plans to remove a section on feminism from the politics A-level syllabus.

How Very Nice

[Women's rights campaigners
have reacted with fury over
plans to remove a section on
feminism from the politics A-level syllabus.
The proposed changes would
remove all mentions of feminism,
sex and gender, with only one
female political thinker
mentioned by name.
The suffragette movement
is squeezed into a section
on pressure groups.]

Great news! And I'm sure it won't be long until all optional critical thinking/social science/political based subjects are removed from the curriculum altogether, so that every adolescent can emerge from schools, sixth forms and colleges politically unaware and apathetic, regurgitating the same hegemonic ideologies that the media perpetuates, and turn them all into work-obsessed, individualistic, materialistic, mindless cogs in a wheel at the mercy of exploitation for the rest of their lives, rejecting any alternative strains of thought because 'that's just way life is and the way the world works'.

A truly promising future for the next generation

The worse thing about that for me is the Suffragettes being known as a 'pressure group'. Suddenly all their great work seems tainted. This rewriting of history is already happening in America with Texas trying to change the syllabus on history and in particular slavery to make it look like the slave came to America voluntarily.

http://www.theguardian.com/education...-workers-texas

This rewriting of history will happen more and more IMO

'Under the old syllabus, a whole module was dedicated to ‘knowledge of the core ideas, doctrines and theories of feminist thought, of tensions within feminism and of competing feminist traditions’. In the proposed new syllabus, the feminism section has been removed and instead there is a section on pressure groups.

This is the context... Basically they're taking the who, what, where and why and just leaving the who.

feminist revisionism has brain washed a generation.....this is a good thing
men and women have equal laws now, that part of the fight is over, so feminism is dead
feminists need to get a job now. meanwhile perhaps they can teach these kids the full context of these fights for rights. They don't even teach kids about Lloyd George, the genius, the greatest politician who ever lived, who gave all working class people the vote for the first time , yes that's women AND men, who gave us the welfare state and NI contributions and lead to the NHS and even taxed the rich for the 1st time. oh he also helped from extinction and won the first world war. Churchill was a minion compared to LG

All that's left is equal rights for women and men and everyone else
starting with disabled and elderly people

Not true.

Northern Monkey 20-11-2015 02:06 PM

It's hard to know without context but maybe there are other topics which need to be added and it's tough for them to cram it all into the syllabus so some other topics get less attention?

I know men are disadvantaged in the way they lose their kids and their health is underfunded by a few billion compared to women, I presume that's the imbalance you refere too...In the UK there are a few laws that favour the women over men , divorce courts especially. but other than that its a level playing field.

There are inequalities on both sides of the scale. They are not a level playing field.

Awful but not surprising considering the government we've got. I hope this news picks up traction so that the decision can be rightfully undone.

Can't win? Your argument is literally based on nothing but your imagination. you talk in general terms without being specific about anything because you can't back up anything you say as it has no basis in reality.

All you do is what most bigots do, distract attention away from things that make you uncomfortable. Whenever an issue comes up like women's or gay rights, you charge into the thread and try to take it off topic by ranting on an on about imaginary issues and acting like Gay people or women shouldn't be allowed to talk about their rights because there's 434893249 foetuses being aborted every second or millions of men commiit suicide because of evil women or whatever BS you spout to take things off topic.

There's no argument to be won because everything you have to say is based around imaginary issues so that you can make out that men are some great victims of injustice when we quite simply aren't. You have a victim complex.

personal abuse as always. You just ignore the facts and the nasty male hate that is at the heart of much of radical feminism. the fact you mock and sneer about millions of aborted babies and the suicides of millions of men really sums you up. shame on you, now back on topic. why do they not even teach these students about Lloyd George? is that because they don't want to acknowledge that 1) a man fought to give women the vote and 2) working class men didn't have the right to vote either just over 100 years ago, why don't radical feminists ever mention this? they teach its a mans world right? lol what a joke

So your suggestion when it comes to teaching Feminism in politics is to marginalize women even further to focus on the men? Unreal.

Smithy 21-11-2015 08:00 PM

honestly if you didn't hate men beforehand you'd only have to read a few of thetruths posts before you did

T* 21-11-2015 08:10 PM

i'm just putting it out there but pure misogyny shouldn't be allowed in here as an 'opinion' or a 'debate' to be quite honest; especially (not this one as i guess its sort of relevant) threads that the topic isn't about sexism in the first place..
Don't infract me please but i just think it turns people away.
