Should C&G be private members viewing only?

So following this thread (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/foru...d.php?t=222747) where the general concensus was a yes, I thought I'd make a poll and hopefully admin will consider it (again) to try and stop drama kicking off

So basically C&G would be a members ony area, and guests wouldn't be able to view the threads in them, seeing as most newbies post in the BB section straight away I doubt many of them would even notice before signing up, I think people would be more comfortable with personal issues on here too knowing it was private

If you're against it, please say why

Shaun 27-03-2015 08:35 PM

I don't really see why not... it's not a section that guests would need to see anyway, I doubt anyone joins the forum just for that section (unless they've been lured over by existing members). And the point about personal stuff is a fair one... given obvious circumstances...

Vicky. 27-03-2015 08:36 PM

Yes I think so tbh.

Obviously the BB/XF etc have to be public to get new members on season, but I really dont see the need for C&G to be available to all. Would be tempted to have general chat on private too. I also think it might encourage a few more to join up if they are browsing and there are parts they can't access...just out of curiousity

Jessica. 27-03-2015 08:36 PM

Yes, there are so many benefits to it.

LukeB 27-03-2015 08:37 PM

Yeah!

Mokka 27-03-2015 08:37 PM

I am a yes, considering the present and on going multi infestation we have going on

Jay. 27-03-2015 08:37 PM

Definitely, I think it's such a good idea. There are always random guests viewing the lounge and it's probably quite obvious who they are..

Yeah i think is a good point too, i know i've joined sites just to see what the private sections are :joker:

Yes and, if it's possible, make it so you need a certain number of posts to access those sections too, not a huge number. Just enough for us to spot that creature's multis before he vomits any venom.

Here for this :clap1:

Raph 27-03-2015 08:39 PM

Yeah that's probably a good idea, especially as a lot of people's pictures are in C&G's. Great idea Smithy.

MessiahCarey 27-03-2015 08:39 PM

Yes

Cherylgu needs her freedom

I was going to mention this too actually.

From a mod perspective, we have asked before for members posts to be moderated until they have 5 posts, or even just for the first post to be moderated, or for accounts to have to be validated by us (so we can check for proxies etc) before they can post

I really do think this is now the time to put that into action

Great idea!

Smithy 27-03-2015 08:40 PM

So armand, what's your reason for no sis?

Shaun 27-03-2015 08:40 PM

re: that creature I don't think that section being off-limits would stop them, they'd just post it elsewhere  but I still think it's a good idea.

Exactly what I was thinking :clap1:

Loukas 27-03-2015 08:42 PM

yeah, i agree to that :clap1:

Smithy 27-03-2015 08:44 PM

Cherie, Udanax

your reasons for no?

Jessica. 27-03-2015 08:44 PM

No-votes shouldn't be valid without an explanation.

Cherie 27-03-2015 08:45 PM

I have no idea what creature you are talking about, I agree that newbies joining should be santioned by a moderator, that is the case in other forums so can't see why it can't be done here, as for guests not being able to see chat and games, sometimes I don't bother to log in :omg: so it would annoy me not to be able to see it

andybigbro 27-03-2015 08:45 PM

Yeah, I agree with everyone saying yeah.

I think the post count thing is a good idea. When it comes down to it, it's a big brother forum, not a chat and games one, so members will be joining for big brother purposes (most likely).

And once they have made enough posts the can enjoy the benefits of other parts of the forum.

There are some previously banned members that lurk through chat and games threads and post when a topic they feel they're relevant too (even when they're not) appears, usually it's attacking forum members or their family members

Just don't log out then

 Is it really that much effort to log in if it saves from all the trolling/pics being stolen.

Before I joined I use to spy of regulars in c&g(I joined because of a tibb game that was going on and it looked cool). I Also don't see how it would reduce drama when multie's would be able to see it as well seeing as they are memebers and most of the drama lately has been member v member.

There would be less motivation to make multis if they don't have a clue what's going on.

Jay. 27-03-2015 08:48 PM

Is there no way of banning banned members from seeing chat and games as well?

There may be, I'm pretty sure you can ban members from certain areas.

Well i think you're one of very few members who'd view C&G before the main BB forums, and banned member (or perm banned members) can't view the forum, usually it comes up with a notification which says you're banned and aren't able to view the forum

When you're banned temporarily sometimes you're blocked from seeing the site entirely unless you log out.

Is that not the case for permabans?

I'm quite sure if we do a ban via the control panel they cant see the forum fullstop. However, at the min all it takes it to log out of the banned account and they can see again

They can view it if they clear their cache/cookies or with an incognito tab though.

I think this will do more damage that good. When you first join you wanna get to know the other posters and the best place for that is c&g and not being able to go in there will make it even harder for new members to integrate, also It would encourage people with more posts too look down at those with fewer posts coz c&g would bee seen as some sort of exclusive club.

Glenn. 27-03-2015 08:52 PM

I'm all for this is and I was also going to mention what Vicky said about the checks before the account is activated. A lot of forums do this.

It only has to be 5 or 10 posts, I know some forums have 100 or something and I agree that is OTT.

If it's something like 5 posts then it's not very much or blocking them out for very long.

Just enough to detect a spam or multi account.

It's been mentions plenty of times on here in a light hearted matter I didn't think it offended anyone... Or am I just not aloud to be apart of the jokes on here?
