Is fat not a word we are allowed to use anymore. It describes someone who is overweight and she is overweight so she is fat, end of discussion. What is the problem. We wont be able to say Bello is ugly, we will have to say his face isn't ergonomically perfect, no, he is an ugly git, end of.

Of course you're allowed to say it. Just like how I'm allowed to think it's shallow and unnecessary. :)

Withano 23-06-2015 03:18 PM

Still, she's allowed to be upset by fat jokes.

sampvt considering someone ugly does not make it true.........others

may find him handsome/beautiful

similar could be said for being fat.......to an anorexic i'm fat

............there are far better/more specific descriptions than fat

If we weighed her on a height for weight chart, she should be 11 foot 9 inches so really, she is just too short.....Is that better.

It shouldn't matter what the joke is. if somebody makes a joke, or indeed, comments seriously, on somebody's physical appearance and you don't react with sympathy to the victim or a little angst towards the Attacker, it probably says more about you than everybody else involved.

Robertocarlo 23-06-2015 03:50 PM

Problem is she is fat. She's certainly not slim is she. If you're overweight then get over it and do something about losing some weight. I used to weigh 16 stone but am now down to 11 1/2 stone. It takes hard work and a good diet. No reason to look porky my love.

What a terrible attitude to have especially from someone who was over weight too. I'm sure "fat" people are well aware they're fat, they don't need people trying to make them feel s**t by mocking them over it. I don't understand why people want to condone nastiness all of a sudden by excusing it as honesty.

rubymoo 23-06-2015 03:55 PM

IMO the word fat is a negative descriptive word, surely we shouldn't be insulting others looks/weight, i thought name calling was left in the playground:bored:

Sorry but I worked very hard at the gym for several years to maintain my body weight and physique. I came second in a bodybuilding contest last year at the age of 60!!! At the gym I go to there are fat people who joined the same time I did and several years later they're still fat!? They need to be told quite bluntly they're fat and to do something about it like exercise and diet. I no longer believe in pussy footing around with PC language with fatties. They won't change until they are given a real jolt to change their lives around.

Jack_ 23-06-2015 03:59 PM

A joke is a joke, I'm sure most people can take them, but when people start using terms like 'fat' and 'ugly' or other insults related to people's appearances when talking about them, they just make themselves look nasty, pathetic and insecure. It's so unnecessary.

Jake. 23-06-2015 04:01 PM

how is chloe fat :joker:

No it's not. People have soft toed around such subjects for far too long now and the nation is getting fatter. You need to use shock tactics and language to make these people diet. Otherwise the NHS will fold under the weight of fat patients.

Do you think that people who are overweight wouldn't realise that they're fat if you didn't tell them then?

They know they're fat but choose to carry on munching and slouching about. I was woken up to the fact I was morbidly obese (fat) when I had some heart and blood pressure problems. It was a wake up call and I did something about it changing my life around totally.

So you decided when you were ready to...good for you. Making people feel like a piece of s**t is usually not the best motivator though.

an interesting question............if the bmi of mark and chloe was compared

........which would be the greater?

fat is largely a perception.............and as another member pointed out

us grown ups...no longer have need for such childish insults

he doesn't comment serious..he pokes fun....I'm as fit as a bag of crisps and as strong as a jelly baby and i thought it was hilarious. I've always poked fun with friends and they always poke fun with me and i wouldn't be the least bit bother by the joke said in a good humored way ...He is a nice guy and you making him out to be horrible

Victim and attacker..you cheapen the words when you portray it like that and it should offend anyone who had truly abused verbally or otherwise

Absorption 23-06-2015 04:39 PM

The problem is that many people who accuse others of being fat, especially those in the media, would have us believe that a size 0 model is the epitome of health.

There is a happy medium but I'd rather someone had Chloe's figure than was verging on skeletal.

Maybe that's the difference.. They're not friends and he isn't a nice person.. Jokes that make others upset are not okay.. Obviously.. And to repeat the jokes that weren't okay the first time round is proof to me that he isn't a nice person.

i guess that depends how you define friends? are Danny and jack friends? nick and harry? They have a level of familiarity from a shared experience..Tasks done together..laughs shared...dinners...life stories exchanged...that is friends enough to me to poke fun...

you know like chloe..making a joke about Sam fingering herself..but i guess if she said "you should watch gold finger AND you are as fit as a packet of crisps" then it would be horrible and you could tell chloe was not a nice person

It sounds like you're saying that Chloe making sex jokes about Sam are inappropriate but Marc making fat jokes about Chloe are hilarious?

No....I"m saying they are on about the same level and it is unfair to condemn one as a bad person unless you are going to condemn the other as well...More over..as long as Chloe feels it ok to make jokes about Sam fingering herself ..she has no right to be offended by a fat joke.

I do disagree with everything that you're saying, I'm just trying to work out your point. I Don't think the situations are remotely similar.

Chloe's joke, although arguably distasteful, did have some witty side to it. I genuinely believe if Sam appeared upset by the joke (instead of the shock and confused reaction) Chloe would have apologised. The main difference for me is that Marc repeatedly uses the same "joke" (the joke which involves zero wit), and decided to repeat the joke although it upsets people. He has never apologised for the joke but has instead tried to spin it in them "why can't you take a joke"

I don't see any similarities really, Chloe has never repeated a joke and definitely wouldn't if she saw it upset people. Marc's jokes are not even technically witty, it's just a cruel dig that he justifies as banter and will repeatedly do so despite the upset it may cause.

I understand you disagree and that you think the situations are super similar so I'm just wondering if you think they're both in the right and they're hilarious or they're both in the wrong and gone too far.

Dollface 23-06-2015 05:48 PM

The attitudes of some supposed adults are disgraceful. I'd expect people that have been overweight to be a bit more understanding, but nope. Even Nikki who has suffered with anorexia made a dig at someones weight last night. It's all really pathetic.
Chloe isn't fat, she isn't stick thin either but she isn't fat.
