A Storm of Swords (P2)
A Feast For Crows
A Dance With Dragons (P1)
A Dance With Dragons (P2)

the 3rd one, although i downloaded 5 books instead of 7 ( 3 & 5 were one book rather than 2 separate ones) so idk if you'll have been on 3A or 3B

Glenn. 15-02-2015 12:13 PM

I have the actual book but I have up to book 3 part two. Can I just skip part one?

it's hard to say, like, sansa's and bran's story that we've seen is all that's been written (so thats everything in book 3 and 4) whereas arya/tyrion is the end of book 3 (iirc anyway)

but you need to read book 3 bc there's an amazing twist towards the end

This tbh

Daenerys is the rightful queen.

Smithy 15-02-2015 07:18 PM

First book is literally not worth the time Eoin, it's exactly the same as the show

This... I mean really :smug:

Smithy 15-02-2015 07:21 PM

Yeah, even then 2 is pretty similar you could start at 3, that's where there starts to be some pretty big differences

Also slightly OT has anybody gotten/read The World of Ice and Fire that came out last year?

I'm not reading something I've already watched on TV. What a momentous waste of time that is.

Books >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Movies/TV every time.

I would rather read the books then watch the series

Josy 15-02-2015 08:15 PM

I personally wouldn't advise anyone to skip parts of the book or entire books, there's so much information in them that you would miss out on.

Glenn. 15-02-2015 08:17 PM

Oh shut up josy. Ain't nobody got time for that

Mokka 15-02-2015 08:17 PM

plus you started this convo in the books forum... not the tv chat one

Glenn. 15-02-2015 08:18 PM

Well I'm talking about the books. Not the tv show?

Josy 15-02-2015 08:21 PM

Glenn clearly struggling to read the books

Glenn. 15-02-2015 08:22 PM

i started with the first one but I knew what was happening. The same with book 3. Most of what I'm reading I've already seen. It's dull.

The problem you will encounter is that the TV show flows in chronological order, but the books will take one characters story and tell it indepthly, and then go back and tell another characters story. Some books covered characters so far ahead of chronological order that George won't even address their story for another book or two.

So books and series won't match up, and one can not substitute the other

Glenn. 15-02-2015 09:56 PM

I know. I'm reading them

My work here is done :hehe:

Natalie. 16-02-2015 06:39 AM

I love the books

Locke. 16-02-2015 08:47 AM

One major thing that would be missed out on by skipping the first book is all of Ned's thoughts on what happened to his sister and Rhaegar, which is going to be a pretty huge reveal in the books that haven't been released yet, and things like Robb's relationship, everything about Stannis, and Jon's/Dany's entire season 2 plot are completely different from the second book.
