24/7 legally edited Live Feed is still run internally every series (apparently).

According to Oathy on Twitter.

This is actually quite interesting, and further confuses me as to why Channel 5 still refuse to give it to us. What's the point in running it for no-one to see? Surely, if anything should be put down to 'cost', it should be running a live feed without an audience?

Pete. 06-06-2016 05:46 PM

Obviously Rylan makes no secret of the fact that he gets live feed in his dressing room

MB. 06-06-2016 05:46 PM

They have to run it because they're the producers and otherwise they'd have no idea what's happening in their own show

Headie 06-06-2016 05:46 PM

Is this the guy from DS who emails Ben Frow

Greg! 06-06-2016 05:46 PM

Well obvs. They're not going to film them for just a few hours a day

Ross. 06-06-2016 05:47 PM

How else would they make the highlights show

Headie 06-06-2016 05:48 PM

(but yeah isn't it obvious the producers/editors have access to live feed )

Imagine if they didn't have Live Feed, you'd get housemates being called to the diary room like 5 hours after an altercation happened :joker:

*mazedsalv** 06-06-2016 05:48 PM

Yeah he's the same guy who emails Ben Frow.

zakman440 06-06-2016 05:49 PM

Well obviously they still have to run it, but the fact that they're paying staff to edit it on the fly for legal reasons is interesting because they don't have to do that. If no-one's watching, they can just record it and edit it once the footage has been collected.

Like....

:joker::joker:

Marsh. 06-06-2016 05:59 PM

erm, obviously there's still a live feed. They still film 24/7.

But what's the point in the legal editing when it's never broadcast?

Do they actually still bother with the birdie noises? :joker: Whoever does that job is on one hell of a cushy job.

Cal. 06-06-2016 06:00 PM

Everyone wants a live feed now besides Viacom themselves. Ben Frow and the show runners want it now.

By the sounds of it, it's Frow that's putting a stop to it this time.

Jordan. 06-06-2016 06:07 PM

Where's the live feed?

So they can control and show what they want the general viewing public to see.

Mess wasn't it Ben Frow's idea to bring back Vote to Evict for civillian BB, yet he's not bringing back Live Feed when that's far better than VTE ever was/is

Jamesy 06-06-2016 06:26 PM

Maybe 'legally edited' means the feed is on a 10 minute delay, and the live editors chop and cut out stuff not fit for broadcast/break Ofcom rules, then when the producers and highlights editors pick out what they want to show on the highlights they have very little editing to do, since the live editors have done the hard work.

Or Ben Frow is a tit, take your pick.

JJ. 06-06-2016 06:28 PM

If one housemate was to say something like "my friend Selina used to be a prostitute" I doubt they would have that go out unedited to hundreds of employees, because if that got back to the aforementioned Selina she could sue for defame and the production team wouldn't have a leg to stand on as even with NDAs they wouldn't be able to trace who the person was who leaked it. And whether it's true or not, it's legally messy.

I reckon visual feeds are unedited internally but some audio is monitored 24/7 and cut by a much smaller team for the rest of the employees/visitors internally.

A public feed online would require further censoring, for example of them singing songs which they haven't got a license for, or perhaps talking about their contract. The broadcast version would require further still editing to comply with Ofcom and the watershed.

Jason. 06-06-2016 06:28 PM

Wasn't Ben Frow the same person who sacked Brian and gave Emma the main show?

And yet they've allowed Rylan to infest every corner of the show. :bored:

zakman440 06-06-2016 06:46 PM

I'd keep this in mind - if the ratings turn out to be quite bad then this may well come in to play.

Live Feed is never coming back, let it go tbh

Jason. 06-06-2016 06:59 PM

And tbh with so much that's wrong with the show nowadays, idc about live feed anymore. Yeah it would be nice if we had it, but the shoddy production we've had in the last 2 years is the thing that's tarnishing the show even further atm.

drantb 06-06-2016 07:00 PM

Well obviously, hence why it's all the more infuriating we don't get the option either.

Put it on YouTube, Put it on Periscope, ****, even Facebook has live feed options now - the world caught up with Big Brother and now it's gone backwards and has **** all to separate it from every other reality show that grew because of it and it's bizarre.

Sure there's costs there, but I reckon if they got rid of all that music they use throughout the series to pair with those garish, hackneyed and downright ugly montage sequences, they could probably afford an online feed.

Not the royalty fees for David Guetta albums taking up the budget.

Wizard. 06-06-2016 07:08 PM

I think by edited I think it means bird and helicopter sounds

James 06-06-2016 07:50 PM

The main cost of the 24/7 live feed isn't the production. It's the cost of having to provide a whole TV channel that could be showing other programmes that earn more.

They could do a subscription Internet feed, but let's be honest, not that many people would subscribe and watch if it was behind a paywall.

They could do a non-subscription internet feed? They wouldn't need to devote a whole TV channel then, and people wouldn't be put off by a subscription service.

Imo, the only reason they don't do it is because they don't want to give up editorial control.

Maxxie. 06-06-2016 07:57 PM

They could do it for free tbh, Canada does.

They have to cover the bandwidth costs. The more people watch the more it costs.

Actually I did some rough calculations there, based on how many people I think would watch, and it would be do-able for a subscription feed. But if they did it for free online they risk hundreds of thousands watching on average, and it would cost them millions.

It might partly also to do with editorial control now in that Celebrity Big Brother is so important for them, and they want to have the option of giving certain celebrities privileges - like Rylan leaving the house to go to X Factor tour auditions. Live feed would make that difficult to hide.

If Big Brother Turkey can do a 24/7 live stream on YouTube for free then I think BBUK can afford it lmao

It's never coming back tho everyone needs to move on

zakman440 06-06-2016 08:46 PM

For the record, Frow was apparently happy with how the feed was going when it switched to online in 2013.

12bigbrother12 06-06-2016 08:50 PM

We don't have live feed because they don't want us to see BB employees directing housemates, watching housemates leave for X Factor tour rehearsals and going to the British embassy before coming back and announcing they met up with a co-worker. It has nothing to do with cost, it is so we don't know all the shady stuff they try to keep us from knowing.

It's easier to run a show when you don't have to meet the audience's expectations 24 hours a day.
