This is WHY HELEN WON

The public do not like an obvious winner.

They like to shock the housemates

They also like an underdog

Whilst Ashleigh was the underdog initially the balance shifted when Helen's posse left one by one!

The house was made aware of Ashleigh's insane popularity around the same time.

All the housemates just thought that Ashleigh winning was a given!

The public didn't like that!

THE PUBLIC HATE BEING TOLD WHAT TO THINK

The Helen protest vote came as yet another 'lets stick it to the producers'

Helen was made the underdog, her redemption was her winning storyline and the public voted her the winner because they felt Ashleigh was too obvious

M X 16-08-2014 12:14 AM

I think Helen won because she was the biggest talking point throughout the series and therefore the public felt more familiar with her than anybody else.

Cal. 16-08-2014 12:17 AM

Tbh (and I am a strong Helen fan) you're reading far too much into it. There was 1.2% between Helen and Ashleigh, and that was down to a surge in the Twitter campaign for Helen to win once it got to the final 3. It went for there being a few tweets in Helen's favor every five minutes or so, to her being the only housemate to trend when it was just her, Christopher and Ashleigh left. Ashleigh fans also got too laid back on the final as well, believing they'd done enough to secure Ashleigh winning when they hadn't.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 16-08-2014 12:17 AM

ok

Marsh. 16-08-2014 12:18 AM

I agree with that to some extent. The outside information leaking into the house shifted things around.

One of many reasons why the housemates should not be made aware of who's popular and who isn't.

Kizzy 16-08-2014 12:18 AM

This series should be called Big Helen :joker: How crazy all these big personalities in this 'power house' and who rules the roost? A beautician from Bolton! :D

MB. 16-08-2014 12:18 AM

Also, she got the most votes on the night

I didn't dislike Helen, I was just supporting both her and Ashleigh. Once it got close to the final I began to dislike some aspects of Ashleigh and decided to just focus on Helen campaigning. What does that have to do with what I said?

daniel-lewis-1985 16-08-2014 01:50 AM

Whatever helps you sleep at night ;)

Helen won for being a memorable housemate and thank god people voted differently to the last few years or we would have had another Sam or Luke A on our hands lol.

Atleast now with Helen she has a strong chance at staying in the limelight and every article will say "BB WINNER HELEN" which in turn is great promo for the show.

Im now routing for her to turn that 100k into a million we haven't had a BB success story since Josie Gibson.

I hope so! :)

I hope she embraces it as well and opens up more about her past (which is essentially going to help her as well with making money) and not just thinks she's too good for that and talks about her winning (which will bore people)

ruiphillips 16-08-2014 02:07 AM

Helen only won because the viewers were tired of the manipulation and made a joke of the series by awarding the prize money to a prozzie.

Yaki da 16-08-2014 02:08 AM

She won because she got to play the hard done by victim in the final week. She did exactly what she accused Ashleigh of doing... Going to the diary room, balling her eyes out, full of self pity asking "Why is it always me... It's so unfuuur"

Bluerang1 16-08-2014 04:57 AM

lol shock winner. bye

brisbanebroncos 16-08-2014 05:33 AM

Helen won because her fans didn't have to spend any money keeping her in so while the fans of Ashleigh were probably thinking that they had spent way too much keeping Ashleigh in and probably didn't spend as much on the final. Helens fans had all of their voting money to spare.

I think it's kinda funny that a complete asshole won the show. It's sad that she will not learn from the experience and to her, it will justify her actions and will go through life as an absolute bitch. However, I'll never meet her, so well done, Helen.

BigBuk 16-08-2014 05:51 AM

She was because she was the most deserving, she was this Big Brother.

I also find it ironic how Helen haters call her vile, a bully, asshole, etc.. but they're being the same thing by calling her names, glad Helen won, its rare that the most entertaining HM wins.

Get over it, Ashliegh lost 'cos she allied herself with the wrong people, the vivacious girl we saw last night was a far cry from the biatch we saw inside the house. If she had demonstrated just 10% of the joi de vie that we saw last night outside of the house then she would have walked it.

In the end, as they all do, she reverted to type and withdrew from the group and started to criticise from afar, each time she lost a new 'sniping' pal she replaced them with like kind.

Helen is a doer and won because she was herself all the way through.

Another really good post Daniel.

Helen won for me because she has been at the forefront of the whole series not just bits of it.

Northern Monkey 16-08-2014 08:54 AM

A very fitting end.I'm glad she won.It highlighted what a joke this series was.

I didn't think we had any boring males in this year's final year apart from maybe Pav, but I can see where you're coming from. Helen certainly is memorable!

Can anyone tell me what Josie Gibson's success story was? I don't usually keep up with HMs after the show but I'm interested to know :)

That is a very good point, she was the only one of the finalists who had not been up for eviction before so it does play a part.

I also think she played a blinder by telling Ashleigh that she was the winner on the night that they "made up", I think that comment alone spurred on Helen fans, and made Ashleigh fans a bit complacent (maybe), at any rate I didn't vote so I can't complain about the winner :D:

Amy Jade 16-08-2014 09:07 AM

I think she partly won partly because Ashleigh fans were smug about her being the bookies favourite, it was a foregone conclusion for them that she was unbeatable so they never voted as hard.

I also think Helen came out of the final week much better than Ashleigh who faded into the background. Helen showed a more vulnerable side and offered an olive branch to Ashleigh.

I also think Winston going last week (because of an Ashleigh/Chris fan twitter campaign) left Helen all his support, especially after Ash went.

Helen won because the alternative was far worse. a stuck up little **** with an inflated ego.
Like it or lump it Ashleigh was a silly little bitch who didnt deserve it.

I think she won because she was honest, had no airs and graces and showed us both sides of her character good and bad, which is what we ALL have, and she was a great housemate, first female I ever wanted to win.

You supported Helen from the start while she was showing her bad side, so you were drawn too her by the bad side of her character.

Would you say that's a fair comment?

tonster76 16-08-2014 10:49 AM

Most of your reasons are the same... ie) Helen was an underdog.

So how does an underdog win? ie) if she's the least popular...

JoshBB 16-08-2014 10:55 AM

I voted for her because I love a shock on final night, and I also feel that she deserved to win after all that happened and how she was made out to be a bully.

Ammi 16-08-2014 10:55 AM

..I think for me it's not so much what's perceived as 'bully' but what's perceived as 'victim'...there were instances of perceived 'pack' bullying led by Helen's verbal assaults and insults by not only the public/media but BB itself..hence the warnings etc but there are no clear definitions of bullying so that's why it's so hard to reach agreement with this...but the reactions and indeed the characters of the 'victims' were quite different..with Ashleigh when BB showed the girls the DR footage...she had 'deserved' it because she had manipulated/bitched about/been spiteful/mean/spoilt etc....?...those aren't my words necessarily but just terms which could be applied and her reaction when 'confronted' by the pack was just well...so what..?../type thing...

..then with Marlon after he pressed the buzzer and he became the 'victim'...he was visibly upset/isolated himself and obviously felt quite alone...and there was much more sympathy shown there...

...with Jale at the beginning, she gained some sympathy but was equally condemned as 'playing the victim' so the sympathy was quite split but she fitted the 'victim' role more than Ashleigh I think who was physically extremely attractive/bitched/was spiteful..a 'mean girl'..?..etc ....

...I think it's a movie type scenario of what a victim is perceived to be in that they first have to be seen to be 'nice' otherwise they may 'deserve' it/denied sympathy and not be perceived as being bullied in any way...that disturbs me quite a bit actually because whatever their personality and if they also can be mean etc/bitch and any other bad personality traits themselves...talking behind someone's back or bitching about them is not in any way bullying otherwise those insults would be something everyone of us would be guilty of in the posts on the forum when we 'insult' housemates but it's not something that has any bullying aspects to it at all..all it does is reflect on the person insulting, which it did on Ashleigh....but if a 'victim' is a bitch or thought of as not really that nice a person or indeed quite awful in character...is the bullying therefore acceptable...

..anyway those are all moral and debatable things but I think through this what I personally have learned is to try to separate those thoughts and see the show and housemates who have provided much to the series in terms of 'entertainment' value and our winner certainly is very deserving for those reasons of the talking points for the last several weeks and I wish her well and hope she is happy in life..and a salute to all Helen fans in helping her achieve this win....

But she wasn't the least popular, she won by a slight majority, making her the most popular.

That's why it is a contest, and why you don't know who has won until the votes have been counted. People come from behind and win all the time, and they will continue to do so as long as we have a voting process

Very well said. And it was a very slight majority, 1.2%.

Helen is a **** and shouldn't have won, simple as FIX!!!

I think she won because in this day and age people love someone that is vulgar.
I must say I have laught at her sometimes but to be honest there was nobody to really vote for in the show.

Not really in my opinion,I would guess most avid BB fans would still vote to evict someone anyway.
Supporters of housemates under vote to evict cannot do a great deal to help them until we get to the vote to win stage.

I wasn't a Helen supporter until midway through the series.
No matter whether a housemate I really liked was up or not, I still voted in the evictions that took place but I always make the decision to vote to evict who I want out,not the recognised easy target via campaigns and the like.

So I likely spent as much as I would have expected to over the series in total.
In the final I threw a few votes to Ash and Christopher but the massive bulk of my votes all went to Helen.
Really pleased I am that I did vote that way too.
