Riddles

Post all your riddles in here, i love them.

Here is one i [surprisingly] didn't get. It's pretty easy though so only the dim ones won't get it.

Picture a square. Each with 4 sides, as they do. All the sides are the same length. A man walks around the square and it takes him 1 hour and 20 minutes to walk down each side except for one which took him 80 minutes. Why did it take him 1 hour and 20 mins to walk the other 3 but only 80 minutes for the other one?

He walks at the same speed, he doesn't magically develop wings nor does he get on a bus etc, etc.

(this one isn't as good to explain in writing, better when you draw it)

hmm....

Emilee 07-02-2007 05:32 PM

He farted and it blew him along the 1 side faster.

The_Hitman 07-02-2007 05:35 PM

Does he walk backwards?

~Kizwiz~ 07-02-2007 05:36 PM

What goes on four legs in the morning, on two legs at noon, and on three legs in the evening?

For Legend's original one:

Because 80 minutes is the same as 1 hour and 20 minutes?

A man. It's greek saying or something. Oedipus I think. A man crawls as a baby, walks as a man and walks with a stick when old. The morning, noon and evening are metaphors for ages.

Am I right?

I've heard of this one before, so I won't say the answer
It's pretty hard, I think.

Bells 07-02-2007 06:02 PM

I think you're right GRiT, I remember hearing that particular riddle before.

Am I right?
Yes its the Riddle of the Sphinx

In Greek mythology, the Sphinx sat outside of Thebes and asked this riddle of all travelers who passed by. If the traveler failed to solve the riddle, then the Sphinx killed him/her. And if the traveler answered the riddle correctly, then the Sphinx would destroy herself.
Oedipus solved the riddle, and the Sphinx destroyed herself.

I studied this at school...... very inserting play actually. Its where Freud got his Oedipus theory

Corkie 07-02-2007 06:15 PM

Don't know if you've this one but...

A woman shoots her husband.
Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes.
Finally, she hangs him.
But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together.
How can this be?

Bells 07-02-2007 06:16 PM

I've pretty much heard all of them or got them so far, except the yellow and smells like paint one!

I'm normally crap at riddles as well..

So the yellow and smells like paint one.. yellow paint??

Because she photoshoots him? As in.. takes a picture. Then takes it to the developing room, holds the picture under water and hangs it.

Then they go for dinner.

I'm probably talking rubbish though... but it was worth a go!

She took a picture of him then developed the photo

Most would have probably heard this, and if you have - don't say the secret of it  It's not so much a riddle....

Scenario...At her mother's funeral, a woman meets a guy and falls in love with him instantly. However, she never got his name, number or any other information about him. A few days later, the woman kills her sister.

Question...Why did she kill her sister?
