.com/att..._skarcious.jpg

many sit with their index finger hovering over it. This can lead to "Mod Finger" which is painful.

Only dezzy has one of those

Josy 03-06-2014 04:53 PM

^^^ Oh god that's what I dread about BB Season

Edit - No not Dezzy, the thing Vicky was talking about above.

Also, we all joined up to the forum because we like debating, mostly for BB in my case but lots of other stuff too.

I think DS mods are fine, I've only been banned there like 10 or so times & I act exactly the same there & here :conf:

Smithy 03-06-2014 05:14 PM

"only 10 times"

:hmph: when you have had over 15 or so life bans get back to me

MeMyselfAndI 03-06-2014 05:15 PM

Most are from catt Alexandra Burke fans from when I post in the Alexandra Burke appreciation thread posting sales

Marsh. 03-06-2014 05:16 PM

10 bans? Over how long?

I got banned three times within three months and they perma-banned me.

MeMyselfAndI 03-06-2014 05:23 PM

Over four years, I'm a good boy & their mods are less strict

Jack_ 03-06-2014 05:23 PM

I've only ever had one ban on DS which was for 24 hours last year after I went off on one at some absolute patronising *unt who was posting really unnecessary nasty comments about Gina's appearance (someone did it here too IIRC). Once I got banned they thought it'd be hilarious to try and belittle me by sending me PM's telling me to 'enjoy my ban sweetheart' and so I egged them a long a little and baited them/insulted them back until it got to a point where they said 'carry on and I'll report you again ;)' and so I reported them back before they got the chance and the twat got banned and then I turned off PM's so they could never respond to me again <33333

****ing bliss owning

Marsh. 03-06-2014 05:27 PM

I got banned for telling someone to **** off and get laid when he spammed the soaps forum begging for Martine McCutcheon to return to Eastenders.

I can't be arsed ever since, it's not my thing.

Headie 03-06-2014 05:36 PM

I got banned on DS for 48hrs for saying 'I was going to contribute in this thread until I saw who the OP was'

They were a well known troll so I didn't see the problem lol

Tom4784 03-06-2014 05:44 PM

I just act like a normal member really and I expect people to to treat me the same (which they do).

My general rule of thumb is that if I'm involved in a thread in some way then I won't mod in that thread unless it's something really blatant since people would accuse me of bias even though I'm not. Any mod-type actions I do tend to spring from reports since I like to keep me as a member and me as a mod as two seperate things. Like anyone I'm fond of some members and not so fond of others but if I have my mod hat on and my banhammer ready then the only thing that matters is the facts, my personal opnion of a member doesn't matter when I'm modding, if they done goofed they get the hammer.

Crimson Dynamo 03-06-2014 05:46 PM

I dont think you can be an official Tibb Towers Citizen unless you have had a few swipes of the mighty Banhammer

MeMyselfAndI 03-06-2014 08:10 PM

yeah this, we all usually have different favourites but we still get accused constantly of being biased against so and so fans eventhough most of us might like whoever it is

but off season I dont think people are afraid to debate with us incase they get infracted
