Age Differences
So after hearing that a friends friend (same age as me) is dating an 18 year old, it got me thinking. On one hand I was like thinking that it's bit taboo and weird, but then I thought, wait, it's like a 3 year difference and thats fine, if they were older and the friends friend was now 18 and her partner now 22, no one would blink an eye..
What do y'all think? Is it right or wrong? |
I don't know, they aren't even 16 yet and i find it weird how a 18 year old is dating a school student.
|
Either way you look at it, imo, an 18 year old and older being with someone under 18 is illegal and fundamentally wrong.
|
It depends on the situation. If it's a relationship between someone below 16 and 18 then it can be wrong and in cases, illegal.
|
If you're over 17 it's fine imo (assuming it's a reasonable age gap) over 21 any age gap is fine, a 15 year old dating an 18 year old is wrong, probably predatory on his part too

To me if you're 18 and older I don't care who you're with. Anything below that, nope.

Age gaps between adults, depending on how big the gap is, can be a bit creepy at times but at the end of the day they're old enough and mature enough to make that decision to go into the relationship. However, if the gap is between an adult and someone under 18/16(!!) then I don't see how that could ever be 'right' really.

Im 21 and my preference is my own age or older. I wouldnt be particularly interested in anybody over a year younger than me.

Creepy.
I once knew of a 16 year old boy going out with a 12 year old girl. I think that's just disgusting |

Thats illegal

It isnt okay for a child to date an adult.. An age difference between two adults does not bother me at all.
|
Once over the age of consent it different. Under the age of 16 it is wrong but once then there it's different. I speak from experience but I was 22 when I fell for someone older. Had the same age gap happened when I was 16 or younger then there may have been an argument
|
Depends totally on the couple..but no hanky panky before aged 16 should be fine. Keep it all legal.
|
I don't care if there's an age difference. There were twelve years between my parents. I hate people who say the man is supposed to be older, too.

Well it's wrong because she is a minor. But 15 year old's can look a lot older than their age (heck, I know of a 12 year old that looks 20+) so this 18 year old could have liked her before even knowing her age and if she is older in mind/body then he might even forget her age when he is hanging out with her. It would be sensible for them to wait until she was of age (16+) until they did anything intimate together. If he loves her and she loves him, then I don't see why they shouldn't be together -- but they shouldn't be having sex, that's a no-no until she turns 16.
|
Ultimately it depends on the individuals. I don't see how anybody can assume based on age alone. Obviously keep it non sexual until 16 either way, but it's totally possible for a 15 and a 18 year old to be on the same or similar maturity levels to handle a relationship.

But to answer the question no an 18 year old shouldn't be dating a 15 year old. |
3 year rule for me but in your case, it's weird.

I'm sorry Jords I don't know your sexuality so I played the bisexual angle to keep it safe. |
My boyfriend is actually a few years older than me, the only people who had an issue with it was my step dad and my bfs mum, we got together when I was 16 and him 19 and I am now 17 and he is 20. I lied and said he was younger at first because people are so judgemental it just stopped questions.
Age is just a number imo |
When I was in highschool, my friend (15 at the time) was dating a 19 year old. They didn't have sex until she was older than 16. It seemed weird to me at the time (she was the same age as me), but she was fairly mature for her age and though I never met the guy, he seemed respectable and normal. I think it would seem slightly pervy if the older person was well over 20, but I don't think there is that much difference between 15/16 and 19. I think it really depends on the situation though, I've always preferred people much older than me and at the moment I'm doing a film course with people who are 17/18 and being 24 now, they seem quite immature and like spotty teenagers and I couldn't ever imagine dating one of them.
