mark's wheelchair comment?

Did I hear that right?

im pretty sure he said something like
putting us up against zoe is like putting a kid in a wheelchair up against usain bolt?

Im not saying its discrimination just Very poor taste imo

your thoughts?

Rob! 22-07-2014 03:26 AM

Much as I'd like to use that as an excuse to attack Mark, I don't think it was that offensive. Just an extreme comparison. Mind you, if Helen had said it...

Marsh. 22-07-2014 03:33 AM

Exaggerated example.

Not offensive really. I wouldn't say in poor taste either tbh. It was a fair statement IMO.

Someone with no ability/skill in something going up against a professional in that area.

Sad thing is I think he was referring to everyone else in his group and not himself :joker:

Marsh. 22-07-2014 03:38 AM

"Whitney's been reborn in the living room" was hilarious though.

rubymoo 22-07-2014 08:38 AM

I didn't find it offensive.

I took it as a reasonable comparison to each groups skill set.

Was great that they won too:)

HBB1508 22-07-2014 08:49 AM

I didn't think it was at all offensive just a comparision.

Daffodil 22-07-2014 08:57 AM

It was a brill metaphor.

This, people are hyper sensitive these days

karezza 22-07-2014 09:47 AM

If evil Ashleigh or creepster Chris had said that then most people would have found it funny.

You post that as if everyone in this thread were condemning Mark for saying it.....have you read any of the thread besides the OP?

Fendertele 22-07-2014 09:52 AM

I usually find it's able-bodied people that get offended, they also make all the rules, which they think is best, they should spend a day or two in a chair before they make decisions.... it all goes over my head, I've been called all sorts over the years....Marks was just a throw away comment that any-one could have made, people are just too sensitive, always thinking people will get offended etc,...

Kizzy 22-07-2014 09:54 AM

What a great analogy, couldn't have put it better myself

CaudleHalbard 22-07-2014 09:55 AM

Most offence about pretty much anything thing is taken by people "on behalf of" others.

rionablue 22-07-2014 10:07 AM

I don't think its offensive but Mark is GRATING ON ME at the moment. I found him funny for awhile but his accent and actions are now really getting on my nerves

your thoughts?

He compared himself to Nelson Mandela cos he had to sit on the naughty step lol that was sooo funny

Josy 22-07-2014 11:52 AM

Comparison

Beso 22-07-2014 12:04 PM

not offensive but he's still a dickprick

erinp5 22-07-2014 12:06 PM

I did laugh when he said it...opps

delta 22-07-2014 12:29 PM

Lighten up, it's called humour and yes, I laughed out loud.

Livia 22-07-2014 12:35 PM

When he made the comment, I thought Oh-oh.... I bet there are able-bodied people all over the country taking offence on behalf of disabled people... who probably laughed.

I love this post.

Yes people are uber sensitive, Mark didn't think anything of it so was not discriminating or mean to cause offence. I didn't even notice or even think It could be seen as offensive. It just made me chuckle :)

It must be tiring for individuals to constantly be on the defence on whats proper or inappropriate to say everyday.

user104658 22-07-2014 12:58 PM

I actually think that's really racist :(

smudgie 22-07-2014 01:23 PM

He was just his normal fake memememe self.
Stroppy diva needs to go.

Lwize 22-07-2014 01:25 PM

I find calling Chris a creepster more offensive than commenting on wheeled furniture.

the truth 22-07-2014 02:52 PM

seemed crass and tasteless to me and unfunny as always with him....so what do disabled people think of the comment? imagine hed said its like a woman trying chase usain bolt? The radical feminazis at the BBc actually spent a lot of time and money on the run like a girl campaign recently? claiming the term is offensive to all women and damaging womens chances of playing sport?
we hear infinitely more about womens alleged oppression in this country (all lies) yet so very little about the disabled being oppressed
if a group of kids were laughing at a kid in a wheelchair asking him to race the quick kids? at what point does that become tastless and offensive?

what mark said wasnt the leats bit funny, he never is, he did actually single out a kid in a wheelchair, not discrimination but poor taste.

Except that doesn't make sense. Someone who can't run chasing a professional sportsman does make sense in the comparison he was making.

it could make sense if hes singling out a specific group of people. isntead of saying kids in wheelchairs he said women, because women arent very fast? remember the run like a girl campaign with the BBC? they took that VERY seriously. yet comments like this are ignored?

Niamh. 22-07-2014 02:58 PM

Everything always comes back to them evil Feminazis :fist:

But whether women can run fast or not the fact is.... they can run.

Mark was making a comparison to someone who can't do the activity at all. Therefore, someone in a wheelchair can't run... at all.

Stating the fact that someone who can't run.... can't run is not the same as sexist comments that women are crap runners. Jessica Ennis anyone?

That's not running.

Marsh. 22-07-2014 03:03 PM

He said "This is like putting a man in a wheelchair in a sprint race with Usain Bolt".

No mention of kids and no mention of "wheeling the chair". Sprinting = running.

I can't actually believe I'm explaining this.

Livia 22-07-2014 03:09 PM

We've got some amazing paralympians, I think everyone would agree. And I'm sure the paralympian wheelchair racers themselves wouldn't hope to keep up with Bolt. Until someone who is disabled has a sense of humour failure over this, all the able-bodied angst is ridiculous.

abhorson 22-07-2014 03:15 PM

He should have said Oscar pistorious!!
