"I remember where I was on 9/11"

Everyone says they remember where they were/what they were doing when they heard/saw the events of 9/11 15 years ago today.

So, what were you doing?

I was in my first week of Secondary School and me and my friend got off the school bus early to go back to our Junior School as our Year 6 class photographs had arrived late (after the Summer hols) and we needed to collect them.

I remember in the background whilst we were there talking to our old teacher that another teacher was on the phone saying "yeah and they've flown them into the skyscrapers!!". Didn't twig at the time me and my friend just kind of looked at each other strange.

Then I got home and saw exactly what was going on on TV. Awful.

I would've just started Year 2

I was at home on maternity leave with my daughter who was just around 6 months old. She was actually letting me sleep in for once...so I was awoken by my mother in law on the phone freaking out and telling me to turn on the TV to see what was happening... I was very groggy and confused for a few minutes I remember... and then just shocked and shook. Spent the day glued to the TV and watching the events unfold.

Ithinkiloveyoutoo 11-09-2016 12:30 AM

Was getting ready and I thought it was a trailer for a new movie

Shaun 11-09-2016 12:36 AM

We must've been let out of school early for some reason because I'm sure I managed to get home and watch the second tower collapse but that would've been 3:28pm our time... we didn't usually finish school 'til 3:50pm

But I do remember hearing about it on the radio on the way home and then watching it.

Rob! 11-09-2016 12:37 AM

The bizarre thing was that we'd had a school trip to Washington earlier in the year and I'd actually been in the Pentagon. I was just leaving school and my history teacher was talking about it as I passed him. It was 3:30 so I didn't give a ****e about anything that was happening other than me getting home so I didn't really pay attention. I walked in and the first thing my mum said to me was "Have you seen the news??" I sat down and watched it all completely dumbfounded that evil like that existed.

Maru 11-09-2016 12:58 AM

I'll copy and paste what I put in the chat thread...

I was in the school web design club in high school when it happened... was on an IRC channel I frequented and we had TV's in the classroom so saw the whole thing live... kinda freaked out for friends in NY who were freaking out about not being able to get ahold of loved ones who were in that area. The US hasn't been the same since...

Spent the rest of the day listening to the intercom sitting in class doing absolutely nothing because so many parents were coming to pick up their kids non-stop.

:(

..it was really difficult at school with primary age children to know how much to talk about it, you know...in terms of respect and in assembly etc and you must have been very young as well, Jordan...

I was at the front door letting a friend in when my dad shouted out, we rushed in to see what the fuss was about.
My friend thought it was an accident..dad and I didn't, the second plane confirmed it.

I was only one years old so I don't remember it at all.

Jamie89 11-09-2016 11:52 AM

I remember being at school and all the teachers suddenly starting acting really strange and me and my friends knew there was something up but didn't know what, and then going home and seeing it on TV. I'm not sure if I saw the plane hit live or if it was a replay but I remember seeing it when I walked through the door and having an overwhelming feeling of dread and then just sitting in front of the TV for hours with my family.

Jason. 11-09-2016 12:25 PM

I don't actually remember the day itself that well but I remember it happened just as I started secondary school and we were all so scared and everybody couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the week.

_Tom_ 11-09-2016 12:29 PM

I actually don't remember 9/11...I was only 8 at the time mind. I remember 7/7 though, I came home from school and my mum had it on the TV.

I was in the car on the way back to work when it come on the radio, I thought it was a joke for a minute when they announced the second tower had been hit :(

BigSister 11-09-2016 05:49 PM

I was coming home from school and my mum told me about it and I was worried because my aunty uncle gran and cousins had gone to Florida that day and I must not have realised the severity because I remember saying oh they wont diverte them its not near New York then when I got home and saw the planes crashing in the towers I started to realise the severity and became frightened for everyone.

Paula D 12-09-2016 04:09 PM

I feel really old compared to some on here! I was on my way back to work after lunch and half heard something about it on the radio but actually thought it was the plot of a new movie or something. Got back to work and everyone was just standing in reception staring at the television. Very surreal afternoon, I don't think we got one phone call all day after it happened.

Working for an American Internet marketing company in London. I recall lots of news sites went down as this was early Internet but I got on to the guardian. We spent the afternoon In the boardroom watching TV in horror. Many people knew people in the towers and there was screaming and tears. We also had a big US airline as a client so that caused drama too.
