What the hell was the point of the Iraq war ?

Apart from the death and destruction to people and buildings , the destruction of the country's infrastructure the destruction of their economy and industry and agriculture.

Apart from the millions dead, injured, displaced breakdown of law and order, sectarian violence.

For Al-Qaeda to just march back in and take over........what the hell was the point ??

arista 10-06-2014 06:09 PM

Ch4News just reported they got loads of USA weapons

These are the laws they will impose upon any place that falls under what they call their Caliphate
  • Women are told they should not go outside unless necessary, because their place is to provide stability at home.
  • They must wear full, wide Islamic dress
  • Stealing or looting will result in the amputation of limbs
  • Criminals can be crucified (this law quotes a verse from the Quran)
  • Muslims must participate in group prayers at mosques 'on time'
  • Muslims will be well-treated, unless they are allied with oppressors
  • Drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes are banned
  • Rival political or armed groups are also banned
  • Police and military officers will be given the chance to repent
  • Apostasy is punishable by death and carrying flags, except those of the Islamic state, is not allowed
  • Graves and shrines are forbidden, and will be destroyed

I think the people who are actually doing this need to take some responsibility. The Iraqi government need to act and act fast.

The interesting thing to me about the list of laws Gyps quoted and the comments about them going back to the Stone Age... Islam is only just over a thousand years old, a relative newbie in religious terms. I feel terribly sorry for the ordinary people in Iraq, those trying to go about their business, lead their lives, feed their families... Fundamentalists really are the scum of humanity

Well said, wifey.

MTVN 14-06-2014 09:06 AM

The power vacuum was opened up there after the toppling of Saddam and this is the result. It's the same story across a lot of the Middle East really, countries which are melting pots of different ethnic/religious/political tensions which are just waiting to boil over. As brutal as a lot of Middle Eastern dictators are they were also the only things keeping a lid on those tensions, so we now have had civil wars in Syria and Libya, Egypt has seen a lot of bloodshed and power struggles, and now Iraq is going the same way. A lot of people realised this would be the product of an ill thought out invasion back in 2003; the men in charge didn't listen.

Livia 14-06-2014 09:11 AM

I'm not trying to suggest for a minute that the invasion was a positive thing for Iraq. Quite the reverse... but what worries and saddens me is that other Islamic countries, the stable ones, the ones with the clout and the oil and the money, do nothing to sort this sh1t out. Now Obama is fiddling about with it again. And every time there's a disaster in the making like this one, the UN demonstrates once again what a useless, expensive, toothless waste of time it is.

From Ch4HD News

Mosul prefers Isis
and some people have left due to Iraqi Air force attacks
The leader of Mosul
does not want USA Air Strikes
as the American Drones
murder normal people at the same time of any attack.

America Attacking with Drones
will only make everything worse.

Iran is Happy with keeping the South safe.

Its a Split nation
Stupid Bush -Blair
should have left Saddam
in Total Control.

[Militants in Iraqi have published fresh pictures
which they say are of soldiers who deserted
the army being executed. The pictures
show groups of men being rounded up,
beaten and transported to the desert
where they are shot in a ditch.
They emerged shortly after Tony Blair
was branded a medieval 'crusader' by
his former deputy for calling for a new
military campaign in the Middle East.
Mr Blair - now a Middle East peace envoy - called for
the West to intervene in both Iraq and Syria
to ensure that Islamist fanatics
are 'countered hard, with force'.
Blair's comments prompted an
avalanche of criticism from both Left and Right,
with even allies suggesting he
should 'stay quiet during moments like this'. ]

Time to build a big fence around these countries and then prepare the drones and dust off the Sarin gas warheads.

Pushing the west into a corner on this will only result in brutal retalitory strikes with an unimaginable loss of life.

When all is said and done order will be restored by the West one way......or another

The West can't really get involved in this latest conflict as it is sectarian in nature and the west cannot be seen to be taking sides against the Sunni's or the Shiite's.

Difficult one for Obama this as he needs to talk to Iran who are one of the main regional powers. Israel must be fuming, even the UK are opening their Embassy in Tehran.

what an absolute farce the middle east has become

Some good points by Robert Fisk on the things that we won't hear Western leaders talk about:

Quote:

n The story of Iraq and the story of Syria are the same – politically, militarily and journalistically: two leaders, one Shia, the other Alawite, fighting for the existence of their regimes against the power of a growing Sunni Muslim international army.

n While the Americans support the wretched Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and his elected Shia government in Iraq, the same Americans still demand the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad of Syria and his regime, even though both leaders are now brothers-in-arms against the victors of Mosul and Tikrit.

n The Croesus-like wealth of Qatar may soon be redirected away from the Muslim rebels of Syria and Iraq to the Assad regime, out of fear and deep hatred for its Sunni brothers in Saudi Arabia (which may invade Qatar if it becomes very angry).

n We all know of the “deep concern” of Washington and London at the territorial victories of the Islamists – and the utter destruction of all that America and Britain bled and died for in Iraq. No one, however, will feel as much of this “deep concern” as Shia Iran and Assad of Syria and Maliki of Iraq, who must regard the news from Mosul and Tikrit as a political and military disaster. Just when Syrian military forces were winning the war for Assad, tens of thousands of Iraqi-based militants may now turn on the Damascus government, before or after they choose to advance on Baghdad.

n No one will care now how many hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been slaughtered since 2003 because of the fantasies of Bush and Blair. These two men destroyed Saddam’s regime to make the world safe and declared that Iraq was part of a titanic battle against “Islamofascism”. Well, they lost. Remember that the Americans captured and recaptured Mosul to crush the power of Islamist fighters. They fought for Fallujah twice. And both cities have now been lost again to the Islamists. The armies of Bush and Blair have long gone home, declaring victory.

n Under Obama, Saudi Arabia will continue to be treated as a friendly “moderate” in the Arab world, even though its royal family is founded upon the Wahhabist convictions of the Sunni Islamists in Syria and Iraq – and even though millions of its dollars are arming those same fighters. Thus does Saudi power both feed the monster in the deserts of Syria and Iraq and cosy up to the Western powers that protect it.

n We should also remember that Maliki’s military attempts to retake Mosul are likely to be ferocious and bloody, just as Assad’s battles to retake cities have proved to be. The refugees fleeing Mosul are more frightened of Shia government revenge than they are of the Sunni jihadists who have captured their city.

n We will all be told to regard the new armed “caliphate” as a “terror nation”. Abu Mohamed al-Adnani, the Isis spokesman, is intelligent, warning against arrogance, talking of an advance on Baghdad when he may be thinking of Damascus. Isis is largely leaving the civilians of Mosul unharmed.

n Finally, we will be invited to regard the future as a sectarian war when it will be a war between Muslim sectarians and Muslim non-sectarians. The “terror” bit will be provided by the arms we send to all sides.

America has put troops in a nation near Iraq

But the Problem is they (N. Iraq) want Isis in their towns
so Public would be Killed - Murdered by USA Drone bombers

[President Barack Obama has approved airstrikes in Iraq, as he confirmed US planes had dropped aid to Iraqis trapped on a mountain by Islamist fighters.
Three aircraft delivered food and water and left the drop zone after 15 minutes, according to the Pentagon.
Mr Obama said he had agreed to targeted strikes - if needed - to protect US citizens working in Irbil, and also to prevent a potential "genocide" of the Yazidi people.
He stressed there was no intention of sending in any troops. ]

is giving aid to some.
