Wales are in the Semi Finals of Euro 2016

This is a massive achievement. Well done to Wales.

Crimson Dynamo 02-07-2016 09:32 AM

its astounding. Shows you that football is a team game and what a difference a good manager can make

AnnieK 02-07-2016 09:37 AM

Brilliant game last night....completely different team to England, these boys play with heart, determination, pride for their country and spirit.

MTVN 02-07-2016 09:40 AM

They've had a piss easy draw though tbf

You mean just like England did? :idc:

Wales have shown England exactly what is needed at tournament finals. They've delivered good football and only looked shaky in one match unlike England who struggled to score in every match.

MTVN 02-07-2016 09:45 AM

If England had the path to the semis that Wales did we would have walked it no problem

If they play like that for the last two rounds they could win the whole thing.

We couldn't beat Iceland so like hell would we have beat Belgium.

MTVN 02-07-2016 09:59 AM

Of course Wales have done well but they will get dicked when they come up against a proper team as England showed in the groups

GiRTh 02-07-2016 09:59 AM

Wales got the easy half of the draw but England could have had that if they'd topped the group by not arrogantly p*ssing about with the lne up and played their best 11 in each game. :idc:

And Iceland was the easiest team to play out of all 16, we piss over teams like that on a regular basis normally yet on the day San Marino looked more likely to score than we did.

Raph 02-07-2016 10:08 AM

I'm so so so happy almost cried after the game

Agree. IF England had topped the group they'd have played Northern Ireland who have beaten England in the past too.

Anyway, how has this become a thread about England failings. We should be celebrating the Welsh success.

yep, the mighty Iceland are a formidable force, nearly on the same level as Gibraltar :hee:

Cherie 02-07-2016 05:18 PM

It was a terrific match, can't imagine what it must have been like for the supporters, well done Wales rooting for you to go all the way now

GiRTh 04-07-2016 06:23 PM

Theres definitely a lack of enthusiasm for the Welsh achievement on the forum. Imagine if it had been England in the semis? I dread to think how some Fm's would be gloating.

Crimson Dynamo 04-07-2016 06:29 PM

england were and are one of the weakest teams in the euros

Them russia and ukraine were the worst

I would put england (in english league terms) perhaps like a Charlton or Rotherham. A semi decent basement Championship team

They have zero chance of ever achieving what Wales have done

not in out lifetimes that is for sure

In terms of home teams at the mo they are the worst home nation

I would say

Wales
Scotland/NI
Ireland

England

GiRTh 04-07-2016 07:40 PM

Its gonna be interesting to see who gets the England job and the level of arrogance they bring to the job. This team performance is without a doubt worse than the world cup two year ago. Yet going in many people thought England actually stood a chance. Where does that level of arrogance and delusion come from?

LukeB 04-07-2016 07:40 PM

However, Scotland aren't much better to be fair. They're certainly not better than Rep of Ireland at the moment anyway.

Scotland are the weakest as they can't even qualify for these domestic tournaments.:joker:

Imo England needs a Manager that actually picks the players on form and not on brand names that play for big teams but are playing absolutely terrible, or are not fully fit.

The only player that won me over because he actually tried in these Euros was Lallana, and Kyle Walker was brilliant as expected.

If England had've put in Danny Simpson, Wes Morgan, Marc Albrighton, Danny Drinkwater, Andy Carroll, Mark Noble, and Michail Antonio instead of Jordan Henderson, Jack Wilshere, James Milner, and Nathaniel Clyne we might've done better.

GiRTh 04-07-2016 08:53 PM

Teams like Wales, Iceland etc who have done well have a core of no more than 15 players, if that, who play every game. Players who come into the side know they are only there for the one game or until the regular comes back. England cant do that. A player like Vardy scores ten goal in consecutive games and the clamor for him to play for England becomes too much. For me, here in lies one of the problems. England are not Germany who have 20-25+ players that they can choose from all of them know the system and all are good enough.

England either need a manager who will select his core squad of say 15 and stick to it or its time for quotas in the Premier league. A league where there are 5+ home players playing every week; then England may get the 25+ players that the media and some of the fans seem to think they already have. Currently England performances in these tournaments are getting worse not better.

Mystic Mock 04-07-2016 11:21 PM

Tbh Girth we're no champions by any means, but I know that we could reach the Quarters and even the Semi-Finals with the players that we've got going into these competitions.

How we're not doing better is a disgrace, and not beating Iceland is an even bigger disgrace.

I agree England should be reaching the Quarters or Semis.

Great to see what Giggs thinks is wrong. I totally agree with his comment on the 'Washbag culture' and that some of the things England do wrong would not happen at top clubs. I dont think one man can solve the problem but it need the Premier league and the FA to work with each other but I doubt anything substantial will be done to change the problems.
