Also America is a huge nation with so many more news channels even in one state that the whole of the UK

This is a good clip and it's something I've always suspected about in the US but man I just don't find Russell Howard funny at all.

He reminds me of the kid in school who was never unpopular but not popular either so breezes through school not having a single story whatsoever then decides to try and act the clown in college cos he realises his dick actually works and he fancies this media studies student called Kim and the only way he can get her to notice him is by making jokes and pulling funny smiley faces afterwards.

How specific...

Get what you mean though - he's the little kid who hung around with the cool kids desperately trying to make them laugh.

Livia 26-10-2014 01:10 PM

I think I must be the only person in the world who likes Russell Howard and finds him funny. How he ever gets work is beyond me.

The difference between the two news reports is typical of the way the UK and the UK approach virtually everything.

assss-nesss

Jamesy 26-10-2014 01:42 PM

I like Russell Howard. He's not exactly the best comedian on the planet. But he's still good, makes me laugh at times.

The Ebloa thing is just a funny highlight of how the US media and UK media are two polar opposites. Although UK media can be just over the top with some things.

JoshBB 26-10-2014 01:54 PM

i love russell howard so much

In fairness, the UK media is prone to fearmongering too, just hasn't happened as much this time.

Indeed, they were pretty ridiculous with H1N1 and borderline hysterical with the measles "epidemic" in Wales last year, essentially making measles out to be some sort of apocalyptic plague when the reality is, in the vast majority of cases, it's less symptomatic than Chicken pox and clears faster.

Then again, lately the US have managed to be pretty hysterical about actual chicken pox :joker:.

Let's not forget the doomsday predictions every time we have a little bit of snow.

Yeah plus I'm sure with the correct editing and selecting of clips it wouldn't be that hard to present this story the other way round, there has been plenty of Ebola scaremongering imo

Kizzy 26-10-2014 10:32 PM

Thing is with viruses they are really unpredictable and as flu keeps mutating antiviral meds just can't keep up. Measles is pretty bad for pregnant women and chickenpox can make men sterile so there's a worry there.
Ebola on a small island?... well, that just doesn't bear thinking about.

Playing down some issues to prevent panic and raising awareness of things that are within our control are sensible imo.

if all else fails have a go at the yanks, pathetic

im amazed howard has been allowed to impersonate an american black man on the uber liberal bbc....? or do the corrupt waste of space bbc only choose when such matters become a news story

the bbc is absolute ****, a total waste of billions of tax payers money, the worst news channel on tv a total laughing stock, the entire station has produces mostly garbage shows by an outdated formula for decades.

Payback for Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.

Oh, and Stewie in Family Guy, so technically we still owe them one.

This is a comedy show with comedy editing. Most newsreaders in the US sounded exactly like the British newsreaders he showed at first.

actually it's not at all. It's just that America has a much larger press and so of course you can find more extreme voices in a much larger and more free press.

at least he was an entertaining dick lol stewie ius genius, an evil genius, family guy is hilarious, the simpsons has been class for decades, the seemingly endless run of great American comedies has long buried the british false accusation that yanks don't get irony..........its we who don't get it....we don't even get the fact that laughing AT people and being plain mean is never funny, never...........

we used to produce magic, absolte magic, it kills me to admit it but we lost it decades ago.......the us comedies are deeper, more well researched, the characters more well rounded, the plots and stories are unpredictable and multi faceted....ultimately theyre even kinder nicer warmer more broad minded than most british comedies and tv shows in general....we over rely on either the ancient scribes or the posh mansions and frocks.......id love to go for a pint in the cheers bar, get on fraziers couch, the fabulous larry sanders show, hang out with ellen, co for an al capacino with friends, chew the cud the Seinfeld and his odd buddies, go for cold one with the fonz and Richie Cunningham, further back the odd couple, or shooting the breeze with the greatest comedy mind on earth, larry david etc etc

their movies are endlessly funnier, darker, more unpredictable, they offer endless chances to writers and multi producers, even their serious dramas are funnier. dallas, the sopranos, west wing, etc

we have the ability but we offer no opportunities in this country....its often a case of individuals fighting the systems in the uk or us. once people slavishly follow the formula all the magic disappears.and that's exactly what happens with the twatfest that is the bbc
