Xtra Factor 2016 - Matt Edmondson & Rylan to host (and it's basically gonna be BOTS)

As the host of Radio 1’s Weekend Breakfast Show since 2011, funny man Matt has interviewed some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry and with his unique, irreverent style, he has cemented his credentials hosting shows across Radio 1, T4, ITV2 and Channel 4.

Matt is also no stranger to The X Factor, as a long time fan of the show and presenter of an online spin off show, The Fan Factor, in 2011.

Speaking of his new role, Matt joked: "I am unbelievably excited about joining The Xtra Factor this year, not least of all because on my first day Louis Walsh walked into my dressing room topless, unannounced. I regard this as the definition of ‘living the dream’”.

The brand new live format will commence from the beginning of the series, giving fans of The X Factor the chance to react to the night’s episode immediately after the audience has seen it.

The show will feature live interviews with contestants who appeared on the audition show, plus reactions from celebrity guests and interaction with fans on social media. There will also be the usual mix of exclusive unseen auditions, backstage gossip and unprecedented access to The X Factor judges.

Matt is currently filming behind-the-scenes during the Judge auditions. Further information about the show will be announced shortly. Stay tuned...

I'm actually quite impressed with that signing, I really like Matt! Plus the live format doesn't sound too bad, so this should be good.

Live format sounds really good and they've done well to get Matt on board, he's quite engaging and will suit well presenting.

The live bit sounds good. Chatting about the show as it's airing rather than the pointless tailing Dermot around during the auditions stages.

But Matt Edmondson? Is there a reason they always get cheesy presenters who belong on CBBC? :laugh:

It's obvious Rylan is joining him Phillip and holly let it out of the bag on this morning and Rylan didn't deny it! I don't want him to do it though I want Rochelle to return, Rochelle and Matt would work well together

I just don't think they will seem right together! I think they still need a female co host

I thought BOTS was bad enough, now he has about 5 shows to host. The more jobs hes given the more my dislike grows

Rylan would be wise to leave BOTS tbh. With this, his chat show, his This Morning segment an ITV2 panel show pilot on the way and his book signing tour he's got a lot going on outside of it.

BOTS is his most stable job I don't think he'll leave it. This Morning is stable but he doesn't have much of a big part in it. Xtra Factor changes its hosts yearly and Up Late With Rylan/ITV2 panel show can be axed at any point.

I think this is a good move

If they're doing double episode weekends for X Factor again and Xtra's live both nights, he'll be working seven nights a week in August/September

To be fair I'm actually pretty happy for him I think he'll do a decent job providing the whole series isn't him saying at the start of every sentence "when I was on the show" I love the fact he will be working with Nicole again

Rylan soon to announce he'll be co-hosting the queens speech?

See, I've liked Rylan on everything he's done other than BOTS. I haven't really thought he's the right fit for it on his own and I much preferred it when he was co-hosting with AJ as I felt they balanced each other out. However, I think he's the perfect fit for Xtra Factor. He's back on the show where he got his recognition and Xtra Factor knows what it is - a light hearted late night spin-off. I think that pairing him with Matt is also a good idea, much like I wrote before, he needs a co-host to strike the balance in personality.

If this works well and Simon doesn't press the panic button again then this could turn out to be a great career move for Rylan - not only will he have Simon Cowell on side but it could lead on to more opportunities with ITV. If it succeeds, he'd be wise to leave Channel 5 behind.
