Women MPs 'less inclined to discuss big issues, says Austin Mitchell
Remarks on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour dismissed as 'nonsense'

Valid points

Oh for goodness sake, can't this ridiculous man just bow out gracefully as he heads to retirement at the next election.
He has talked little sense since being elected as an MP and now he wants to go down saying even more stupid things.

Is anyone really that interested in anything he has to say now anyway.

I'd never agree with that statement.

Some women just like some men too may take longer to think about war and its effects but no gender is any better or worse as to such issues really in my opinion.

Livia 19-08-2014 03:12 PM

I have no need to post on this thread. Joey's said it all.

Redway 19-08-2014 07:13 PM

I can't believe people can come out with the most overtly sexist, misogynistic nonsense on here and not even get a warning.

Kizzy 20-08-2014 01:22 AM

Eveyone's allowed an opinion, even Austin Michell.

kick a man out for having an opinion? why dont you try russia or korea, you may enjoy their censorship and destruction of freedom of speech. women can say what they like about men and do always. they blame all men for all wars and female mps claim if women had been in charge thered be no wars. complete sexist lies which you and others choose to ignore. additionally in some parts of the country a man is not allowed to run for office, because hes a man, simple as that. you call that democracy? its 100% anti male sexism in its purest form. yet you and others choose to ignore this too. by the way 98% of female mps voted for all the UK wars of the past 20 years. peacemongers lol yeah right.

Not to speak on joey's behalf, but probably because he's a liability. Simply having a penis doesn't automatically mean you're a great, fair, learned politician. And he's definitely not.

Really...... who was that then ? Adolfine Hitler or Josephine Stalin or perhaps Germima Khan or Polly Pot.

I think you'll find most mass murdering despots are men.

He's out of touch and makes embarrassing comments, embroiling himself in controversy that detracts from what he's in office for: to serve his constituents. Sadly he's not alone. Others - men and women - do the same, but we're talking specifically about him. If he wants to give purely personal opinions he should do it when he stands down (or is voted out) and not use his position for personal rants.

I'm not detailing it... Google it, if you're interested. You asked why I think he's a liability and I told you.

Kizzy 21-08-2014 08:01 PM

due to his comments about Cameron and big pharma, or the payoffs at the BBC?..

Hi the truth, also happy to answer you but doubt you will like the answer, here goes.
I just don't like the guy,he rarely likes the leaders of his party,he often goes against their policies but with no alternative answer to them.
For me he is a bit of a loose cannon and the sad thing is he just cannot come up with logical alternatives.

For me, he rambles and bumbles on about nothing in particular, some of my family are in his constituency and they find him hard to track down as their MP too.

The comment above is a good example of him just firing off without thinking as to offending people generally and his colleagues too,and for most of what he spouts off on,he is ill informed on and also he hasn't researched properly.

He just simply rubs me up the wrong way I guess, I think he was fortunate that he got into Parliament at all,I give him credit for holding the seat for so long but I think he has probably been one of the most ineffective MPs in Parliament.

His main problem has always been for me his attitude with that smirk on his face that for me signifies insincerity.
I would also actually think it is a relief to the Labour party that he is standing down now and I doubt if Parliament will in any way at all be the tiniest bit worse off for him not being there after 2015.

That is why I say good riddance.
Parliament possibly more now than at any time since the war, need people of conviction, determination and the ability to set out to really change things for the better, highlighting the positives and not always being negative.
For me Austin Mitchell has never been such an MP.

disappointing contribution from you there. hes been in and out of parliament for 37 years, I think its a tad hysterical to demand he leaves parliament and write his entire career off and totally ignore 37 years of hard work.

Kizzy 21-08-2014 08:21 PM

Totally, an MP almost 80yrs old who had open heart surgery last year gets his entire career rubbished due to one comment... Maybe we should start listing some real gaffes from those a bit closer to the top, or even THE top, 'calm down dear' ...Who said that?
