Its a very rowdy PM`s questions today,I think they are showing off to Shilpa LOL. Sometimes one gets the feeling that the MPs have just come in from the Westminster Bar. It will be interesting to see if Shilpa comments
on the loudness of it all.She looked great infront of Big Ben and she is doing a press conference with Keith Vaz later.

EDIT; Shilpa is about to be on Andrew Neal`s program on BBC2

EDIT; Interview cancelled owing to Shilpa`s meeting with
The PM.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has swapped one famously rowdy house for another by visiting the Commons to watch Prime Minister's Question Time.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner, whose treatment by fellow contestants caused a serious race row, was greeted by frenetic scenes at the Houses of Parliament.

Watch her visit on Sky News Online
Accompanied by her mother, she was driven to the Commons entrance and met Labour MP Keith Vaz.

He had tabled a motion complaining about the Channel 4 show that was signed by nearly 90 MPs.

Mr Vaz's nine-year-old daughter Anjali placed a traditional Indian garland around the two guests.

They then posed for pictures in front of a large media scrum of reporters from the UK and India.

The actress and Keith Vaz Shilpa said she was "honoured" to be visiting Parliament, where she will also meet Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell and Commons Leader Jack Straw.

It is also possible she may meet Tony Blair, ahead of this week's exchange between him and Tory leader David Cameron across the Commons.

Shilpa won 63% of the show's final public vote after alleged racist bullying prompted a record number of complaints - more than 40,000 - to the media watchdog Ofcom.

The star, who has denied her fellow housemates were racist, has since seen her profile in this country rise exponentially.

Before entering the Commons, she said: "To see how so much respect has been bestowed upon me has truly been an honour."

She added that if she had the chance to speak to Mr Blair she would "thank him for the solidarity that he has shown me and my country".

GiRTh 07-02-2007 01:03 PM

To be honest, not really. What with the international incident and all, she's hot property.

Mrluvaluva 07-02-2007 01:18 PM

I know she's hot property, but she's all over the news everyday. Personally, I am getting bored of it.

GiRTh 07-02-2007 01:33 PM

She becoming a bit of a photo op for all publicity *****s. Except Jade, of course.

Big Brother's Shilpa thanks Blair

Big Brother's Shilpa Shetty has thanked Tony Blair for his support during a meeting at the Houses of Parliament

The Bollywood actress watched prime minister's questions in the Commons before meeting Mr Blair afterwards and declaring: "He was very sweet."

She was invited by Labour MP Keith Vaz, who was among those who criticised the TV show after Ms Shetty's treatment by other contestants caused a race row.

She said she had thanked the PM for his support "to me and my country".

Her visit attracted widespread media attention - she was greeted on arrival at Parliament by a media scrum, including 23 reporters from India.

'An honour'

That arrival was broadcast live on television and the scale of media interest led to a planned press conference having to be moved from a room inside Parliament, to the steps of the MPs' office building, Portcullis House, just across the road in Westminster.

"To see how so much respect has been bestowed upon me has truly been an honour," she said.

The Commons chef prepared a special dessert in her honour "Shilpa's delight" and she met both Mr Blair and Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell briefly after prime minister's questions.

On Mr Blair she said: "He was very very kind and said he was very sad to see what I had had to go through in there [the Big Brother house]."

She was also very fond of Ms Jowell, although she stressed to reporters that she was not "politically inclined".

The actress won Celebrity Big Brother, following clashes with housemates Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd who were accused of bullying and racism - something all three denied.

'Oppose racism'

Media regulator Ofcom received more than 40,000 complaints from viewers.

And the row reached both the House of Commons and India, where chancellor Gordon Brown found media coverage of his attempt to boost bilateral relations overshadowed by the programme's fall-out.

When Mr Blair was asked about the row in the Commons, he admitted he had not seen the programme, but added: "Of course, I would agree entirely with the principle that we should oppose racism in all its forms."

Ms Shetty has said she does not believe her fellow contestants were being racist, but that their remarks had stemmed from jealousy, or a "lack of education".

Asked how prime minister's questions compared to life in the Big Brother House, she replied: "They are way more polite in there and they get to leave and know what's going on in the world outside."
