Looks amazing!

Played the demo, pretty damn scary, can imagine it being utterly terrifying in VR. This is definately survival horror.

Tom4784 14-06-2016 02:28 PM

Intriguing demo, I'm really interested in seeing what the actual game is like though.

Scarlett. 15-06-2016 01:34 AM

Some details

- Set after RE6
- Will have unknown protagonist, who is an everyday person (not BSAA)
- Demo is a prequel
- Set on an abandoned mansion plantation
- Has weapons (there is even an axe in the demo)
- There is a photo of an Umbrella helicopter hidden in the demo.

Does this not sort of feel like an entirely different game with the Resi name slapped onto it? Not that it means it won't be a good game of course, I'd just rather see an entirely new IP if they're going to change the game play AND cast significantly. I guess we'll see if it properly ties together, storyline wise, I'll def. buy it of course because I'm still a Resi fanboy :hee: even though Resi 6 was a bit of a shambles.

This also looks like quite serious / straight horror. If so I'll miss the over-the-top campness of earlier games. Still think Resi 4 hit a sweet spot that will never be found again. "Meester Scott Kennedee".

Amy Jade 15-06-2016 07:56 AM

Not a fan of the trailer, doesn't even feel like a RE game and nothing really even creeped me out. I'll hopefully enjoy the demo more.

Scarlett. 15-06-2016 11:32 AM

There is a picture of an Umbrella helicopter hidden in the demo, its clear something happened at this mansion plantation, possibly to do with the remenants of Umbrella. I think this is a great new step for Resi, it needed to go back to being just about exploring a mansion after the mess that was Resi 6.

Tom4784 15-06-2016 11:59 AM

Yeah, I enjoyed the demo but it really didn't feel like RE, it kinda felt like Capcom were trying to cash in on the Silent Hills cancellation and the fact that first person horror games are in vogue.

Scarlett. 15-06-2016 08:50 PM

It's a new direction for the series, but it desperately needed it

RE: Mansion
RE2: City
RE3: City
RE4: Spain
and here is where it went off the tracks
RE5: Africa - ends with a boulder punching fight IN A VOLCANO
RE6: WORLDWIDE! SPIDER SENATOR! T REX CAR CHASE!
RE7: Mansion and surrounding plantation

Yes, it does borrow from PT a bit, but Capcom poached a lot of Koji Pro's people who were working on PT, the idea of this game I feel, is to bring back the mystery, we might see some old RE faces around Dulvey, I mean, it's a given that Neo Umbrella are involved, given that the people in the house were being watched by an Umbrella chopper. Also, this demo felt different to PT, Outlast and the rest, in that we got a weapon, there is also an option for aim assist in the menu too, which means we will have a gun.

RE VII is the first Resi game that has potential to be scary since the early days.

Dollface 15-06-2016 08:56 PM

I hated RE6 so hopefully this one will be tons better. I loved the old Resi games.

Dollface 15-06-2016 08:58 PM

Wait it's in first-person? wtf ugh

Apparently only the demo is in first person.

I don't think it needed a new direction. It just needed to revisit the old direction with modern sensibilities. That's what people really want from RE and it's why REVII is getting such a mixed reaction because it really feels like this RE game is simply following the pack.

I'm hoping they reveal some actual gameplay footage soon so we know what we're actually dealing with. I love the return to horror but I still want it to be an RE game, not Outlast, not Five Nights at Freddy's, not Silent Hill.

Resident Evil needs to be Resident Evil.

Scarlett. 15-06-2016 11:07 PM

The main game will be first person too. I don't think revisiting the old sensibilities would have worked, unless they literally went back to fixed camera tank controls. There's obviously going to be much more to this game, since we haven't even met a proper enemy yet (the dude in the demo doesn't count, he's scripted to appear behind you), I don't think this will be a hide and seek game like Outlast, we've got an axe in the demo, we're clearly gonna have a gun at some point in the full game too. I think it's likely they're revisiting old RE4 ideas with a new twist. The new virus is possibly an hallucinogenic, which would explain the more supernatural twist. It's gonna be actually interesting finding out what happened, and not just having Las Plagas all over again.

Silent Hill with a mix of Outlast = winner.

What was the song in the trailer btw? I really liked it.

Mystic Mock 21-06-2016 12:41 PM

Btw is it just me that preferred Resi 6 to Resi 5? At least Resi 6 looked more scary which is not saying much as neither was very scary.

"Go Tell Aunt Rhody" but its a version specifically made for RE7.

While it does look kinda like SH/Outlast in the trailer, the final game will have weapons, so I don't think we'll be seeing a hiding mechanic.

Well I've never heard the original version, but I really like this version of the song.

Oh I know that it'll end up having it's usual Resi trademarks in the end, but as I loved Silent Hill/Outlast it really drew me in seeing Resi even looking like them for a second.

Scarlett. 17-08-2016 12:31 PM

Apparently that trailer is actually a tape we find in the game, not actually the main gameplay (thank god, I was worried there was gonna be quite a bit of hiding). They also posted this on the official facebook.

I can't be bothered to care about this until we see some real gameplay. We're five months away from release and we haven't even seen gameplay that's indicative of the final product.

Scarlett. 17-08-2016 12:38 PM

In a way I like that they're not showing everything just yet, I imagine we'll get something more sizable at TGS. Since it's Tokyo and all.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 24-01-2017 08:22 PM

i'm loving this so far

Scarlett. 25-01-2017 02:12 AM

I finished it (got it Monday morn), best Resi in years.

Is it GOOD, though? Because best in years wouldn't be hard... 6 was pretty bad. Though to be fair I enjoyed 5, and LOVED 4, but neither were actually scary at all... Leon was a ninja and Chris a boulder-punching tank, neither ever felt at any risk .

We're going to start playing it tonight (wife is a big horror fan).

Scarlett. 25-01-2017 09:06 PM

It is good, lol. Feels like a proper classic Resident Evil.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 25-01-2017 09:08 PM

i'm only a couple of hours in and i would say it's way better than 5 (i never even bothered with 6) it's genuinely scary also

it reminds me of outlast a lot

Tom4784 25-01-2017 09:10 PM

I was tempted earlier but I hate first person horror games.

It's massively different from ones such as Outlast and Amnesia, there's not really much hiding involved.

This, I didn't enjoy the demo either.

Although I seem to remember thinking it was creepy 1st time, I replayed about a week ago and it did nada for me

Scarlett. 26-01-2017 11:36 AM

The demo isn't really a full representation of the game, the puzzles are all very Resident Evil-ish, the game feels like a full on proper classic Resident Evil, while feeling fresh enough to be good on its own merits.

Big fan of the first 4, so that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 31-01-2017 12:37 AM

Spoiler:

everything seems to go a bit ridiculous after zoe creates the serum :(

like up until then the tone is just perfect, everything feels genuinely scary/deeply disturbing but then right after the serum is made that ridiculous boss fight with jack starts and it's just a ****ing mess lmao like if anything it's more tongue-in-cheek hilarious than scary

i've only played for about 20 mins after killing him for the (3rd?) time but i don't like the ship at all :( idk it just doesn't feel scary to me whereas the house was amazing

also i don't like how they are explaining the story now (or they seem to be) of exactly what happened for the family to end up like that/the origin of the kids, like it feels as though it's taking away from the mystery aspect of the game up until that point and i get a feeling it's gonna be way more action-orientated from here on out which sucks :(

user104658 02-02-2017 01:08 PM

We started playing a couple of nights ago. Haven't gotten that far yet but we were both thinking this;

Has anyone tried this game on Playstation VR?? I don't have it but honest to god I have absolutely **** myself a few times already and I don't scare all that easily. I can only imagine that playing this on VR would result in some sort of horrendous PTSD :umm2:.
