How thin is too thin?

i see nothing nice in seeing the likes of Victoria Beckham looking like a stick insect. she looks like something from a concentration camp. awful and very sad.
and what a bad impression it gives to the teens.

Sophii3x 11-02-2007 07:27 PM

I hate Victoria Beckhams figure. How can David be happy with that? It's not normal.

I read in a paper that a teenage girl got obsessed with her own weight after seeing a picture of Victoria Beckham and died of anorexia a few years later.

I also think that Nicole Richie and Keira Knitley really need to put some weight on.

secrets 11-02-2007 07:30 PM

its no wonder that Beckham has an eye for other girls cause Victoria must look dreadful naked.
her legs have no shape at all.

xGemmax 11-02-2007 07:33 PM

I think she looks good. The only thing that isn't good is that she hasnt got any hips. But i am jealous of her legs. Is that wrong?

no i dont think its wrong

Princess 11-02-2007 07:40 PM

People like Nicole Richie are too skinny. Where you can see their bones. Thats just wrong. Although some people are really just naturally skinny.

xGemmax 11-02-2007 07:43 PM

I think Nicole Richie didnt look so good for a while, but now she looks perfect, she has gained about 10pounds. She looks much better than she did before she lost the weight. I just like the skinny look i spose, but i agree too skinny doesn't look good

~Kizwiz~ 11-02-2007 07:45 PM

The whole size 0 thing thats going on at the moment is just shocking. Look at Nicole Richie, Stick Insect Beckham, Terri Hatcher, Mary Kate O, Laura Skin Boyle they all suffer from whats known as lolly pop syndrome where their heads look far to big for their body.

What type of example are we setting for young girls that thin is beautiful?

Princess 11-02-2007 07:45 PM

Yeah she does look much better now she has put some weight on. I'm glad she finally went and got help!

My opinion is that thin is beautiful. At least in my eyes. But i agree at the moment Mary Kate is looking too skinny

Red Moon 11-02-2007 07:48 PM

I don't know why a girl would want to be so thin by choice, it can't because they look better. To me they look ill.

I like my girls to be normal sized, much more fun to play with.

Siouxsie 11-02-2007 07:59 PM

yep something to get hold of Im in between i would say a normal figure

In that case skagged up junkie's half-way through an overdose are beautiful according to your theory.

As far as im concerned, on a superficial level the most attractive thing is to be healthy. Even if a girl is carrying a bit of weight, as long as she is in good health, chances are id find her attractive.

Skinny is unnattractive. Almost as bad as really fat.

rex3 11-02-2007 08:07 PM

thank god your back

edit: that wasn't sarcasm

Emilee 11-02-2007 08:35 PM

I think anyone size 4 and under is too thin.

Victoria beckham is deffinatly too thin she is seeting a bad example.

Isn't size 4 an 8? :puzzled:

Emilee 11-02-2007 08:45 PM

What country are you from?
Here the usuall sizes are 8 10 12 14 16 etcc....
But petite sizes are 6, and now they do size 4. Not sure about size 2.
And size 0, but ive never seen that in shops.

Emilee 11-02-2007 08:46 PM

Oh ive just noticed your from ireland. Now i have no idea what your sizes are.

Princess 11-02-2007 08:46 PM

Ooh I thought you were talking about American sizes! I have never seen a UK size 4. An American size 4 is a UK size 8. A size 0 would be size 4 over here.

Emilee 11-02-2007 08:49 PM

Oh right. yer i know what you mean now lol

Lauren 12-02-2007 01:03 AM

People are naturally skinny and healthy, but it's beyond healthy when there's people like Victoria Beckham (Who we have seen from the past is not NATURALLY that thin) - it's endangering her health.

I disagree with Gemma that "thin is beautiful" because what about people that are normal sizes? The fact they're not explicitly thin means that they're not beautiful?

Ruth 12-02-2007 07:53 AM

Too thin is when it is endangering your health. Some people are naturally quite skinny, but perfectly healthy. But if people are making themselves thinner and thinner, then it becomes dangerous. The obsession with dieting and 'size 0' syndrome is getting quite out of hand. None of these skinny celebs look that attractive to me. I asked some of the guys I work with who they would prefer out of Victoria Beckham and Nigella Lawson. They all said Nigella.

ttw 12-02-2007 08:43 AM

I was watching some thing on More 4 the other day about some woman who decided to try and get to a size 0 (equivalent to UK 4) and she was a UK 12, in something like 2 months.

She went to the top athlete trainers or doctors, something like that, and they did all these tests on her, and they said she was healthy and fit.

After weeks of training and dieting (she was now about a 10, maybe abit smaller) she went to a Harley Street clinic that saw celebs etc, they said she was medically obese!

And as she said herself, if that was someone going in there already thinking they were over weight, imagine what it is going to do to them being told they are OBESE!?

lily. 12-02-2007 09:53 AM

My opinion on this matter is:

No matter what size you are... if you are healthy, then it's fine. Some people are naturally like rakes. I'm not one of these people.

When I was a kid, up til about age 13, me and my friends were all about the same size. Just regular kids. Then we reached that age, and their wastes went in a bit and they developed tiny bumps for boobs. I was an early developer. I went from looking like a wee girl to suddently having hips and 34C boobs. That was my bra size at age 14.

Now, I'm 33, and some of my friends still look like they did when they were 13. But, that doesn't mean they are too thin. It's just how they are built. I know that now, but I was extremely self-conscious as a teenager, because I was really the only one who had curves (which I perceived to be FAT). Again, I look back at photographs, and I was certainly NOT fat. But, the fascination with being stick-thin is not a new thing. The media are partly responsible, but to be honest there's more negativity in the media about being thin nowadays than there was 10 or 15 years ago. So, hopefully it's going to improve.

To answer the topic title.. "Too Thin" is when you are malnourished by deliberately undereating.

Sophii3x 12-02-2007 10:11 AM

I think celebs like Kate Moss and Mischa Barton are naturally skinny

But Victoria Beckham, Nicole Richie and Keira Knightley just arent

easypeasy 12-02-2007 12:08 PM

anything under a size 10 is too boyish for me.........size 12-16 is lovely.

GlitterEyes 12-02-2007 11:27 PM

I think wanting to be thin and wanting to be healthy are too different things. People can still be healthy and eat alot of different foods. Models which battle it out to be come "size zero" are very stupid. People who promote this size 0 thing as a fashion are pathetic. Size 0 is not a healthy size to be nor does being thinner make you a prettier/better person.

andyman 04-09-2008 03:51 AM

Blame the media and the fashion world... They wont change tho because more women want to be thin and that fuels the fashion world which goes through the media... to the eyes of a young girl and the trend never ends.

no that's glib and simplistic mate..
break the cycle by building young girls confidence and self worth so they are immune to trends and that kind of desperate need for acceptance. Of course most girls are fashion conscious but there is something missing in a girl that will go to such length to be liked or loved. Maybe someone closer should be providing that instead of faceless fashion conscious strangers.

Princess 04-09-2008 04:18 AM

Whats fashion consiciuos got to do with being skinny? Models may been skinner but it doesn't make clothes any more pretty because of whose wearing them.

Skinny is too skinny when a person is unnaturally unskinny.

It won't work in todays world.... unless things change from both sides top to bottom but i doubt the fashion world/media will change but a true mix of women shapes and sizes in magazines etc would help... But there is no money in that, thin=money! If the big players won't change then many women will always fall victim to the lies.

Because they were insecure in themselves, and they don't feel they had enough control in their life and they only thing they could control was what they ate. Bullies are a problem as well, one bad comment can do havoc to someone ones self-esteem.

So your talking about just a small factor of the skinny issue... The image of a super skinny model will do more damage to a young mind, that changes their views of how normal women should look and do look apart from them. That then leads to other problems and its not just young teens because even older women fall for the lies... Money!!! Huge factor. Women wanting to be thin to feel better about themselfs is worse with what you have said... The body image victim is on the rise... Size zero for adult women????

ange7 04-09-2008 06:06 AM

yeah I'm with on this andyman ... it's the media PLUS the low self-esteem.... the self-esteem and pride for themselves is something they ought to get from those closest to them. Princess the way I see the media/advertising etc is that want to sell you something whether you need it or not ...so they do their best to tell you why you NEED it ie "your fat and ugly etc". It's called "creating a demand" ...AD people do it all the time. Strong and confident girls would be immune to that BS ...most girls and women are not ... my problem is that some take it that next step. They believe that they look ugly with ANY fat so they waste away. Even if they don't die they have all manner of physical problems for the rest of their lives.

Anyway I think all 3 of us are pretty much agreeing with each other anyway :laugh:....and for me and andy that's a first hehe

Rory 04-09-2008 06:26 AM

Honestly, all the images shown in today's media on magazines and such are all too thin.

A girl setting a goal to be as skinny as those models who have obviously been photoshopped is impossible and will lead them to anorexia/bulemia/eating disorders as well as possibly combining it with extreme exercise.

Thin is how a girl naturally is. They should still eat healthy, but not to the extent as to putting their own health in jeopardy for appearances.

Jackie 04-09-2008 08:50 AM

Anything under size 8 is not acceptable anything over that is an okay weight.

~Kizwiz~ 04-09-2008 09:23 AM

Its partly to do with media and partly the way women think in m opinion. You open a magazine and Wham! ll the models are stick thin. All the celebs are either way to skinny or dropping weight in a bid to become sexy.

As girls grow up they are bombarded with the notion that thin is beautiful. Most people can be their own judge of whats best for them but for some it has to be skinny or nothing and I believe that the media and celebs play some part in that obsession.

It doesnt help the fact that the trash mags like heat and such follow celebs around and analyse their weight and diss them if they gain a few Ibs and congratulate when they go super skinny
