Celebrity Fame Academy

Anyone else been watching this? Its worth watching just for Ruby Wax - she sings almost as well as I do.

But the star has got to be Kwame - he has a fantastic voice - can remember when he was on Night Fever he always stole the show then.

Any other views?

rachb 09-03-2003 04:44 PM

I like this aswell busybee kwami is the best but I think ruby will stay because people are finding it funny to hear her terrible voice:hugesmile:
I don't think I'd be any better:blush::blush:

Kaz 09-03-2003 05:06 PM

We've been discussing this on THIS THREAD so far, BusyBee - but you're quite right . . . . . . it deserves a thread of its own.

Kwame's by far the best singer, but my fave so far is Jo. I'll be voting to keep her in tonight. :hello:

Kaz 09-03-2003 08:11 PM

:bawling: :bawling: :bawling: Gutted! :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

Oh well, never mind. :spin2: Thought it might have been John who went tonight, though. Will was tremendous, Ruby was incredible!!!

Why have they put Kwame on probation? To get as many people as possible ringing up to save him, I think - and in the process raise as much money as they can for Comic Relief.

They're all doing fantastically well - roll on tomorrow night. :hello:

Di2001 09-03-2003 08:27 PM

I thought Will sang really well tonight.

(Oh and I liked Ulrika's top! (crochet I think)).

peachy 10-03-2003 08:31 AM

I hope that John stays in tonight. Kwame is a good singer but he's a bit precious. For those of you without the live feed (why have the Beeb not used BBC3?) I'll give you my thoughts so far. Firstly, Kwame, you should have seen his reaction to being on probation. He was really cross about it. When they watched the play back he thought he was pretty good and that he should never have been put on probation. Ruby is undoubtedly the star of the show, but Doon and John are also really funny and thoroughly nice. Ulrika is an utter pain. It was a shame that Jo went but she never really got into it. I would have loved to have seen more of Jo and Ruby chatting together as they were truly hilarious.

BigSister 10-03-2003 03:15 PM

Yeah I saw it on the live feed, Kwame was very cross
I think John will stay, he will get saved by the students if not the puble, Kwame might get saved by the public so that means Ulrika will go
That is my prediction I will probably get it wrong

:elephant::elephant::elephant::elephant:

Kaz 10-03-2003 08:21 PM

So it was 'bye bye' John tonight. :bawling:

I thought it was the right decision - the song just didn't suit his personality . . . . unlike Ruby's! Isn't she er, er, indescribable!!! Sheer entertainment. :spin2:

Kwame sang beautifully and fully deserved to win the public vote. Doon didn't really do her song justice - too difficult, I think. And I thought Will gave quite a lacklustre performance.

So it's Ulrika, Doon and Will singing for survival. My feeling is that Doon might well go tomorrow.

:dazzler:

em 10-03-2003 08:49 PM

noo! Doon cant go!!! Ulrika needs to go! Doon is great!!

Mairi 10-03-2003 08:52 PM

I thoroughly enjoyed Will's performance tonight. It was so nice to hear him sing a ballad, for a change.

Ruby really is something else, isn't she? Pure entertainment, like you say Kaz. You just can't help smiling but if we're going for voice, she really doesn't have one, does she?

Ulrika continues to surprise me and I hope she stays in till the end.

I think Doon will go tomorrow, too.

I have a feeling that either Will or Kwame will win.

:dazzler:

Janette 10-03-2003 09:04 PM

Ulrika - Sang so much better tonight, slightly off in parts but practically unrecognisable from the terrified child that sang on the first show.

John - Bless him, he tried so hard!

Kwame - I'm so glad that he was on probation tonight, the teachers were spot on saying that he needed to contain his singing and not be so flamboyant, he really did them proud tonight!

Ruby - Utterly fantastic, even though she is doing this for comedy value, her voice has seriously improved!

Doon - Sang one of my all-time favourite songs, and very nearly got it right. Excellent!

Will - DDDRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yeah he was ok!)

blinkinlovely 10-03-2003 09:43 PM

That was such a difficult song that John had .. not fair. I thought that he tried really well and hopefully it will be bye bye Ukrika tomorrow, I see someone has already described her as a pain:dance:.

As for Ruby wee... I bet her kids are well and truly embarassed now! Go Girl!!!:xyxwave:

kaphc 11-03-2003 02:20 PM

I've really got into watching this via the interactive bit on BBC1! It's great watching them rehearsing.

Tonight, Ruby is singing "Money. Money, Money" a la Fiddler on the Roof Topol style for part of it - should be really good!

Ulrika is singing "Close to You" (Carpenters song) but may well be out tonight as she's not that great at the moment. She sais she is expectiong to go.

Will is singing Handbags and Gladrags which is a shame as it's one of my favourite songs and at the moment he's over-singing it.

Kwame is doing "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal and Doon is doing some 70s disco number that I don't know the name of.

At the moment I want Ruby to win! Kwame is too good, Will is too arrogant, Doon is too "Who's she?" and Ulrika's too competitive!

:dazzler::dazzler:

peachy 11-03-2003 03:30 PM

Oh please make Ulrika go. Did you see her behaviour at the photo shoot that they had last night in the ballroom after the show. Talk about a prima donna. If whinging was an olympic sport she'd win the gold medal for Sweden. I was sorry that John went he was such a genuine guy, (couldn't sing but who cares). Ulrika has already been horrible to Doon, who is LOVELY. Just hope she goes tonight. :xyxwave::xyxwave:

BigSister 11-03-2003 07:25 PM

Its going to be very intresting tommorow

I think Ruby could go but I hope not, i like her:hugesmile:

:elephant::elephant::elephant::elephant:

BusyBee 11-03-2003 08:16 PM

I think Ruby will go tomorrow too. There are only so many songs she can murder. She is entertaining to watch, but a singer she is not.

Was glad Ulrika went - did you see how she flashed her smile for effect when she noticed the camera was on her?:hugesmile:

Kaz 11-03-2003 09:28 PM

I'm not sure that Ruby will go tomorrow - the public (and me!) absolutely love her!

She's the only one who truly gives an entertaining performance. The others are better singers, granted - but that's not what this programme's all about. :dazzler:

Thought both Will and Kwame were excellent tonight. I didn't care much for the song that Doon sang, and it wasn't her best by any means.

My money's on Doon to go tomorrow - but my track record of predicting hasn't been very good so far.

blinkinlovely 11-03-2003 10:31 PM

I had a 'Ruby won ' dream last nightOh dear....:conf::conf::conf::conf:
I'd love her to win tough as Kwa.. something is just too good and I don't think celeb FA is about being good/a star. Missed tonights show (i was marking and it's just on TOO EARLY!!!!!!)

What did they all sing?

Maggie 12-03-2003 11:33 AM

:dazzler: I watched it and really enjoyed it :dazzler:
Watching them on interactive through the day they mostly sing their songs a lot better than on the nightly show.
They sang these songs last night blinkinlovely.

Ruby - Money Money Money

Ulrika - Close to you

Will - Handbags and Gladrags

Kwame - Kiss from a Rose

Doon - Somebody Else's Guy

Ooops showing my age with that last one which I love, everyone always gets up to dance to it at do's

Maggie 12-03-2003 04:20 PM

I've been watching them today and tonight's show looks very funny, their's doing duet's and a song all together at the end with Andrew Lloyd-Webber on piano

:elephant: :dazzler: :dazzler: :dazzler: :dazzler: :elephant:

It seems a shame any of them have to go :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

Di2001 12-03-2003 05:59 PM

I watched it interactive last night. Nigella Lawson was in the house and she cooked them supper. They had chicken, peas and "melt in the mouth" mash followed by slut red (yes!!) raspberries and chardonnay jelly.

Yum yum!!

Janette 12-03-2003 07:06 PM

WILL TO WIN

I am so in lust!!!!!!!

:love::love::love::love::love:

(What is it with me and men called Will?)

BusyBee 12-03-2003 07:15 PM

In the spirit of Comic Relief - vote for Ruby. She epitomises the whole concept of the Comic Relief ethos.

:hugesmile::dance:

Think I've been swallowing a dictionary today - got my clever head on. Dont worry it will be gone tomorrow.:joker::joker:

True .....she is also 'tone deaf' I think.

I have enjoyed her antics but not her singing !

kaphc 12-03-2003 09:02 PM

I was surprised tonight that Kwame and Will got the public vote. I still want Ruby to win!!!

This programme is so cool and all the celebrities really seem to have bonded together so it's almost like a little BB2 atmosphere going on. I thought Doon was going to cry tonight - not because she was sad at going home, but because she was going to miss her mates so much.

:bawling::bawling:

Vote for Ruby - you know it makes no sense!!!

Kaz 12-03-2003 09:16 PM

Excellent programme tonight - they all sang their hearts out.

I thought the duets were excellent, especially Will and Doon. She didn't seem nearly so nervous as when she sang solo.

I did think Kwame and Will would get the public vote - but it was nailbiting stuff at the end when it went down to who was third with the public.

Really enjoying this - pity it's only on for the week. Roll on tomorrow!!!

:dazzler:

James 12-03-2003 11:20 PM

I didn't see it earlier but I'm watching the repeat at the moment.

Here's some screenshots from Tuesday's BBC3 show.

Malachi Cush was in the studio, by the way.

blinkinlovely 13-03-2003 05:45 AM

when is the repeat shown?? 7pm is just too early for me!!!!!:bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling::bawlin g:

Kaz 13-03-2003 08:41 AM

I was watching the live stream in the Academy after last night's show, and Kwame, Will and Ruby were getting a fantastic massage session. It was almost hypnotic to watch.

All I can say is I WANT ONE! They looked to be in absolutely heaven. Lucky, lucky people.

They should all be raring to go tonight now!!

P.S. I'm with Janette . . . . . Go Will! :dazzler:

Amy 13-03-2003 09:04 AM

I am soooooo addicted to this show, as you you can tell by my lack of posts over the past few days! Ruby is BRILLIANT :hello: she is so funny!Shame Doon went last night i thought she sang well with Will! I think Will may win, although i'd prefer Ruby to win more :wavey:

Maggie 13-03-2003 10:47 AM

The repeat is shown somewhere around 12 TO 12 AM on BB3.

Lemar was there last night and I've just heard Cary Grant saying to Ruby that Will and Kwame are better than last year Fame Academy students exepect for Lemar :dazzler: and both would get record contracts if they wanted them, their that good :dazzler: :joker: :dazzler:

Maggie 13-03-2003 11:50 AM

Their's each singing 2 songs tonight :dazzler: One they have done before  and a new one, then the last two after the vote will sing one more song :dazzler:

I'm not sure which yet, as I have heard mostly Ruby today singing Leader of the Pack over and over and Help

Will, I've heard singing Up Town Girl :dazzler:

Ruby very sure she is going tonight

Just to make you feel jealous Kaz - when I go to my health spa week-end I shall definitely be booking up for the massage - maybe I'll get a PC lookalike:devil::devil:

To be serious I am enjoying the celebrity Fame Academy much more than the real one. I got bored with that.

BigSister 13-03-2003 03:18 PM

I really really want Ruby to win but I think Kwame will. If Ruby doesnt win I want Will too:hugesmile:

It was sooo nail biting last night though, I was sure Ruby was going, shows how much confidence I have in her lol

last friday first show 7.6m (?) and then saturday 6.7 then sunday against Corrie - 5.8m.

Romantic Old Bird 13-03-2003 05:57 PM

No fight with you lot for Will on this one.

Nope, not my bag man. I don't like the eyebrow thing, makes him look a bit rough IMHO. (How fuddy duddy am I? I know)

He was on the Saturday Show with Helen when she was promoting her dance vidoe wasn't he?

splodge0 13-03-2003 06:06 PM

This was my five penny worth. Hope you all agree........... :colour:

I am concerned that that the BBC are not capitalizing on all the hard work that has gone into Fame Academy. Having bitten the bullet and recognised the growing market in reality TV and successfully beaten the competition at their own game, it would be a crying shame if Celebrity Fame Academy doesn't trigger a second season of a program which is in its infancy. May I point out a parallel? When Big Brother's first series was screened it was an experiment. It was the second series that was by most commentators’ judgement the most successful and the one which brought such a strong fan base.
The obvious success of the current Red Nose Fame Academy underlines the strength of the format. I personally hate wasted resources and if the BBC does not realize the dividend due to them I will feel cheated of one of the best bits of television I have enjoyed to date.
As an aside, has anyone considered that far from writing the Academy off as just another reality program it has the potential of breaking yet more new ground. If one expands the concept why not run it as a form of ongoing "soap", (my apologies for the term)? In other words, since watching people striving to learn and be rewarded with success is clearly addictive, why not run Fame Academy as a 52 week live steaming experiment in further education? Given the withdrawal symptoms viewers exhibit when Fame Academy and similar genre finish, there has to be a huge market for a real life "Fame".
