Boy 11 dresses up as 50 shades Christian and is excluded!

Note the cable ties

A schoolboy was ‘excluded’ from World Book Day celebrations after turning up for lessons in a Fifty Shades of Grey costume.

Liam Scholes, 11, arrived at Sale High School dressed as Christian Grey - wearing a suit and carrying cable ties and an eye mask.

Mum Nicola Scholes, 36, said she received a call from teachers saying the costume was inappropriate and he would not be allowed to participate in themed events and a class photograph.

Nicola, a primary school teacher, said the costume was no worse than others depicting fictional serial killers and violent characters.

She said: “We thought it was funny. We were walking home from school and he had the idea of going as Christian Grey.

One of the teachers went dressed as Dexter and I don’t see why sex is seen as more offensive than murder."

The school suggested that he pretend to be ruthless promiscuous killer James Bond instead!

How do you feel about this?

waterhog 06-03-2015 07:50 AM

i think they need to lighten up a bit - what about freedom of expression ? not everything we like is always expressed but as a free country we have to take it.

Mystic Mock 06-03-2015 07:50 AM

It's Rolf Harris's dream.:joker:

Tbh a child dressing up as a murderer is not gonna scare people as much as dressing up as a 50 Shades Of Grey character, what if he had've used those equipment on another student?

arista 06-03-2015 07:56 AM

The Mother is Arrogant
I watched her on GMBHD this morning
she would not debate what was in the book
Pathetic.

Hog

11 year old in cable ties
is the WISE

Crimson Dynamo 06-03-2015 08:03 AM

what is sad is that the mum is a primary school teacher and it was world book day and she could only think of a tragedy of a book like 50 shades?

Mystic Mock 06-03-2015 08:06 AM

11 Shades of Grey.:evilgrin::joker:

Please don't ban me?

The sad thing is that the other kids will probably ridicule him now as his been singled out by his own Mother by doing this.

Nedusa 06-03-2015 08:23 AM

Quite right too........he is 11 years old , why would he want to dress up like a Sado-Masochistic character from a fictional novel.

Why would he even know about it ? he's only 11 years old.

This is strange and just more than a bit creepy.

Kizzy 06-03-2015 08:47 AM

I agree it's totally cringe! blurgh... :/

Livia 06-03-2015 08:54 AM

That's just ridiculous. Those plasticuffs are totally inadequate...

user104658 06-03-2015 09:06 AM

Meh. It was his own idea, so long as he hasn't actually hog-tied any of his classmates I think people are seriously over reacting. He's 11, not 5, and it's just a joke.

Of course he should have been banned from wearing it, though. It's World Book Day and calling 50 Shades a "book" is really quite questionable. The generally accepted term is "Word Vomit". Was it "Word Vomit Day"? No! So the costume was out of place.

But the only steel cuffs that seem to be available to buy have those "safety catches" on them. What's the point of that? Why does it even have a key? A pointless charade. How do you get your hands on real cuffs? Where do you get yours, Livia?

There was an ad in Guns & Ammo.

I find it quite creepy that an 11 year old boy dressed up as a character based on the sexual fantasies of a middle-aged, middle-class housewife and his mother thought that would be okay.

Agree with this. His mother is an idiot imo

user104658 06-03-2015 09:25 AM

I agree that she was stupid to think that it would be considered "fine" by the school, but I personally don't find it particularly shocking or upsetting. 50 Shades is a joke and should be considered such. When it comes to the "but it's about sex OMG!" stuff I don't really have time for that... I have no problem with children knowing about sex, so long as they're not actually doing it. It's a normal part of life. It's not dirty, or deviant.

Besides - 50 Shades is a cultural phenomenon despite being an absolutely awful book. I would be more worried if an 11 year old DIDN'T know about it... they would have to be living under a rock? I also believe that any 11 year old with a pinch of intelligence would realise that the whole spectacle genuinely is hilarious. I don't think it's weird that he made the suggestion. However, if he was my child, whilst I would have laughed quite a lot at the suggestion, I would also have had the sense to point out that it wouldn't go down well in school.

Crimson Dynamo 06-03-2015 09:30 AM

The plastic ties in the shot are way too small for adult use, I use proper Royal Mail ones every day for work and believe me I could have you tied to my metal bedpost with 4 of them and you are not going anywhere

My exact thoughts.
I would think if wiser to go as a character from a book you had read..age appropriate.

Josy 06-03-2015 11:47 AM

I think it's actually pathetic that the mother came up with the idea to send the kid to school like that.

And I also think it was right for him to be excluded.

andybigbro 06-03-2015 11:51 AM

I don't think he should have been excluded, it doesn't seem like it was his choice. He's a young boy and won't know exactly what the film is about. It wouldn't be fair to exclude him based on his mothers actions. The school could have taken certain items off him and flagged him off as a different character from a book that wears a suit a lot like Atticus Finch or something.

His mother on the other hand is an idiot.

The school suggested to the mother that the kid said he was James Bond instead..she obviously refused because he was still excluded.

The mother is a moron, why would she want her son excluded? She obviously knew it would spark controversy.

:bored:

BBfanUSA 06-03-2015 12:03 PM

I think it was right for him to be excluded. This is kinda disturbing to be honest.

Cherie 06-03-2015 01:50 PM

She wanted publicity, apparently the kid is on the verge of semi pro boxing, plus he is an actor, the poor kid sat mute next to her when she was interviewed, tried to get a word in edgeways and she shut him down

RichardG 06-03-2015 02:39 PM

On first glance I thought the title said executed rather than excluded. D:

But yeah it's pretty inappropriate for his age :umm2:

Locke. 06-03-2015 02:44 PM

The mother should be fired. Can't be having a teacher that chooses that trash as the source of her childs costume teaching kids.

I don't think total freedom of expression is a good thing. What if a man said he was going to blow up london, and we arrest him? Do we scream freedom of speech then?

arista 06-03-2015 02:55 PM

Now the mother
is on BBCNewsHD

whatever next RTHD

Just saw it. how ridiculous.. if you wouldn't let your child read the book or watch the movie, then why is it okay for him to pretend to be the character (a rapist)?

A rapist??? :joker: Josh, 50 Shades is a badly (abysmally) written erotic fiction novel about light consensual sadomasochism. The character is not a rapist!

The author is though. Raping the eyes and brains of everyone who reads that garbage. I read the first page (it's become a cultural thing, so I thought I should at least attempt it) and it gave me a headache :(. Holy cow.

Vanessa 06-03-2015 06:09 PM

:suspect: how does he even know about it? has he read the books?

If you overlook the content, the literature level is about right for an 11 year old.
