I have been nominated twice now and still not doing it.

One of the most annoying fads ever tbh, if you are going to donate then do it without making a big song and dance about it.

to be fair, most people wouldn't of donated before the ice bucket stuff. i don't really mind it. it's brought a **** load of awareness to the cause and tbh i never really heard of ALS before all this. Neknominations was a ridiculously stupid fad but i'm happy this one helps people and it's really just a bit of fun

Fair point.

Although I still don't see why people need to do the challenge, add a video online and then donate tbh, why not just donate?

Some upload the screenshot of them donating afterwards and that's good but some seem to do it for attention more than the cause itself.

a challenge is the best way of donating because it makes everyone aware of it,

The challenge is a good way to raise awareness.

Only if people actually donate..

I don't disagree with raising awareness at all, I just think a lot of people ignore what it's actually about.

I agree with Josy. It's just a fad that'll die out in a few weeks, it's not exactly going to raise much money in the long-term. There are ways of donating and promoting without pouring a bucket over your head and pressuring others into doing the same. If I want to donate money I'll do it, like Josy said, there's no need to make a huge song and dance about it.

im sure people are donating, its fun and its a great way to spread the course, a picture of a donation wont go as far as a video

Samuel. 25-08-2014 02:21 PM

It's raised over $40m in the last couple of weeks. Fad or not, it's effective and only a positive thing.

Yeah of course it's positive atm, what about when the fad dies out? do you honestly think all these people are going to keep donating to the cause?

I disagree that it's only a positive thing in the long run tbh..

What about when people start getting hurt or experience bad reactions just like the neknoms?

What about all the water that's being wasted for these challenges?

It's a fad that will die when something else comes along and takes it's place.

I already donate to charities and won't be doing the ice water challenge just because 'everyone else is'.

It's completely a positive thing in the long run, the charity have said they've raised many many times more money then they ever expected to raise ever. The fad will die out but they have an incredible amount to work with for now and the future.

The water lost is the equivalent to a shower... that doesn't make a noticeable subtraction to the tens of millions raised.

We'd all love to donate to every charity all the time but it's simply not realistic. This gives a specific incentive especially for those who are oblivious to the charity in the first place.

Ultimately it's only a good thing.

I suppose we will have to agree to disagree.

I definitely don't think it's a bad thing for the charities for now, the donations won't continue from the biggest majority though.

Unfortunately Macmillan twisted it to make out it was for them, even though the ice bucket feeling was supposed to emulate the feeling of ALS.
