Why do UK pop girls always become UK flop girls

Leona
Alexandra
Pixie Lott
Duffy
Eliza Doolittle
Cher Lloyd
Lily Allen (to an extent with her new album)
Ellie Goulding (as above after LMLYD you'd expect her album to smash)

there's probably more but i just can't think of any

The first 6 for sure had massive first era's but they were quickly dropped by brits in their following era's, why?

MB. 29-12-2015 03:53 PM

Duffy had a second era?

Pete. 29-12-2015 03:53 PM

This happens to every pop artist in the end except for the obvious exceptions (Madge etc)

EspeonBB 29-12-2015 03:54 PM

The UK are so disloyal to their pop girls compared to the U.S. :worry:

Adele broke the curse though!

Pete. 29-12-2015 03:54 PM

But yeah the UK pop girls flop the hardest :(

It's usually the girls that explode onto the scene that flop hardest, adele, paloma, little mix (ellie too i guess) all debuted kind averagely but then just grew from there

Shaun 29-12-2015 03:58 PM

the BRITS/BBC tend to pump more and more energy into promoting new music and artists and then just toss them to the side  unless you're under 25 and only one album into your career (or you're part of a massive label with milions to buy them out), Radio 1 aren't gonna be interested.

Maybe it's because the girls in the OP have big debut eras and can't live up to the hype in the second era. Plus they lose the whole 'brand new artist' shtick too

I mourn Little Boots' career to this day

Ashley. 29-12-2015 04:05 PM

Lily Allen never flopped. :nono:

Sheezus undeniably underperformed compared to INYIM, plus it was (arguably) a much weaker album

Samm 29-12-2015 04:06 PM

Lily isn't a flop and is way above all of em

(not including Ellie) (I don't stan Ellie but why is she on here?)

LukeB 29-12-2015 04:06 PM

Ellie didn't flop

EspeonBB 29-12-2015 04:07 PM

Delirium is kinda flopping despite LMLYD and On My Mind being smashes :worry:

It underperformed yes, but still got number one and she was widely talked about and Air Balllom and Hard Out Here were mediocre hits, so clearly isn't a "flop"!

She got bigger with every album/rerelease, plus she was featured on some of the biggest songs of the past couple of years with Outside & I Need Your Love and with the huge success of LMLYD you'd have just expected the demand for her newest album to be a lot higher than what it was, it only debuted at 3

the album is doing well, not as well as her others but isn't doing badly, Gold Certification isn't bad.

Pete. 29-12-2015 04:09 PM

Justice for Air Balloon

King Gizzard 29-12-2015 04:09 PM

Air Balloon is her best song

Smithy 29-12-2015 04:10 PM

I didn't say they both flopped, i just said to an extent, meaning they're both underperforming compared to their previous success'

underperforming, but maybe flop means different to you, to be it means there album major failed and hardly anybody knew they had another era like Duffy and Eliza

It went #1 but it was her lowest first week sales to date

Nailed it. We don't support longevity.

yeah true, but I think that's more to do with sales in general at the moment. Exceptions aside, it sold pretty much the same/a bit more as other albums which went to #1

I wonder who'll be next to go out of Foxes and Jess Glynne

Foxes is already there really isn't she?

Jamie89 29-12-2015 04:16 PM

It's just the music industry isn't it. Fickle. And women especially have a harder time because there is more of an emphasis on their appearance than men, so getting older, and maturer with age, not wanting to be a sex object etc. will all be factors. And the UK industry doesn't have the wealth of the US market to continually push established artists so they're pretty much left to their own devices after they've had their peak.

looking at the sales, she was lucky she released when she did, the week before she'd have been blocked and the week after https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_i...ber-one_albums
